Malcolm Mitchell, you may have heard, has written a children’s book, entitled “The Magician’s Hat”. You know what was harder than writing the book?
C’mon, you know.
… In particular, the children’s book he authored finally gets released for sale on Saturday. “The Magician’s Hat” will be available at the UGA Bookstore and on Mitchell’s website, readwithmalcolm.com, as well as other places.
It will retail for just under $16, and Mitchell has gone through an exhausting clearinghouse process with UGA and the NCAA to ensure that everything has been done in compliance with NCAA rules.
“That’s been the longest process,” Mitchell said. “I was actually just talking to somebody from the NCAA in the building today. I just told her thank you and I really appreciated the timely response that they’ve given me. There’s been a lot of back-and-forth. There’s a lot of things I can do and I can’t do and a lot of other things that other people can’t do that I can’t control.
“So there are some restrictions. But overall the book will be released, weill be sold, and I think it’s the first time the NCAA has waivered such things that will generate revenue and allow you to promote your own product. I appreciate everything they’ve done and for UGA allowing me to do it.”
Honestly, there’s a part of me that’s surprised it’s seeing the light of day. But good on ‘ya for something, NCAA.
And between Chris Conley and Mitchell, maybe Georgia needs to start referring to itself as “Media Production U”.

It’s actually is on UGA if the school will claim some sort of rights to a book done during the person’s school days. However since this book likely was inspired by his membership in that book club it is legally outside UGA or NCAA arena.

Glad for Malcom Mitchell, but I’m not going to go so far as to thank the NCAA for ‘permitting’ a fundamental right. We shouldn’t be celebrating one person escaping the prison, we should be tearing down the walls.

The NCAA should be ecstatic over the Malcolm Mitchell story.
They should not have put up ANY roadblocks for the sale of this book and I hope he makes a ton of money from it.

Todd Gurley was writing a children’s book last year too. It was a very short story (two words) and it was hand printed on a football helmet instead of paper.

He sure did write a book, at least he can be a good example in a book of how to sign stuff safely and not trust those signature hounds looking to make a few bucks at the back of student athletes.

I wonder what will happen at the first book signing, and, by the way, doing the right thing once doesn’t change the fact that FIFA is the only sports organization more corrupt than the NCAA.

Upon hearing this news, Auburn tried to find a way to work through this loophole, but none of their players know what a book is.
Media U / Tailback U…Southern Cal is getting very jealous.
For Senior Day, how great would it be for every fan in Sanford to hold up a copy of MM’s book when he gets introduced.

If 90,000 fans hold up MM’s book on national TV I guarantee the NCAA will come after us. Motto of the NCAA: “Everybody gets rich except the guys who actually produce the product.” Man, that’s so f’ed up.

Seriously? It’s the NCAA, we’re Georgia. I’ll have a nagging feeling all season that they will do a 180 at the worst possible time. The part that scares me the most -“and a lot of other things that other people can’t do that I can’t control.” Does that mean ‘ if you sign a book and someone sells it online for profit, then you’re suspended for four games’?

My 8 year old worships these ground these guys walk on…hell, she had a hat ceremony with her mom and I the other night to announce Lo Carter was her new favorite player this year. Primarily because tacos, of course, but she also said she likes the way he makes QBs heads bounce off the ground. She bawled when Todd Gurley choked up in an interview on draft night. So yeah, there’s a magic in a football playing hero having enough love for the kiddos to do something like this that can’t be underestimated. Go Dawgs indeed.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the Green and Gurley experiences, it’s that everyone should practice safe autographing. It appears Mitchell is packing Sharpie protection.
