You gotta love Paul Myerberg’s lede in his look at preseason #14 (!) Florida:
Florida has scored 647 points in coach Will Muschamp’s first two seasons, scoring 331 points in 2011 and 344 points in 2012 for an overall average of 25.92 points per game. Florida ranked eighth in the SEC in scoring in 2011 and 10th a year ago, though the latter didn’t stop the Gators from reaching a BCS bowl, the program’s seventh.
But no Florida teams since 1988-89 had ever scored fewer points during a two-year span – and in Gainesville, 1988-89 are known more popularly as “the two years prior to Steve Spurrier’s arrival.”
I’m sure Gator fans would agree, if any of ’em would admit to remembering that era. Or maybe they just refer to that time as “B.S.” (before Spurrier).

I know.everyone talks about Boom’s defenses but what is our record against his defenses? Have we ever lost to one?

We’ve beaten his Gators twice in a row, although those defenses played well.
Before that, there was the Moreno/Stafford dumptrucking of Auburn in the original Blackout, and before that, there was the three-score win at Auburn in 2006. (Although that wasn’t all his defense’s fault.)
He was also LSU’s DC (read: Did What Saban Said) against us in 2003 and 2004. With mixed results, from holding us to 10 in Baton Rouge in 2003 to the disaster in Sanford a year later. I think David Greene just threw another TD pass.

Fair and balanced effort here, since AM isn’t 100% responsible for W/Ls, or even total offensive numbers, when we evaluate Driskell we have to admit he doesn’t have the greatest supporting cast. The receivers at FU don’t exactly strike terror in your hearts, and haven’t in a while. Same with the RBs. So how would he be with weapons like Aaron has to work with? Not taking away from AM, or trying to make Jeffrey something he isn’t, but let’s face it, Florida after Tebow has been much more about the defense.

He still is slow to pull the trigger because he is indecisive. That’s why a QB as mobile as he is gets sacked so many times. He has a good arm, but not terribly accurate, and his best weapon is the ability to leave the pocket and run around. He is Tebow without the pretty deep ball or the fullback size for short-yardage runs. Would he be better at this point in his career if he hadn’t been coached by three different offensive coordinators? Probably, but the reports are saying the game is slowing down for him, so maybe this will be his breakout year…[checks WR/TE/RB depth chart]… er, maybe not.

Practice makes perfect….and AM has plenty of that. He will play in the NFL and go at about the 4th or 5th round. He is the best kind of QB. We will be singing his praises for years to come. DGD

Off topic, but how tall is Kirk Herbstreit? I only ask because everyone likes to point to Murray’s height as one of the reasons he won’t be drafted early, but on a segment on ESPN yesterday, he was the same height as Herbie.

I don’t know how tall Kirk is but it appears he has no respect for AM as he didn’t include him in his top 5 picks for best quarterback. I say that based on the WWL’s article that was online before the Herbie Awards last night.

Oh my Herbie is 6′. He is one of the best QB’s out of Ohio State. When, I look at him up close and personal…..I cannot speak. He is breathtaking and especially if he is amused by you and your state of ; “cat got your tongue.” He has a beautiful laugh and smile. Hey Mac, Still got your Herbie mask?

Good point about the turnover at OC. As you note, he is a pretty decent runner, the real questions seem to about his arm. Reminds me of Conner Shaw, good athlete but never going to be elite. Shaw has better numbers but had Lattimore at RB and some decent receivers.

“In 5 games against top-12 BCS opponents, the Gators’ average score was 24.8-15.4. UF limited those opponents to 259.6 ypg and forced 15 turnovers. Only one of those 5 opponents gained over 300 yards of offense against Florida (TAMU – 334, its lowest output of the season).”
