Maybe they need the frequent flyer miles.

Now here’s a pointless exercise.

They’re not the AP.  They’re not ranking teams for the heck of it.  Their job is to seed a four-team tourney and they’re not needed for that until the regular season concludes.

The only thing weekly rankings will do is provide endless fodder for ESPN and the like and cause more noise in the system.  Which, come to think about it, is a good strategy if you’re trying to stir up public dissatisfaction with the process, dissatisfaction that only has one cure…

How much should the American public be allowed to know about the use of voting irregularities and other forms of cruelty practiced by the Selection Committee in the build up to the Final Four? Everything.

As long as they’re disclosing the weekly ‘rankings’, couldn’t they squeeze a few million extra out of ESPN?

Whatever. I imagine there will be wailing and nashing of teeth every time the rankings are disclosed. The “committee” is going to try to “balance” the rankings to keep every conference and every part of America placated….I don’t know this but I believe it. It’s going to be a hoot..I just hope we’re not the ones gnashing our teeth..but “Dawgradation” always seems to rear it’s ugly head. We’re already noticing “SECgradation” from the assholes who are lining up to grind their axes. I know a lot of you feel like this is a good fix and I really hope you are right and I’m wrong. I hope I’m wrong. I hope.

How long before Emmert or his replacement sell the rights to the selection committee to be televised?

The playoff is not an NCAA event so Emmert cannot sell it. The outfit than puts the playoff on can sell it and will if it gets the notion.

I agree, publishing weekly rankings would be unnecessary and seems too cumbersome. I also think having a specific, numeric ranked order is unnecessary early on. The committee should not get drawn into the “who is #1” silliness when their objective is to get the four most deserving teams into the playoff. Perhaps a “ten teams getting the most consideration based on current status” in mid-October and updated every two weeks would be best. By not getting number specific they wouldn’t get trapped into a commitment prematurely.
