Today, in great moments in journalism

Okay, it may not be Woodward and Bernstein, but, honestly, you’ve gotta give Marc Weiszer a major tip of the cap for using an open records request to get the details on Kirby Smart’s day lobbying the state legislature to change the open records law.  I love it.

  1. “I hope it brings us a national championship …”

That should go in the Hall of Shame for stupid comments made by politicians.

    • You could at least spin that statement by showing the economic impact a NC would bring the state and the positive impact it would have on the school (See Alabama).

Plus…we supplied Hank Johnson and Cynthia McKinney–surely our Hall is already full.

Remember when Hank was worried that Guam would tip over? I don’t think the level of stupidity in those two statements is comparable.

I hope that the state and national media just absolutely BOMBARD Georgia with open records requests about every little thing from here on out. I hope that they find a way to make the open records clerks feel every bit as “taxed” as they did before with the old law despite the 90 days.

    • Oooohhh–That will show’em!

90 days is an eternity when it to something as perishable as news. Its kind of like Fred Thompson’s Japanese Lettuce inspection analogy in Days of Thunder. By the time the school gets around to answering–it won’t have any value to the folks asking.

Also–I’d submit that the relationship between UGA and the AJC has been almost as antagonistic as the ACC police chief and the football team. Both love to show up the football team. Why should the school be forthcoming with a publication bent on showing the school in the worst possible light for the last 30+ years. Hell…I’d set all the responses to be emailed out 1 minute before the 90 day deadline.

Mark better be finding the UGA equivalent of section 37F. You tease the bull you get the horns.

Schmitz or Badley would never have thought of that one.
