Strength in numbers

Hey, did you hear the one about Georgia intending to rotate eight, count ’em, eight, offensive linemen in a big game?

No, seriously.

Friend, Georgia’s offensive line coach, said he will head into the game with eight players he feels comfortable using, and he plans on using them. Those eight include all five of last year’s starters (left tackle Kenarious Gates, left guard Dallas Lee, center David Andrews, right guard Chris Burnette and right tackle Theus) along with Houston, Mark Beard and Watts Dantzler.

Friend said he fully plans to use all eight players at Clemson. It won’t be a case of waiting for an injury or a blown assignment from one of the first five.

“No, we’ll play guys,” Friend said. “Those eight we feel like they can play, and we’ll play them,” Friend said, then started laughing: “Obviously if somebody’s not getting the job done it may mean you get off your schedule a little bit. But we don’t have any problem with playing those guys.”

Well, that’s certainly something we’ve not been accustomed to seeing lately.

Though nobody will say it outright, I wonder how much of that is driven by Burnette’s status.  That being said, if Friend truly has the luxury of quality depth, it’s very smart to bring Burnette, who at 100% is Georgia’s best lineman, along carefully as he continues to heal.

And how amazing will the Kolton Houston story get?  Could he wind up in **gasp** Verne crush territory?

  1. Wait, who is this? What happened to reporting on Georgia football? What does “strength in numbers” mean? I only know the term, “patchwork”.

  2. What fresh hell is this?

It would be nice if Houston’s first game would be between the hedges, but so be it

I like this quote. It sounds like he is keeping the pressure on the starters to give 100% or hang out on the sidelines.

sUGArdaddy and Joy, I look for Houston to start week 2 at home against the lamecocks. The place will be in a frenzy, especially if we get by Clemson. Imagine the roar from the UGA faithful when Kolton Houston is announced over the loud speaker as a starter. If Munson were still with us he would say something like, “The stadium just rocked with the announcement of KH; aftershocks can be felt from Savannah all the way to Brunswick. My God; it’s about time we heard that!”

What happened to Ward? Thought he was listed as a starter at one point.

  7. I was listening to 92.9 last night and they asked Anthony Dasher how Georgia handed the ‘thin offensive line’ situation during the scrimmages. Dash corrected them, but obviously they haven’t been paying attention or it was just habit to ask about this situation with the Bulldogs.

Do you like 92.9? I have not listened to them enough to have a remotely honest assessment, but the times I have had it on I did not like it. Im not being snarky at all, just curious.

I’ve tried on several occasions and it’s consistently awful.

92.9 is horrible, the morning after jason heyward got plunked in the face, the morning show topic was “who is the all time villian in the nfl?”
they don’t have a clue about anything relevant in sports.

      • Its vanilla. I only listen to it when I can’t get the am stations otp. They also got a Florida guy there. On top of this, they will be broadcasting all the bama games this year. Perfect station from you if you are a frontrunner or cowboys fan…yea same thing I know.

Now we just need to maintain this depth, 3 or 4 of those 8 are seniors so we need 4 or 5 in this class to maintain a good stable players.
