SEC Power Poll, Week 13

It’s getting late in the season, and that means some teams are due to start fading.  One school’s fall is another school’s rise, though.

  1. Alabama.  The Iron Bowl is all that stands in the way of another trip to the SECCG.  I don’t expect any clock management jokes this year.
  2. Mississippi State.  Powerhouse SEC teams mop the floor with Vanderbilt.  Way to pass that test, fellas.
  3. Georgia.  Some of Georgia’s wins (Arkansas, Missouri) look even stronger now.  Unfortunately, that isn’t the case for the two losses.
  4. Auburn.  One last chance to redeem the season, coming up.
  5. Missouri.  Missouri is laughing at the concept of game control.
  6. Arkansas.  The best last place team in America?
  7. Mississippi.  Man, what’s happened to these guys?
  8. LSU.  Florida has scored more points on the season than LSU.  And in one less game, to boot.
  9. Texas A&M.  Spent the week taking questions about a bowl game they won’t play in.
  10. South Carolina.  It only took the ‘Cocks eleven games to become bowl eligible.
  11. Florida.  Jeff Driskel, you’ll always have Eastern Kentucky.
  12. Tennessee.  I’m sorry, what were you saying about the Volunteers?
  13. Kentucky.  All you have to do to become bowl eligible, ‘Cats, is beat Louisville on the road.  Er, have a nice Christmas.
  14. Vanderbilt.  The bad dream is almost over… except for the part about helping Tennessee become bowl eligible.

Ole Miss was never as good as everyone thought after the Alabama game. That’s what happened to them. Their one dimensional offense caught up with them, because Wallace is not a good enough QB to carry it. That and their defense had a bad game against Auburn.

Losing their best player Treadwell took a lot out of their offense.

I agree with you on that BR. Ole Miss only won the Bama game because a DB made a tremendous play with an INT in the endzone that stole that game away from Bama as the Tide was going in for the winning score. Very similar to the end of the aTm-Bama game in 2012.

That, missed filed goals by Alabama (Saban’s kryptonite) and the fumble on the kickoff after they tied it at 17. A lot of stuff broke right for them to win that game.

In addition to needing Missouri to lose and either Alabama or Miss State to lose this weekend (so that if we end up SEC champs no SEC team will have less than 2 losses), having Florida and South Carolina beat FSU and Clemson would be huge too.

I think Florida beating FSU is good as it would show that they’ve really improved these past few weeks and would make our loss look a little better. SCar was early enough in the season where I’d rather have Clemson win to make sure our wins over ranked teams looks better.

Its a close call on Clemson or S.Carolina but I think we want SC to win because it will look better for the conference to sweep the ACC in the end of year in state rivalries. If all goes well we’ll have beaten 9-3 Ga Tech and either 11-2 Alabama or Miss State to end the year so we’ll be okay in the quality wins department. And if all goes really well Ga Tech will then win the ACC. I’d rather be able to say our losses came away from home against 7-4 Florida and 7-5 S.Carolina than 6-5 and 6-6. Our best chance to get in to the playoff is to win out and have no one in the SEC with less than two losses and us be the champ. For that to happen we need the SEC to look as strong as possible.

Well thought out – agree with this. I am a bit less worried about our quality wins if we win out than our quality losses.

I disagree with your comment that Georgia’s 2 losses don’t look stronger. Both South Carolina and FU are bowl eligible. If South Carolina beats Clemson and wins its bowl game the Cocks get to 7 regular season wins. Same for FU, although against FSU that is less likely (remember FU’s opener against a cupcake was rained out so the Gator record is really 1 win short of what it should be). Put both in minor bowls against ACC or Big 10 teams and they can still salvage respectable seasons.

I will be pulling hard for Florida this weekend. FSU makes me want to puke., even moreso than the Gators.

SOMEONE HAS TO BEAT THE NOLES. IT JUST HAS TO HAPPEN.
Might as well cheer for Coach Boom on his way out to do it.
Hey, the Zooker pulled it off, right?

Wouldn’t it be funny if Boom beat UT, UGA and FSU in the same season and got fired.

          Probably not to Muschamp.

It bothers me a little that Muschamp has brought them team respectability(as measured against the trash dump that Crier left) and the school/Muschamp are exhibiting class during this change. They will save those recruits they now have and will pile in an unexpected good class in Feb. They are recovering from their redneckitis while seeking a class label.

Nah. Redneckitis is a relapsing disease with those classless wonders.

Boom has no pressure on him so he can let it hang with the coaching, FSU better not overlook UF right now

Since Honey Boo Wallace and Prescott were the SEC’s best QB’s how can anyone whine about the job Mason has done for UGA? How many teams would like to have someone that can deliver the way he has? Nice job Hutson, don’t pay attention to the trolls and match Shock as going one for one in the opportunity for SEC rings/titles.

10 straight SEC wins on the road for Missouri. Explain that. Well, UT’s pitiful performance Saturday night. Give Vandy a good chance to beat the Vols.
Teams that went down hill in a hurry … Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee, and worst of all Ole Miss. How did the voters keep those guys in the top 10 so long. 3 of those 4 teams have a good chance to add to their lost column this week.
Keith Marshall. I’d play him and burn the medical redshirt. Time to find out if he can play. A lot of games, quarters, and plays have come and gone without him. Is there some high school seniors out there who could possibly play next year and have 4 years of eligiblity. Think so. Not sure if Marshall has it to play like he did before injury.
Looks more and more like Missouri gets the other Alabama school this year in the Dome. Hard to watch Mizzou – UT game after the opening MIzzou drive and score. Think most had it figured out by then that Mizzou would take the game. Made some of more pissed about the Florida game.
Which brings us to this. Will Bobo’s game calling be there Saturday. Or will it be one of those games where he checks out after awhile. And maybe he will not overwork Chubb in the 1st quarter like at Jax.
