“I really wanted to impose my will against Vanderbilt.”

Don’t let your concern over quarterback play cause you to overlook Jordan Jenkins’ monster day:  a game-high 11 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss and two sacks.  He played his ass off in a game his team needed him to.

Other than the oddity of playing the backups waaaaay to early in the 4th, the D was pretty damn good. The rushing D is stout.

Gotta get everyone reps, otherwise we will be bitching in big games when a guy needs a break why their backup has seen the field for like 5 plays.

It was great seeing the entire Wolfpack impose their will on a spotty O-Line. It’s been a long time since our defense felt like it would win the game for us. Vandy got 2 field goals on plays extended by bad calls or non-calls by the refs and then got a touchdown with our backups on the field. Overall great performance by the D.

Most fun since 2004 ( Jarvis was close, but this is more fun )

Jenkins was an absolute beast, was seemingly unstoppable sometimes. Was also very pleased with Bellamy. We’ve heard he was right behind the other 3 (Floyd still counts as an OLB, right?) and he showed that today.

There is plenty to celebrate on D today, BUT must be tempered by the fact that we won’t face a worse offense this year.

  6. Bellamy, Floyd and Jenkins were bad men today. Sterling Bailey and Chris Mayes may have played their best games in a Georgia uniform today.

The targeting call on Zo was complete BS. Once again, the worst rule in college football.

What bothers me most about targeting is the moving target. You might be trying to avoid the illegal hit, but if a ball carrier moves at the very end you might not be able to avoid it.

      • It’s a terrible rule for that reason. What’s a guy who is 6’6″ supposed to do? He didn’t lead with his head. He wrapped the QB properly.

Gary Danielson basically argued that. You had a 6’6″ guy hit a 6’4″ guy, so yes his hat is going to hit the other guys hat unless he drops his shoulder. He also wrapped up, which as GD pointed out again, is a defining part of the rule. Think it is not targeting if you wrap up. The rule was made to get rid of guys doing shoulder chargers and spears into defenseless players.

This defense is really good. If the middle is indeed as good as it looked today and the secondary works out some kinks, it could be great.

Tennessee blew their 14 point lead and lost in overtime, and that’s also great.

Today I saw a well coached, aggressive D. Special teams that can break the game open. An offense that really struggled but fought back hard to redeem themselves. And the same old ultra-conservative HC who made poor decisions in what should have been a much easier win.

With a running back with 189 yards against what was widely billed as a good defense.

I get what you are saying Westy and FWIW I agree, except about the STs. Part of the STs are in really good shape. The punt and kick-off coverage and punt and kick-off return teams are great with downfield coverage, but I assume you saw the Vandy punter run for a first down on a play where the snap was fumbled. All they had to do was keep contain and the Dawgs get the ball deep in Vandy territory. The rusher (Natrez) took a bad angle inside and the punter ran outside for the first down. That’s the result of bad coaching. Morgan still can’t consistently kick the kick-off into the end zone and he misses damn near as many FGs as he makes. Morgan is going to lose a game for the Dawgs this season, just wait and see. He already lost last year’s Georgia-South Carolina game. The problem with STs isn’t over. It is just masked by using first team players on the coverage teams. Georgia will never have first rate STs until the Dawgs have an ST coordinator. CMR is too stubborn to do that so the problem will persist seemingly as long as CMR is the HC.

Umm, this is the same Morgan who went like 20 straight on FGs at one point. He had a terrible freshman campaign, he literally hit the goal post on FGs like 6-7 times. Then went on an insane streak during sophomore/Junior years. Not sure what happened this offseason to him.

      • I always ask the same question about the call for a ST coordinator. Who do you fire to have a full-time ST coach for 4 players on the field (kicker, punter, snapper, holder)? Richt must not feel comfortable taking on that role or believes his special teams by committee approach works.

