For Auburn, it’s the cherry on top of the sundae.

When you’re en route to your first winless conference season in many a moon, what could make things any worse?

Well, any time you hear those four magic words, “Yahoo! Sports has learned”

According to multiple sources, NCAA investigators have spent weeks looking into potential improprieties involving Auburn recruits, players, coaches, representatives of the school’s athletic interests and third parties. Assistant coaches Trooper Taylor and Curtis Luper have been scrutinized by the NCAA, sources said. Taylor is the assistant head coach and wide receivers coach, while Luper coaches running backs and is the recruiting coordinator.

Both Taylor and Luper were taken off the road recruiting several weeks ago amid the NCAA probe, sources said.

But, there is a silver lining, Tigers fans.

The NCAA probe is believed to be more widespread than just Robinson, but is not believed to revisit the 2010 allegations involving former star quarterback Cam Newton – allegations Chizik and the school vigorously combated at the time. Auburn went on to win the national title that year after Newton was cleared by the NCAA late in the season.

I bet Finebaum has a major league woodie right now.

  3. Just finished lunch with Attorney’s Wife, who is a Georgia Peach born and raised in NEWNAN. Inside skinny is “We’re hoping he will show some class and resign. But he is not a Georgia Boy so there is no hope of that.” She went to school with Lewis and his first wife. Grammar school..no less…So, I trust her. As Lewis would.

      • Well, he had a bad day at my CC in B’ham and insulted my friends by driving his Golf Cart to peoples doors and saying,”Hey, I am Lewis Grizzard and I need a drink..can you help a brother out.” He was wasted, I wish that had never happened. I still have good memories from other good times at the Techwood Grill, before he let that demon Alcohol take control of his life.

“Taylor was a finalist this season for national Assistant Coach of the Year honors from the American Football Coaches Association”

You’re just gonna let that go, Senator?

My concern about this is that they’ll finally get around to levying the “death penalty” on Auburn before we’ve had a chance to get on the winning side of the all-time W-L ledger. Hopefully they’ll at least delay that until after we kick the sh_t out of them next year, then, Hell, have at it boys ‘n’ girls!

I’m pretty sure we’ve got them on total points, and the series is tied right now, right? Either way, happy thanksgiving, Auburn!

Aw, c’mon, give the guy a chance. They’ve only had him 4 years, and he did win a frikkin national title. That should be good for at least 5-6 more years, in my book. Heck, I’ll even chip in a few bucks to keep him around a while, ’cause I’m just a nice guy that way. Perhaps we could get a petition going here in GTP?

I’m thinking that the Aubies, Cheatsit in particular, brought this on themselves with the asshole behavior about the Newton affair. The Cheatas had that covered up tight and they knew it. So they insulted the NCAA with their attitude of impunity. The NCAA realized that they couldn’t make the Newton payoff stick so they cleared Auburn of that and then went sub-rosa on the MFs, digging up stuff while Auburn had its guard down. Nicely played NCAA–for once.

  13. As i contemplate the Chizek affair the whole thing makes me think of the Richt haters. This man is exactly what the Coach Richt haters want. He won the Big one. He did it quickly and without concern for ethics or the long term consequences but he won the Big one , He beat their rivals and he did what it took to win the Big one . Maybe some of these Richt doubters might want to get Chizek in the UGA program because he is a proven commodity that can do what they seem to think Richt can’t. They will not admit it now but if we lose to Bama they be right back in the Fire Richt mode and Chizek has won the Big One. God football fans are fickle bunch.

I’m sure most of you guys older than 30 know that this isn’t the first time Auburn has been nailed. It’s happened many times over their history, going back 50-60 or more years. Cheating is part of the Auburn culture and it’s what they feel they must do to stay competitive, and I stress must. Unlike Florida State who has access to more talent than most any school not named Florida, Auburn is caught in a strange place – because given their location, they are a little sister to two schools, Alabama and Georgia. And the cream of the crop for both states is typically drawn to the primary schools so Auburn has had to “cheat” in various ways to entice the star athletes to select them. As far as I can tell, this is done in two ways:

    (1) they simply offer the high school recruit whatever is necessary, whether it be money, women, automobiles, clothes, job for daddy (if they have one) or mama.
    (2) they do the same for the JUCO player (Newton, Fairley, Rudy Johnson, etc, etc, etc) or the cast-offs from other schools such as Kenny Irons who began his college career at South Carolina, was booted for various “academic” reasons and found a comfortable home at (you guessed it) Auburn for a whopping ONE year. Sound familiar?

So history is simply repeating itself at a school that is known for their propensity to cheat, bend the rules, break the rules, completely disintegrate the rules, and so on. I don’t think we’ll be hearing from Auburn for some time although they will be back one day – a long time from now.
