He sure does. And his pointing to the one rating service that has UGA’s class at #2, when it’s almost universally seen as #1 by everyone else is telling.

And I am so here for it.
The first year after they try to play modern football game is going to be epic. And it’ll take at least three years of truly fortunate and brilliant recruiting to even become decent at it.

I agree, but they are hosed if they stay with it. The service academies can do it because those guys play in the Group of 5, and the kids they recruit have no visions of football as a career. The nerds are proving that this offense isn’t the way to building a sustainable P5 program on either side of the ball.
The question is whether the AD at tech is willing to rip the Band Aid off and put the program back on P5 footing or watch the program sink.
I love they have put themselves in this situation.

I don’t see them really being able to shell out the money for buying out Fish Fry’s contract and then you add in the lost ticket sales they would have from multiple terrible years……
They are more less stuck with hoping for a ACC division championship about twice a decade.

Their football program is at a tipping point. Does anyone think Fish Fry can bring them back to respectability with his recruiting prowess and style of play? Does the tech fan base really care? Given where they are, I can see a slide toward irrelevance as a more likely scenario than winning division titles.

A month ago there was talk of a contract extension being agreed on but I am not sure if it was signed. The AJC articles I would need to read require a subscription which they’re not getting. The AD doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to get him out. It would be interesting to know the buyout.
Expecting a slide to irrelevance is saying they are relevant now 🙂

This style of offense also benefits from the two advantages that service academies have over every other team they play, other than fellow service academies: 1) their players are all very smart, and 2) their players are all very disciplined.

gtu managed to get their name in a recruiting article, particularly one that includes Kirby and UGA. For fishfry’s recruiting efforts this is a major leap forward. Any recruiting press is good recruiting press!

I didn’t follow it either. Seemed like he had about 6 different topics and directions for the article then closed it with nothing. Sort of like a Loran Smith article.

The genius might be able to “out scheme” a more talented team on the offensive side of the ball enough times a year to keep his job. But, his team’s will consistently struggle to preform on defense when faced with a talent deficit. This sbnation piece touches on that and how recruiting rankings matter more on the defensive side of the ball than on the offensive.