On the bobble, Patrick took an angle to attempt to block the kick, and the punter didn’t panic and ran. We were trying to set up a return, so everyone had turned to set up the wall. If Patrick takes the angle to stop the run, the punter kicks it. Would that have been better? Yes, but that’s a decision made in the heat of the moment by a true freshman who probably hasn’t played a lot of special teams.

I had some problems with our coaching..especially offense…then asked myself: ” Are we holding back so the OBC won’t pick up on our game plans?” I thought we were very basic and that slowed the whold offense..like reining in a good horse. Hope I’m right! Didn’t it feel good to watch the Vols and Cocks go down hard…and Auburn??? #6??:? J Johnson for Heisman??? Get real.

Don’t make mistakes, hand the ball off to Chubb and Co. Worked so far for a 2 – 0 start. Concern has been whether we had a defense to compliment this basic strategy. We just might. The rest of the SECe looks as weak as we thought.

Bitch if it makes you happy I guess, but we are who we thought we’d be at this point.

Not that concerned about QB – yet. It hasn’t been great, but it hasn’t beaten us yet, either. You couldn’t always say that about Matt Stafford.

But yeah, the D is a bright spot. It’s going to win us some games barring catastrophic injuries.

Arkansas lost to a lesser school, Auburn needed overtime to win, SC lost to Kentucky, FSU tied at halftime to USF, UF only beat ECU by 7.

I think we have less to bitch about than others in the conference.

Most everyone here agreed Auburn was overrated (def not that much though), FSU has a habit of playing sloppy and then winning good enough, the other 3 schools were not considered much. Arky was ranked because they usually play other West teams hard.

It is early in the season and issues are correctable, but crappy QB play + crappy FG kicking is a deadly combo. It is bad enough to end drives taking 3 instead of 7, and pretty much damning to end with 0 instead of 7.

I’m real glad we got some defensive backs who can catch passes. I’m real glad we got Nick Chubb. I’m real glad we weren’t playing anybody better than Vandy.

I am really, really glad I am not a Tennessee fan, to get left hanging one more time.

I may have reservations about my quarterback, but Slo Hand did not throw it to the wrong guy with the game, and a chance to turn my program from its downward spiral, on the line. So there’s that.

I am not real glad we got about a week to work on some pretty glaring weaknesses before we entertain South Carolina, but then I am real glad I am not a South Carolina fan with about a week to work on some pretty glaring weaknesses before going to Athens.

I have never thought this Georgia team was going to be one for the ages, and it would appear that’s the safe bet if I want to keep my sanity (what there is of it).

I feel like the kid at the zoo who is making faces at the gorilla, from the safe side of the bars of the gorilla’s cage. I just hope the gorilla does not figure out how to pick the lock.

But hey, I am real glad we are two and o, even if I ain’t real sure why.

Boomer Sooner. Kharma is a real bitch, ain’t she Vol fans?

Jenkins will be scheduled to hold a class at Butts-Mehre on imposing will and playing with passion not only for the rest of team but for the coaching staff. In particular the low energy head coach and his inept OC. Following Jenkins lecture will be guest speaker UF head coach McElwain. McElwain has some energy and does not settle for lack luster play.

Think the hand writing is on the wall. There are a lot of over paid coaches in the SEC East based on Saturday’s play across the board.
Time for the alums and ADs to start leaning on coaching performances after the play of many of those teams.

How does OU get a walk-on QB like that and we get a grad from UVA. And UVA was seconds from beating ND. No wonder Lambert was not going to play from them but from CMR and his NFL guru OC. CMR can pick them. At least his transfer had no picks because, hell, none of his damn throws were catchable by anyone on the field. How does a Vandy have more offense look than a UGA. Probably because the offense can not move the ball and the defense goes in a shell to tighten the game

OU’s QB isn’t a walk on. He used to start for Texas Tech and transferred after not jiving with TT coaching staff. UVA played ND close because Malik Zaire (ND starting QB) broke his ankle in the game and was lost for the year. Try again.
