First week CFB spreads…

are out, via the William Hill book.  Georgia still sits as a 3.5 favorite over North Carolina.

Other lines of interest:

  • Vanderbilt is favored at home over South Carolina.  Welcome to the Will Muschamp era, ‘Cocks!
  • The Clemson-Auburn spread has narrowed slightly, to +8.  I’m not really sure why.
  • Oklahoma is favored by ten over everyone’s mid-majors darling, Houston.
  • FSU is favored by six over Ole Miss.  Not sure how I feel about that.
  • And Notre Dame is only a four-point favorite over Texas.

Thoughts?

Vanderbilt over SC? Did SOS ruin the program that much?

Auburn and Clemson ought to have to play each other every year.

Call it the Mirror Image bowl.

Notre Dame is the most routinely and consistently over-rated program of the last 20 years.

I’m consistently baffled by the Clemson-Auburn spread. Gus is no closer to finding a quarterback than he was a year ago, and they return one of the SEC’s worst passing defenses with a defensive coordinator who was fired from the team they’re playing for giving up 70 to West Virginia.

I guess Auburn gamblers are just blindly optimistic?

It is just the annual “Auburn has solved all its problems” line of thinking. Say what you will, those guys have the best SIDept in the business. They turned a qb who can throw it thru a wall….IF he even hits the wall into a Heisman candidate.

Houston spread seems like easy money. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Houston win outright, especially playing “at home”.

Not betting any of them before late August but the Clemson looks like a very tempting play, and that freshman Q at Texas has better be all they thought he was coming out of spring. I see how everyone is enamored with Houston, and that is a game to watch on that Saturday but I wouldn’t throw too much dirt on the Sooners. Since Texas’ swoon the past few years, OU is the only Big12/10 team to play legit defense….and they have all summer to prepare. I am always cautious with openers, too many unknowns, but my largest football bet ever was the 2005 opener against Boise. 🙂

I still blame those star war uniforms for that loss.

Wrong game, the one I heavied up on was when we ran them out of the stadium in Athens. Those unis at the Dome were really bad, we should never have agreed to let Nike make us look that bad. As for the game, felt we were going to win until Ogletree went down. That was a very good, experienced team Boise had that year, they were a little better than us at that point of the season. Not as bad a loss as many Dawg fans think.

Even bet on Texas-ND. I’ll take Houston and the 10 pts.
