Al Groh contends you can’t judge a defense – his defense, anyway – in the context of one horrendous collapse. No, grasshopper, you’ve to step back, take a deep breath and appreciate the ebb and flow of an entire season. Or something like that.
“Those answers only come through a review of the full body of work,” Groh said. “A full body of work is a full 12-game season, so that answer is yet to come.”
Serenity now.
Al can be mellow because he knows the secret to defense: “All of these plays, no matter what your scheme is, obviously the play never ends until the player is tackled…” Well, except when a player scores untouched on a 25-yard run in overtime to win the game.
‘…so that answer is yet to come”.
The answer is likely to be, “Look, my guys practise all week against this high school offensive scheme with Div. III level recruits and its killing us”.

Funny. That’s what he said when he was HC at UVA, too.
Let’s all just sit patiently and wait for him to recite some poetry, shall we?

Full body of work? I see your Al Groh and raise you a 2005 through 2009 Willie Martinez. That ought to be a pretty full body of work. Let’s see how loyal Paul the Johnson and Tech’s administration are.

Reminds me of the line in Moneyball. Billy Beane tells David Justice, “I’m not paying you $7M a year, the Yankees are paying half of your contract. Think about that, they’re willing to pay you $3.5M to play against them.” That’s about the same thing that Virginia thinks about Al Groh’s full body of work.

GT just needs to keep their beloved CPJ and Groh. The whole body of work is the next 20 years or so of being 0-20 against UGA.

Clearly the problem is he believes he is a baseball coach. He sounds like Yogi Berra (the play never ends untilt he tackle) and he is talking about his defense’s batting average. Maybe he would be a good hitting instructor?
