The case of the missing rabbit’s foot has been cracked.

Gus dropped it and Booch found it.

The Vols have also been lucky. In theory, that’s not something they’ll be able to count on. They recovered three second-half fumbles against Appalachian State, when recovering only two of three might not have allowed them to take the game to OT. And on Saturday, there were seven fumbles (five by VT, two by UT) … and they recovered all seven.

… Tennessee has recovered 10 of the 12 fumbles in its two games. The Vols have been sloppy in fumbling six times, but they’ve lost only one. This is crazy, and it won’t last.

I know when I’d like to see the Vols’ luck run out.

Sooner or later, the breaks that are falling your way will fall against you. For Butch, let’s hope it’s sooner.

Fumble drills are an important detail many programs ignore as the season progresses.

      It is not just “luck”.

As far as not fumbling and forcing fumbles? That part of it is not so much luck I’ll agree. But that ball’s a funny shape. Being Johnny on the spot to recover 83% of balls on the ground ain’t got nothing to do with any kind of skill or practice

Honestly, you are right about that one in the end zone in OT v. App State. It was not luck, Hurd wanted it more. He was farther away than the others and simply wanted it more. One App St DB was quite lackadaisical and looked like he wasn’t really interested in a fight for the ball. I HATE UT, but that one was earned on that play.

^^This. I saw the same thing I hate it when people chalk up stuff like this to luck. Why is Bama lucky every year? It ain’t luck peeps.

Nobody said it was ALL luck. But it’s some luck when the ball bounces your way. You can bend the odds in your favor? Props to you. But better odds isn’t the same thing as a lock for you. Regression to the mean, and all that.

    That’s not a rabbit’s foot, it’s a monkey’s paw.

Florida will beat TN, no rabbit’s foot needed, and they will do it with a very talented, disciplined defense. I realize they haven’t been tested but that defense looks very similar to the ones I have seen succeed before. If you stop the 1st down run with Hurd, The Alien cannot beat you with his passing when they are behind the chains. Vols will be angry when they come rolling into Sanford, we will get their best shot.

I tend to agree…but at some point all winning streaks come to an end.

The history of ND-Navy agrees, but points out that it can take a long time. If there are any remaining UK football fans, they would add “this goes double w/r/t streaks where Florida is concerned.”

Oh, Mac…did you really type “we will get their best shot”?

Actually being first is soooo much better than being the tool who makes that word his entire post. But yeah, it was tongue in cheek but we will get it one way or the other. If they lose, they become desperate. If they win, Sgt Carter will try to make us seem like thugs who cheap shotted their defensive lineman last year. It is coming, might as well tell our boys to be ready to get smacked.

I think we will be kinda pissed too Mac. How many DGD have went down at Kneeland Stadium? Payback. And they get to play on a real field.

Hope you are right, want to keep our foot on their throat. If they fall off, they may slide into a permanent fight for 3rd or 4th in the East behins us and FU. Kind of where I want them…..forevah!

After watching that App State game, I told several friends that it was eerily reminiscent to the Auburn luck from several years back. They caught so many breaks to win that game. The luck continued against Va Tech. I think this will be Tennessee’s year.

They are going to have to beat FU, Georgia and Bama to be undefeated in the conference. The Vols can’t do that. If they only lose to Bama and beat FU and the Dawgs they can win the East. If they lose to either Georgia of Florida in addition to Bamathe Vols won’t win the East.

  5. My take, Georgia actually got half of the rabbit’s foot. After losing 2 fumbles, Georgia managed a win over Nicholls.

Assuming you are kidding. Didn’t see any breaks for UGA in that game, and shouldn’t have needed any. I would say Nicholls had the good fortune last Saturday, but they deserved some for coming in prepared and hungry.

Mac, what about the wide open receiver when our DB fell down and QB overthrew, and the screen pass where they had more blockers out front than we HS defenders. Thought both of those pretty fortunate.
