“It felt good to know we are,” Michel said. “Georgia football, we’re going to run the football.”
Chubb , who had just one carry the past two games with a left-ankle sprain, was on his game from the start. He scampered 18 yards on his first carry and ended the sequence with 15-yard TD run.
Chubb added a 1-yard touchdown as the Bulldogs moved in front 14-0. The Gamecocks (2-4, 1-4) could not keep up in losing their third straight game.
“I don’t know why you’re all so surprised,” Chubb said. “We run the ball.”
A healthy Nick Chubb sure makes a difference.
Maybe it was the pulling linemen and blocking scheme….but Chubb looked like he really benefited from having some time off.
I know he’s superman, but it’s hard to think that he hadn’t been playing with some heavy legs after the UNC game.

So does a terrible run defense.

Dude, they played Nicholls and ran for half the yardage they gained yesterday.

Yeah but Nicholls beat Incarnate Word.

+1. They played big dumb Will Muschamp football against Nicholls.
Seemingly, they’ve figured out they can’t do that.

Also Ole Miss — another team with a suspect run D. We only started running on them when the game was 45-0 in garbage time. Even so, I believe Herrien was our leading rusher than game with around 75 yards.

3&G, I don’t want to go back and look at the stats to that game for obvious reasons, but I believe Nick was on pace for 100 until he got hurt in Oxford. On the topic, when all 3 of these guys are available, this running game is hard to stop when we spread people out.

Thanks eethomas. My basic argument is that I agree with SB on a healthy Nick Chubb. But just as if not more important IMO is that the OL is blocking far better than earlier in the year — they are really starting to move people off the ball. The pass blocking is still a work in progress, but the overall run blocking is far better than just a few weeks ago.

Totally agree – it definitely looks like Pittman is starting to get the results he wants

They ran for 93 in the first half and 137 in the second.

Ole Miss’ run D isn’t as suspect as the stats would lead you to believe. They’ve actually been pretty good stopping running backs… its the running QB’s that have really hurt them this year.

I know this isn’t a championship team yet but for the UT hail mary play the Dawgs would be 5-1 and leading the SEC East. I just want to scream at those %#^&#@* referees who called that celebration penalty.

I hate typing this, but again it was the right call. McGraw not only ran onto the field without his helmet — he ran all the way across the field to celebrate in the end zone after that unreal TD pass. It was so blatant that they had to call it.

But they didn’t when multiple TN players did the same on Eason’s fumble in the end zone…including one on crutches? Of course it is in the rule book but if you don’t think it is a discretionary call you are kidding yourself. McGraw wasn’t even close to either of the reasons that rule is in place. Should have been a no call.

The UT players who came onto the field were near the their own sideline — they barely came onto the field and you see similar celebrations all the time that always go uncalled McGraw, meanwhile, sprinted from the sidelines around the 50, on to the field, and all the way across the other side of the field and into the end zone to celebrate. I mean, cone on — if you have any degree of objectivity you’d realize those two circumstances weren’t even remotely similar.
Its akin to one OL giving a quick tug on a DE’s jersey and releasing as he’s coming off the corner, whereas another simply grabs him in a bear hug and throws/pins him to the ground until the play is over, yet you’re upset that both players weren’t called for holding on those respective plays, because, after all, based on the textbook definition they were indeed both holds.

Chubb looked healthy again. Like he did vs UNC at the beginning of the season.
And the line actually run blocked. Who would have thunk it?
It’s a thing of beauty to see Michel, Chubb, and Herrien all healthy for a game. It’s something that really can’t be stopped. Now if Eason would hurry up and progress already…

Interesting game. I napped and read a book, but saw most of it.
At first I thought it was going to be 48-0 with UGA holding the ball for 45 minutes. That was even close was weird.
I think USC has improved and their passing game might be something by the end of the year. Their QB was forced into some bonehead plays by the UGA D.
I don’t know what to think of the UGA O. But if there’s nothing else to take away, it’s that Smart is learning to win football games very early and that puts a nice polish on the future.
I think the oldest rivalry is going to be fun as usual.

If the passing game had been working at all, it would have been about 42-14, but when you have a freshman making bad reads and throws in addition to mediocre wide receivers, you get what we saw Saturday.

if we had put GL into the game in the 2nd half, we would’ve been better served on a game control and scoreboard. That said, I’m glad for Eason to get as much OJT as possible this year, especially when we can get a win too.

I am glad they stuck with Eason.

I get what Mike is staying, but yeah glad they stuck with Eason.
Speaking of OJT. I hope Ridley and Simmons can get some more PT and start developing. Our receivers get no separation, Eason has to throw them open.

Maybe, but there’s no reason to pull the kid. You may as well let him learn and try to overcome it.

The AU university librarians are relieved to learn of the location of their one book. Other students would like to spend time coloring it too, you know. 🙂
