Lesson learned, eh?
Baylor has kept intact its assistant coaching staff after removing coach Art Briles despite an investigation’s multiple findings that football coaches had inappropriate conduct and influence in school assault investigations…
But the 13-page “Finding of Fact” prepared for Baylor by Philadelphia law firm Pepper Hamilton includes five references to coaches or football staff engaging in behavior that stifled school and criminal investigations into serious allegations, including:
• Meeting directly with a complainant or their parent and not reporting the alleged misconduct.
• Abdicating their duties under federal protections for student welfare, health and safety by not reporting incidents to the university or suspending players without explanation and helping them transfer.
• Seeking to maintain “internal control” over discipline of players and diverting cases from the student conduct or criminal proceedings.
Those instances helped reinforce “an overall perception that football was above the rules, and that there was no culture of accountability for misconduct,” the summary stated.
Maybe Art Briles was a real control freak. Maybe the staff has taken the Nuremburg defense. As long as everyone left means well, I’m sure it’ll work out.

I’d ask if the have a sense of decency, but I already know the answer.

Premise: People will forget Baylor as soon as the next scandal hits or the media moves in to the Olympics and the Presidential race.
I think Baylor truly believes that. Or, there’s just a complete leadership vacuum and no one can make a decision on anything.

I’m convinced that most organizations – whether companies, schools, churches, etc. – just kind of run by force of habit and have no real leadership going on whatsoever.

They already had an interim coach from their own staff who replaced Briles. Why did they go outside to get a new “Interim Coach” if everything was ok with the present assistants? Baylor may overlook this, but the NCAA won’t. If they did those things as listed, then other heads will roll later and it looks like the impetus for that isn’t coming from Baylor. Does Baylor want to take the chance that the NCAA reply will leave those assistants out and look at it as if to wash their hands because it is Title IX? Wouldn’t think so, plus, if the “indictment” hits during the season, what will they do with the discombobulated staff that already has new signals on O and possibly D in the middle of the year?
I say that they have hit the second stage after denial and that’s the clusterfuck stage. Right now they are still in the “shit rolling downhill” phase of stage I denial.
