Georgia loses the River City Showdown.

That game doesn’t deserve to be associated with the Cocktail Party designation.

I thought the defense was very good. The were on the field a lot.
Won’t win many games with 25 yard punts…and the offense was pretty sad. But I will give kudos to the D..they popped some leather out there…some hard hitting. But in the end it was a slow, steady strangulation by the Florida defense.

Really proud of the defensive unit. They played their hearts out. The O coach staff really should be scrutinized and made to justify their future with this program. It’s one thing to not have personnel that has skill sets that jive with each other, but it’s another to be unable to work around known deficiencies. They’ve had time to use what we have and mask what we don’t.

    • Amen. The D was encouraging. We simply can’t score though.

Absolutely couldn’t agree more. At this point in the season we should know what we have, what we do well, and what we don’t. But this offensive staff appears to either not know or not accept those things. Either is a sign of incompetence.

Yes, I keep thinking that a good OC should be able to scheme around a slow, weak line and find mismatches for his best weapons. We have too many quality athletes not to move the football. For the money we pay Chaney, we could get a great football mind in Athens who would love to work with our talent.

Chubb/Michel/Herrien has no blocking. McKenzie/Nauta/Godwin can be ten yards from the nearest DB but Eason is running for his life.

This isn’t complicated. No O-line, no offense.

Agreed. He destroyed that WR on one play. The guy had to leave the game for a while.

And about the offense, we start out throwing to the tight ends for some big plays and then promptly stopped for 3.5 quarters. When this same line can put up good running numbers against several teams by spreading the runs and pulling line, and then other times can’t even get a first down rushing (as today – zero rushing first downs), that’s coaching. Seven games in, we should know what we have and what we can/can’t do. Yet we continue to run into a 9 man box. We continue to throw to the double-covered receivers, ignoring the tight ends (who are studs). And we continue to misuse Chubb, to the point that I think we’ve totally discouraged him.

The guys fought hard today, didn’t quit, but weren’t given the best chance to win. Part of that is having a rookie HC, but the coordinators are supposed to be gurus. Time to start showing something.

I’m on the fence. It’s hard to scheme around bad line play, and someone was getting whipped on nearly every play. That too could be coaching, but I’m not willing to chalk it up to that yet. I thought Eason got a little rattled as the game wore on because of it, too. It could also be that the he’s a true freshman, but he didn’t find some open people when he did actually have time to scan the field.

Its been a long time since we lost to Tennessee, Florida and Auburn in the same year. And I won’t even bring up the North Avenue outfit.

I think the answer is ’99 but not sure.
I know this year sucks. Out loud.
I can’t believe we’ve gone from 10 wins to Kentucky being the biggest game of the yr jus so we can get bowl qualified to have extra practices (what ever the fuck tht means, cuz we been practicing since March, right?). But..but..we didn’t beat anyone last yr with a…except tech, awbarn, & the othr 8 teams we beat. Uggh..,

Man, I am sick of Kirby Smart. He is out of his league. He has no clue what to do. Except to tell his players to play harder and smarter. That’s it. Smart suffers from insanity. I’m callin it now, he doesn’t make it as our head coach. I said Richt was stubborn. He’s soft as warm butter compared to Smart. Same game plan, same post game comments. No ideas. None. “Hey, lets go play Kentucky and run, run, pass, punt. Again. Against everybody. Every week.”

    Fuck me

    • With the RBs & TEs we have , The Dawgs should be able to run the ball,
A different Offensive game plan could be called for. That’s up to Kirby.
My concern remains the coaching staff, particularly Offensive coaches.

The offensive coaches certainly seem to deserve criticism for not scheming around the team’s obvious weaknesses. But, with an OL this bad, I wonder if there’s anything they could do that we could reasonably expect to work. If the line is physically incapable of making holes for the RBs and can’t give Eason more than a couple of seconds before he has to run for his life, then I don’t see how we can expect anything better than what we’ve seen over the past few games.

