It’s interesting to read this piece about changes Georgia has made to its training program in conjunction with the story about Texas A&M I linked to yesterday.
Are the players buying into it? Ask Greg Pyke.
“You’d think that if you came in and just played a hard-fought game, especially after Missouri, you come in at 3:30 (a.m.) and then have to lift at 2 p.m.,” senior offensive tackle Greg Pyke said, smiling. “It’s tough, but I think that’s what makes our team have that edge in the fourth quarter, that we put ourselves in those positions to kind off just out-work people.”
Indeed, Georgia has out-scored its opponents 24-10 in the fourth quarter this season. But opponents have out-scored the Bulldogs in the first, second and third quarters.
The full-lift on Sundays isn’t the only major game-week change. There’s also a full lift on Wednesdays. Under the previous coaching regime, according to receiver Isaiah McKenzie, there was a “light lift during the week – when we could.”
Does that leave you anymore fatigued during the week and in the lead-up to the game?
“Oh it doesn’t affect us,” Pyke said. “Because we lift today then have Thursday and Friday and Saturday. So you’ve got three days off – from lifting.”
I like that little qualification at the end there.
I’ve said since Nicholls the team looked dead legged but nobody’s buying. Add in the bussing to practice and few days off this summer and I think this team is ready for cooler weather for sure.

My hope is once it cools off, Catalina plays a bit better at least.

THIS…is the kind of stuff that takes time. You don’t get soft overnight. You don’t get tough overnight. This starts to matter much more in November, and it’s a sea change philosophy. Will be interesting to see the results.

You can get soft or tough in 9 months, no problem.
do you even lift, bro?

If you’re over 40, you can get soft in 2 weeks and it will take 2 months to get back to where you were. God, I hate getting old.

Yep, we gave Ole Miss’ 3rd team HELL in the fourth quarter last week!

Dude, only one of those TDs was in the fourth, so take that one out and we’re still outscoring opposition 17-10 in the fourth. Domination.

“Outscoring”? The defense has pitched a shut out in 3 of 4 games in the 4th Quarter (with the exception being Nicholls where they gave up drives of -1 and 7 yards for 10 points). The AVERAGE team in college football is scoring 30ppg, you should be getting about 7.5 points per quarter. UGA is scoring 6 points per quarter in the 4th….so I’m not sure why they are interviewing the offense on that piece.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday off?!?! Yep…definitely looks like they have been taking Saturdays off.

That’s what you call taking Saturday off to heart.

It’s really too bad the scores from those first three quarters count too.

A win this Saturday is going to have a lot of folks here confused.

But even a hard fought close loss will have the cliffs and ledges full.

I think a win on will go a long way.
