Maybe Richt really is trolling us.

This is a rather curious thing to say.

Richt was asked just one question during his allotted 10-minute window on the weekly call and it was about whether the Bulldogs had settled yet on a starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Kentucky. He said that Greyson Lambert and Brice Ramsey are “repping most” with the No. 1 offense. He said that Bauta, who started against the Gators’ last week, “has gotten some work as well. We haven’t ruled that out.”

Then he offered this intriguing aside without prompting:

“Part of last week (here he pauses to laugh) was just the fact that some of the guys, I was just curious, if there was any secrets anymore, you know? And guys, somehow things always slip out through social media or whatever it is. So I was just curious if everybody could keep it under their hat.”

Wait, what?

I don’t think that was meant to be taken seriously, but I also think Richt’s seriously overestimating the fan base’s sense of humor these days.   Win a few games first  – hell, score some points first – and maybe we’ll appreciate the wisecracks more.

Have to agree with you Senator. Very curious thing to say at any time but especially now. Started your third string QB in a critical game for funzies? Just to see if the boys could keep a secret? Wow. I always thought the point of choosing a QB was to put the team in the best position to win the game. A very critical game.

No. The Georgia Way doesn’t work like that.

It’s about love, moral goodness and hype videos.

If it’s not a joke, it’s enough to make me miss Donnan, who yes, trotted out the wishbone vs UT in 1999, but at least had the sense to scrap it when it was clear it wasn’t working.

I remember that fiasco well. Bill Curry was the color guy on that game. After the option got stuffed for a loss a couple of times, he said “Teams that run ‘a little bit of option’ end up looking exactly like what you just saw.” That game is when I knew Donnan was at the beginning of the end. Took another year and a half.

When Quincy threw 5 int’s at USC in early 2K, I got that same feeling.

When George Godsey ran through that defense (all went to the NFL), you could all but hear taps being played.

  2. That was what I meant last night. Obviously it was meant as a joke. But obviously Richt is detached to the point of being tone deaf right now. A big chunk of your fan base is pissed off and another big chunk just doesn’t care anymore, so yeah let’s joke about how the last game was just about who keeps a secret better than who.

And Bauta is running safety with the scouts?

    • His choice, not something the coaches asked for. The kid wants to be on the field, helping. Don’t see what’s wrong about that.

It is interesting from the point that they are obviously not worried about him getting hurt, meaning there may not be any plan for him to be under center again this year which makes me wonder why he took every snap in Jax. Maybe I’m overthinking this.

Nothing is wrong with it as long as you never need your third string QB the rest of the year. I mean, what are the odds of us ever losing a first and second string player at a position right? Can’t happen. So anyway who cares if Bauta, the guy they trotted out there last Saturday, gets injured running as a safety with the scouts. I am sure the quality looks he is giving the offense is totally worth the injury risk and time away from work at his scholarship position. This is getting comedic.

He’s not good enough to play the role of Patrick Towles on the scout team in practice, but he IS good enough to play wire-to-wire in our most important game of the year.

THIS is the logic were dealing with.

I love that the kid wants to play. I think if UGA was 7-1 and fresh off a florida win, everyone would be eating this stuff up.

But we arent. He was just the starting QB in the cocktail party and now he is scout team safety. Throw in that our 2nd string QB is our punter and we havent scored a TD since Spurrier retired, it makes for a pretty tone deaf statement.

When you are standing in front of a giant train wreck of your making, everything you say is going to sound pretty fucking stupid.

Coaches and players are making that pretty clear right now. None of them have the common sense to know that they should shut their mouth, start working harder and show up to play on saturday. Everything they could say, is the wrong thing to say.

It was time to make Bauta and his family happy with some game action.

Jere and Greg, you are paying 4 million dollars a year for a pee-wee coach.

See, last week was a test-run to see if the team could keep a secret. The plan was to bring in Aaron Murray and put him in a Lambert jersey for Auburn and Tech. Unfortunately, the news about Bauta leaked, illustrating that there was no way for the team to keep a secret, so the planned ‘Murray Maneuver’ had to be scrapped.

Bauta is a warrior. He will give all he’s got. Why would Richt say something like that? How do you think that makes Bauta feel?