But, how much of the deficiency is physical? All of it? Most of it? Some of it? We’re supposed to have a great OL coach. Maybe he’s not that great. Or, maybe he is and it would be impossible for anyone to get good results from the linemen who are currently on the roster. As is often the case, maybe it’s a combination of things. I really don’t know. All I do know is that we’ve got three or four future NFL RBs on the team whose talents – hopefully not knees – are being wasted and a promising young QB who’s on the road to CTE.

I think Catalina got beat on 75% of the snaps today.

    • There was a play in 3rd quarter. We pulled Wynn and Catalina never sniffed the guy he was supposed to block down on and Chubb got hit 2 yards deep. Just a tough day.

    Various stats from today:

    21 rushing yards
    164 total yards
    0 rushing 1st downs (1st time in 12 seasons)
    Scoreless in last 42 minutes
    Avg yards per punt 32
    TOP 22:33
9, 3 and out (quoting memory on that one, but I know it was a bunch)

There are more but I hope you get the point. O was terrible………

Nothing to do with losing this game, but continuing to play that game in Jacksonville is insanity. There is ZERO atmosphere. Even when we went up 10-7 it was no better than a bowl game. The pregame is fun, but the game itself is awful. No noise, no atmosphere. Just a bunch of damn commercial breaks & boredom. I know part of that is the two awful teams playing on that game, but it was still not a good game atmosphere. I realize it will not change in my lifetime, but I hope for future Dawg fans it changes to a Athens/Gainesville game. Also, Smart will not be the UGA coach longer than 3 years. He is in over his head. This team has regressed as the season has progressed. It’s as bad as I’ve ever seen it….and I’m 53.

When your head coach is a defensive guy but leads the worst red zone defense in the SEC- that’s bad.

Our defense played ok but let’s face it. They were much better under Pruitt last year.

Kirby has fucked up game management in every game. First half we’re working against the clock and we’re driving. First half expires with the time out unused. I’m sure it’s the players fault though.

How has this teams blocking looked worse each game after NC?

Last year’s defense gave up 250 yards rushing to a Florida offense that couldn’t throw. Yeah, the defense was better overall last year. They certainly were not better in this game.

So much for turning the battleship.
Kirby’s little red row boat was sunk on the Saint Johns today.
Think this game begins the end forr Smart.
Never seen an offense regress as much as this one.
No doubt now that Chaney, Pittman, McGee,and Beamer are not SEC caliber coaches.
And Smart is like Richt. Will not remove substandard coaches even during the season
You can almost ho.back now recruting period to se how they all failed.
Whoeever coaches had better find a damn center and punter.
Kicking at that damn hard. Except at Georgia.
Fire Smart and that worthless AD

So far, I have only watched the first half, and it wasn’t as bad as many of you are saying, but I am sure from the final score that your comments are justified. But here’s my theory:

CKS said at the beginning of the season that he was planning to put the best players on the field to help us win the games. What he didn’t say was what season he was planning to do that – we all just assumed he meant this season. I think he actually meant next season. He didn’t so much want Tyler Catalina to win this year as much as he wanted him so he could redshirt Ben Cleveland and several others this year. And in exchange Tyler gets to play him self into – or out of as the case may be – an NFL job. It’s fine for Eason, too, because he was going to have a learning curve anyway. Might as well do it now, and be prepared for when the talent arrives to actually play. And even today, Eason was making some throws that are hard for mere mortals to make, specifically the TD to Ridley. So there’s still upside for Eason. It only really sucks for Chubb and Michel, because they deserve better. I get that it sucks for fans, too, but if you knew that this year would lead to greater things, it’s be worth it, right?

Anyway, that’s what I’m telling myself right now.

Ya’ll need to stop your complaining, I got rid of the guy everyone bitched about and hired the new unproven, rookie head coach ya’ll wanted. We got a new IPF to fund, a mammoth support staff to pay and fancy new locker rooms to build at the stadium. Get those checkbooks ready, donation and ticket increases are a coming. If you don’t show me the reserve fund money, then I’ll find other warm bodies who will.
