The Ole Miss game’s gonna be one for the early risers.
Not sure how good or bad that’ll be. Ole Miss will be coming off what I hope is a real grinder against Alabama, so the less time for them, the better, but we saw how well Georgia played at noon last weekend.

Perfect for us. I know Vaught Hemingway isn’t exactly Death Valley, but an 11 am start will keep the noise down and help to negate the home field edge.
IMO, when playing tough road conference games, the earlier in the day the better.

From the standpoint of quieting the home crowd some, this is probably good. But I’m a little surprised LSU v. AU was more attractive in that 6p ESPN slot.

I can see LSU-AU being a late game, more traditional rival than us Ole Miss. But how do you make SC KY a late game?

Probably right, but over history LSU and AU have played 50 times and UGA and Ole Miss have played 45. More recent, division history certainly matters more to the TV marketers.

I was about to say – we played Ole Miss every season from like 1970 until they got rid of the 2nd permanent cross-division opponent after 2002. It’s not like it wasn’t a regular series for a large chunk of time.

Lord help the TV geniuses that made this schedule if Ole Miss upsets Bama this weekend; they’d have relegated what could be a 1 loss Ole Miss team vs what we hope to be an undefeated UGA team to a noon slot on a channel that not everyone has access to.
For a lot of reasons, I’m really excited by this news: this time favors the road team, I’ll actually get to watch the game BEFORE this damned wedding I have to go to, AND there’s the possible bonus of making the TV folks look like total asshats. Everybody wins!

The UGA Ole Miss game is on ESPN at noon, not SEC Network. But you’re right, the reason they did this is because they believe Ole Miss gets beat by Bama giving them two losses. And after our weak performance against Nicholls State we look beatable on the road vs. Missouri. It came down to our game or LSU vs. Auburn in that 6pm slot.

That slot, for the ESPN folks, isn’t your typical “primetime”. The noon slot we are in is generally considered to be the 3rd best SEC game, behind the CBS 3:30 and the ESPN late night. That SEC network game (SC-KY) is hidden behind the ESPN primetime game (LSU-AU), and they’d rather have something people will watch at noon, instead of stacking all the conference games into the same time slot. THE “primetime slot” is that LSU vs Auburn matchup.

This is because there wasn’t good content to go around that day from other leagues. ESPN rarely has a noon SEC game, as those are usually ACC, Big 12 or Big 10 games. But, they must not have had good content, so they picked it. They’re going to fill up the main network before they start regulating things to SEC Network and ESPN2.
This is great for the dawgs. Absolutely great.

Good and bad. On the front end, the team will be getting in mighty late from Missouri, so it’ll be a short turnaround. On the back end, they will getting back from Oxford fairly early. Tie-breaker is a sluggish home crowd and the team not having to wait around at the hotel all day. Most coaches like the early road start.
