I don’t think that’s it at all. Sony and the rest of he team had to know going into last year that the Faton experiment had no chance of succeeding.
This year he feels like that have a better game plan. Admittedly, that a very low hurdle to get over, but still.
A whole lot of nothing to me.

Low hurdle? That implies that even a modicum of effort would be required to have a better game plan. The game plan day was the proverbial back-breaking straw for a lot of fans. I was fairly apathetic about Richt until that day.
When it was leaked two weeks before the game that Bauta was going to get the start, I thought for sure that they would put in a package that played to his strengths: zone read, speed option, QB lead draw, a few packaged plays, etc. Nope. Under-center, play-action, back to the defense. Putting in the athletic guy with the weakest and least accurate arm to run the same shit as before isn’t a game plan; it is throwing a good kid under the bus.

He should be…he will test really well at the combine and pass catching ability will be huge asset. NFL doesn’t draft many 1st round backs but they all play at least 2. He’ll go b/w Round 2 and round 4 and play right away.

Sony is DGD through and through. Most consistently effective player we have had the last few years. Fully on par with Chubb in my mind, not sure if his stats bear that out.

I think Sony is likely a better pro prospect than Nick. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield will catch a team’s eye and make him an early 2nd day pick. He also runs with surprising power for a guy who is supposed to be a change of pace back.

I think he proved last year, he is more than a change of pace back. It would be interesting to know some weight room stats as I believe he is much stronger than when he arrived. I agree he will likely be a better pro prospect than Chub.

I agree. I think the perception is that he’s a change of pace. Sony is a feature back not like Gurley but very much like Rodney Hampton (I’ll go old school for that).

Agreed, a big hope of mine was Chubb would be the feature back a game breaker like Fournette just did to Ole Miss and Sony could provide the OC with options to confuse a D as Sony could be nearly as dangerous as a rusher, blocker, or in the slot. You could have Sony in and go 5 wides or lone back set, or possibly have him in with Chubb for 2 Back sets or move him to the slot depending on what the D did.
I see Rodney, in NFL terms I also see Emmitt Smith and possibly others but I turned the NFL off years ago.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying Sony is a better pro prospect than Chubb. I think we all forget what it’s like to watch him run with a little bit of daylight. His strength, speed, balance combo will have scouts drooling…rightfully so. Sony’s upside is that he goes in the late 2nd or 3rd and ends up like Bell, McCoy, or even a Tevin Coleman. Chubb is a lock first to mid 2nd rounder and a prototype first down back.
The only thing I worry about those guys is how they measure. If they are 5-10 to 6’…no issue. They start coming in at 5-8 or 5-9…it will make scouts think twice.

Soooo….you think CMR THREW the WLOCP last year? Man, is that a conspiracy theory! I think CMR saw what was coming and was getting ready to have a place to land before he actually got the ax but actually THROWING a game? Sorry, but I don’t buy that. CMR has a history of making stupid decisions that lose games. The 2015 WLOCP decision to start the 3rd string (read: running) QB without changing the game plan to make the O more of a QB running O has got to be right up there with the “pooch” kick-off and TO at the end of the 2014 Tech-GA game but was not intentionally trying to lose.

Think what you like, nothing else explains playing a running qb and not changing the game plan from the pocket qb plan or leaving the failing game plan in place LONG after it was obvious it wasn’t working. I agree the pooch kick, the not handing off to Gurley at SC and many more examples show that Richt wasn’t the smartest coach but the Bauta debacle was beyond stupidity, it had to be intentional.

So, to explain this, and following Occam’s razor, the assumption would be that Richt made mind numbing decisions before and during the game. Any other theory has too many variables.

Yep. Leaving it a stupid decision making is perfectly reasonable to me. Assuming that Richt had some sort of Machiavellian scheme going on in the background to parachute into Miami stretches the boundaries of what is realistic.

Well, let’s not say there wasn’t any Machiavelli going on. I have felt ever since the CMR firing/Miami hiring that he manipulated the situation to get the buyout. He was talking to Miami before he got fired–we know that. I think he was leaving and when he saw what McIdiot and the other dopes at B-M were up to he backed off and let them fire him so he could collect the dough. How else can you explain that he had the Miami job in 24 hours? Nobody works that fast in college football.

Arguably the best free agent candidate on the market at the time, alma mater, and perhaps a desire for a reboot and to prove some folks wrong.
Why does this seem so unreasonable to a lot of folks that there was a job that opened, a coveted available candidate, and a mutual desire to move quickly once both sides expressed interest?

Again, I think he was just out of answers and had delegated so much to Schotty that he didn’t have an option except to go with what the OC wanted.
It was a disastrous decision that had no chance of success from the jump. But I don’t think he was trying to get fired.
The fact that he looked on national television like he had no idea how to manage his own program was likely the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Funny isn’t it? The haters are actually that delusional. As if we had seen character flaws in this man of integrity the past 15 years. I said almost 10 years ago that I could never blame him if he left because of the Lunatic Fringe that is UGA’s loudest voices. He should have left, but no sane person thinks he would have ever done anything even close to that. But we didn’t deserve him with the group we had denigrating the program and making the job harder, but I certainly appreciate what he did for us anyway. Just hoping we don’t do the nose dive so many other programs have dione in a similar situation. Next few games are important, need to see changes on Saturday.

I don’t think he TRIED to lose the game, but he put together a plan that had no chance of being successful.
It still baffles me what when down the week before and the week after Jacksonville last year.

OT against Ga. Southern, and decisions in the GT make everything very questionable. I will always remember Marshal get yards moving the ball down to the red zone and then getting pulled. UGA settling for FGs. I won’t go so far as to say he threw the game but… he phoned it in and made his peace with whatever happens happens. I think he was burned out. Schott looked like a failure to most of us yet, he didn’t put in the effort to take the offense back.

If he was simply burned out, he could have quit and taken the Miami job. He knew he had to be fired to get the $4 million buyout. I think he knew exactly what he was doing. I think he was surprised we won the Ga Sou and tech games.

Yeah, this is a stretch to me. I too think he was burnt out and ready for a change, but I don’t think he was trying to lose. I think he just realized he had become way too removed from what was actually going on and tried to jump in to save it, but you can’t get back up to speed with everything in the last 4 weeks of the season.
In retrospect, given the roster, the OL, the QB, and the OC, winning those last 4 games was a helluva accomplishment.

I don’t see Richt being dirty enough to outright throw a game, but who knows.
It doesn’t matter now, and we should move on. However, if we are discussing how this year will be different than last year, by default the events leading up to Richt’s firing are part of the discussion.
Let us just hope that Smart puts things in orders, and we can go in Jax not bracing for the worst.

Sony’s overall comment was good to hear, and was nothing inflammatory. The media is trying to turn it into a Joe Namath type guarantee of a win and potential bulletin board material, but it was only a commitment that the team is focused on performing at a high level. If true, and Chaney has made adjustments, I will expect we play FU very competitively on Saturday and will have a decent chance to win the game in the 4th quarter.
While I want to win, and really believe we have a good chance, it isn’t mandatory for me that we have to get a W to be more upbeat about UGA going forward. But we should be able to compete with this Florida in 2016. They definitely have the superior defense but we should be able to limit that offense from long drives. We have enough playmakers on offense to play them straight up this Saturday and are healthy and rested. After 7 games of film, and two weeks to prepare, it is mandatory that our offensive scheme be changed, or it will be a long November…..and winter. Low scoring game, decided in the last 5 minutes is my best guess.
