Shorter Verbatim Matt Hayes: “As much as it pains me to admit this perfectly imperfect sport must move closer to the look and feel of the cold, antiseptic NFL, it’s the only way to save it from itself.”
In other words, we have to destroy college football to save it.
There are times when I wonder if we deserve being able to enjoy things.
I ruefully await the day when the attendees are called ‘The Studio Audience’.

HS, it feels that way now. Nothing about the game experience itself is for the fans in the stadium unless you call Find UGA or karaoke presented by State Farm for the fans. TV timeouts in particular are killing the flow of the game and making the games last much longer than they should.

Given the ineptness of the NCAA, I don’t think having half of the D1 teams split off to a new organization under the leadership of a commissioner. Only chance I see to have consistent standards for bad behavior and solving the major issues with officiating. Using the label “NFL” takes away from a very good idea.

I think officiating should be governed by an independent organization. The conferences have too much at stake to be trusted with managing the officials. That Penn Wagers kept a lead referee spot with the SEC is the main evidence of it.

When you’re getting hammered on all sides in antitrust cases, it’s really dumb to take a step that would reduce the independence of the individual conferences.

One of the basic tenets of the cold, antiseptic NFL is that to get better on the field you have to fire the coach.
