Richt blows a golden opportunity.

I don’t know about you, but if I got a call that started, “son, right now I’m on the operating table having hip-replacement surgery, but I wanted to give you a call to let you know how much you mean to our program…”, I’d commit on the spot.

    That’s hilarious, Senator! Unfortunately I wouldn’t be very surprised to hear how this surgery is just another example of how Richt isn’t fully committed to football.

    Nick Saban wouldn’t have had surgery three days before signing day! Doesn’t Richt have a commitment to the “process”? What WAS he thinking?

      I think he was thinking about getting his body ready for spring practice. Maybe he already has an idea as to who’s commiting or not. Give the guy some credit. He’s turned the program around. There will be plenty of talent in Athens to make another run at the SEC. CMR has forgotten more about this process than anyone on this blog will ever know.

    Mark Richt is in a no win situation. I much prefer that he is feeling good for Spring Practice than having to suck up to an 18 year old from his hospital room.

      Couldn’t agree more. They either want to be a Dawg or not; and CMR probably already knows who will be in Athens this summer

    Believe me, I had both of mine replaced in 2011 in one operation. You know when it needs to be done and it can’t wait. The pain is that bad. Mine was total replacement, don’t know about CMR.

      Details, details. I read the same thing. So there was no benefit to delaying further, b/c he can’t contact recruits anyway…who’da thunk CMR might actually think ahead like that…i for one…

    And the hospital is next door to the TV studio where most of the recruits will announce their decisions. Coincidence? I think not.

    CMR has had this hip problem for 25 years, and he decides to have this surgery 5 days before the big recruiting day, I can’t believe this s!!t! This is crazy!

    Anyone care to take bets that he will be upright for some of the recruiting? I’ve got my first one coming up soon (both knees and hips will eventually be replaced) and am told the healing exercises are done best in a pool. I will go from the hosp to home after 1 day.

    It isn’t that you can’t take small time pain medications (the good stuff will hook you inside a week) prior to the operation, but you never get full relief and that costs you tons of sleep and the required healing (body inactivity) can go to other problems quickly. The main reason for the operation is to alleviate daily pain while allowing you to be ambulatory again. A walk of 20 yds feels like I just finished running the mile nonstop and uphill. It is exhausting , the legs tremble and the ache is almost intolerable. Pot usage accentuates pain for me, but I smoke before going to bed in order to sleep through the pain for about 3-4 hrs. Then it starts again just from getting up to go to the bathroom.

    While Richt will get good pain management for rehab, you never eradicate the pain until it heals and the operation is successful, however, one can take a pain pill, get on crutches and attend gatherings within two days of the operation.
