“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
When Roquan first signed with UGA, I remember the Senator commenting on how much we needed a DB who had the speed, range and quickness to cover receivers as well as play sideline to sideline. You endorsed “R” as that guy. You were oh so right! While watching to SEC Championship replay, the punishment he delivered with every tackle was the utmost definition of physicality. Good call Senator.

I remember the consternation from some that he might be a prima donna given his refusal to sign an LOI. Glad we were all wrong.

Reminds me of Derrick Brooks….just a little faster. He is gonna be a helluva pro.

He reminds me of Pollack in the way he has no fear and goes 100% all the time. I’m afraid he’s going to hurt himself in the no fun league.

Way to go Ro!

Should (be) have been greatly considered for the Heisman. But that’s a promotional / marketing job that has to begin early.

Agreed. We all know Heisman voters don’t want to work hard and consider the best overall player. Just limit it to RB and QBs and it makes for a great 30sec ESPN promo that feeds the Heisman marketing.

Well, I wonder if Ro played for another school, say… ohh I don’t know… Notre Dame, would he have been invited to New York?

First of all, it is fantastic that he is getting the recognition he deserves! It has to be a great week to be him.
Second, I am amazed to see there is only one player from Alabama on that first team list. I am certainly not arguing that there should be, just amazed based on reputation and recent history.

I was wondering if that’s why they voted on a 4-3-5 defensive alignment, to get that extra sport in there for ‘Bama.

That surprised me, too. And. like you, I’m not saying there should be more. This year’s Bama team is good, but it’s not quite the juggernaut of years past.

I met him once recently. He is such a nice polite young man.

At least you didn’t say “well-spoken.” 😉

I’m sorry, is calling someone “well spoken” an insult? I thought it was a good thing to be considered well spoken, athlete, student, person on the street, whoever.

Agree, there are already enough examples of athletes who cannot express themselves. R has been a great example of a young man who has handled himself well on, and off, the field ever since hitting campus. I have to say, I didn’t see a year like this coming, what a dominant performance every week! Bravo young man, best of everything for you.

The real crime is that he didn’t win the Bronko Nagurski award (best defensive player). He’s better than Chubb (NOT Nick!). Chubb only rushes the passer. Doesn’t have to cover receivers in space, tackle running backs out of the backfield etc.

Chubb also made 73 tackles at his defensive end position. That’s a fairly large number. I also suspect it was something of a lifetime achievement award, similar to Pollack’s in 2004, which might have been the worst of his three seasons.

Interesting that the 2nd-lowest grade on that list is from Fitzpatrick, who everyone seems to rave about.

The guy was simply amazing this year. Where does everyone rank him at LB all time? Season and career wise?

He’s right there with Thomas Davis and Jarvis Jones. Given UGA’s success this year, he’ll go down as ahead of Jarvis, and if UGA makes it to and/or wins the championship, he’ll probably leap ahead of TD as well based on the sentimental vote, so to speak. Randall Godfrey also is absolutely in that discussion.

I’m a Zambiasi guy when it comes to ability to go sideline-to-sideline, and Roquan is at least his equal.

Hopefully he’ll read Mark Emmert’s comments and reconsider going pro in order to stay and enjoy the student-athlete experience…like he’s supposed to.

The highlight of the year might have been the tackle by the ND player that wasn’t called holding. The Irish were basically confirming that there was only one way to stop #3 this year.

#3 is #1 in our hearts this year. Man, the guy is stellar between the lines and seems to be a great guy outside the lines.