I may just be misreading it, but it seems like to me he’s sending a message to some of his players who can’t keep their mouths/Facebook/texts/Twitter/etc. shut. Social media is the root of all first-world problems.

    • Even if that were the case, if we were just gonna run the same offense and not put in any packages to take advantage of Bauta’s mobility….what was the point of keeping it secret? Honestly, it would have been better to publicize if from the beginning and make UF at least worried about new packages, so maybe they would waste their time preparing for something that wasn’t even gonna be there. Instead, they spent their whole time preparing for our regular offense, which is exactly what they faced.

There is absolutely nothing about the way all of this has been handled that makes anyone look competent.

And I swear some of the things Richt says just make him appear detached. After seeing Chubb’s injury, passing out on the sideline, etc, Richt’s comment is that hopefully he won’t need surgery – WHAT??? Why would you even mention that as a possibility? After McKenzie’s hamstring injury – an injury that always takes 3-4 weeks to heal, Richt made the comment expecting him to travel to UT and hopefully play – again WHAT???

Richt is full of hope about a lot of things. That’s seems about it – hope. Nothing in the way of answers.

And I’m coming across as way more negative than I want to be, I’m very appreciative for what Richt has done overall in his time at UGA.

Social media is the least of this team’s issues. Richt appears to have his fingers in his ears. It was surely meant as a joke, but no one is laughing after that pitiful display in Jax.

It does make sense that CMR would send a message about keeping secrets in the most public way possible.

Senator, what do you think of Richt’s last 7 years? looks like it has become a trend and no amount of money would have prevented his squib quick for example. it is a dire situation for him and some of stuff he is doing is out of desperation? Coaches rarely change over the years and Goff will never turn into Urban Meyer and Goff will be Goff. No amount of money and investment in the program will change that. So it is safe to say that what you have seen in Richt over the last 7 or so years is what you will get from Richt in the future. I am not in favor of giving him another year or two because it simply prolongs the agony knowing that he is a lame duck. No assistant coaches will come to coach for him and not many recruits would want to play for him. it just worsen the already dire situation.

    “Dude, Where’s My Truck?”

This episode of ‘Who’s in the F-150 Today’ is loosely based on Jimmy Williamson’s tracking of Mark’s pickup truck and unstapled reports from tunnel rats inside the run BMDC fortifications.

In the cab, Jere still rides shotgun. Today Jere rides fully equipped locked and loaded with a Rossi Youth .22 LR/.410 Break-Open Rifle/Shotgun Combo from his squirrel hunting days as a ute.

Stuck in the middle is Fran with his checkbook the pages of which are to be used by Jere to give to Greg for building the armor-plated non-truncated IPF in which three-point turns will no longer be required.

Chained to the bed of the pickup is Jeremy.

Mark, Jere and Fran are hoping to contain Jeremy from gaining inside access to the cab despite his proficient Edward Scissorhands’ metal cutting skillz using the full array of his hydraulic rescue tools.

Behind the truck is CBS who with the assistance of a rope line from the rear trailer hitch is jogging double-time to keep up with the rest of the krewe. The twisted rope a/k/a laid rope looks like a spiral. It’s made of three strands (polypropylene wire) twisted together, hence the name. It is being used today by Mark for training purposes to help CBS know the rifling pattern of an actual spiral pass.

Fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. This dramatic action-packed and incredibly moving tracking exercise is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

This whole circus with Tarkenton and Richt is unbelievable.
Comments like that and Bauta playing safety on the scout team to stay in shape.
    Richt is juvenile these days.
I can not understand why he is making these kind of statements.
He is not serious about the program anymore.
Why in hell doesn’t he just leave.
15 years is long enough, and since 2009 it has been terrible.
But the current AD and President being blind sided by Tarkenton, this is what your get.
Drop the game to UK, and let us hear him talk like that again.
Always said CMR talks too much. He thinks he is sooo cool.
And his teams get hammered by UT, Bama, LSU, and UF.
Needs to get over himself, and let the alums have a championship team on consistent basis.

CMR hasn’t sounded inept or tone deaf in interviews before (at least that I can remember). Is he actually letting the pressure get to him, or is he intentionally helping lay the groundwork to walk away? Maybe this is just a one time flub, but it was out of character.
