Meanwhile, in Knoxville

The rest of the first Pruitt/Fulmer recruiting class checks in.

I’m sure even though Booch is gone, they’re all gonna wind up being Champions of Life.  If it somehow doesn’t work out, though, it’ll be Pruitt’s fault.

As I’ve been saying for quite a while, UT is and will continue to be screwed, as this is three straight mediocre at best recruiting classes. Heck, the rest of the SEC east is basically screwed too. To put all of this into perspective:

UT’s top recruit would be the 15th best in our class (not counting Peterson, as he hasn’t signed.)…9th best including him with monster drop off otherwise. UF’s top recruit would place 12th in our class. SCU’s top recruit would place 16th in our class. AU’s top recruit would be 10th in our class (and HUGE drop off after him). And GT’s top recruit would be 22nd best in our class.

And remember, these are only the top recruits only, while our ovrall depth in numbers is simply astonishing.

I miss Booch being around to award them five star hearts.

How many UGA fans were saying Smart should have moved directly to Athens leaving Bama at the end of the regular season?

With so many signing during the early period, what kind of class did everyone expect Tennessee to get? I am not say Pruitt will turn the Vols around but I am not going to judge them yet.

It will be interesting to see how coach firing are handled in the future with the early signing period. It certainly helps stable programs, (Cade Mays) It also will not surprise me to see more coaching retirements made during the off season like Stoops

The problem still exists if you’re hiring someone already with a program, which you would be in almost every case. Let’s say you fire the coach in early October. You still have to wait until the season is over to hire an assistant or head coach from another program. If you’re hiring one from a team in the playoff, there’s almost no hope that he’ll leave before it’s over.

I wouldn’t say no hope but yes unlikely. The new signing period gives no time for a new staff to gain traction before many of the recruits who would be targets have decided where they are going.

It will be interesting when we see a coach take a job in say November, and leaves the program before the regular season is over. It will happen eventually.

You’re right. Recruiting these days is about relationships. Given the distance most kids are from Knoxville, it’s essential. There just aren’t too many really good players that have wanted to wear puke orange their whole lives and as we know, some kids with team loyalty will bolt out of state if it mean titles.

CJP will be ok. I think they will be more patient than Mullen’s fan base.

Bama at #9 is the more amazing thing to me. That’s the double effect of losing Kirby and then having to recruit against Kirby.

I saw something where Saban actually used the recruiting for needs excuse. If only Georgia could have held on in that game. Alabama fans would be beside themselves.

While yes Smart does have an impact, don’t underestimate how that snowballed with Pruitt and a NFL guy at OC who didn’t return. Bama recruited just fine last year.

They did, but Kirby was there until the last 2 months of the recruiting period, so he was basically holding on to a good class Richt started, and Bama didn’t have to recruit against him. I think this full cycle is much more telling.

Last year was a full cycle. Smart has 2 seasons in Athens.

Yes Smart without a doubt is a top recruiter. Saban suffered a perfect storm and landed at where Richt put UGA, just as UGA benefited Smart and UGA benefited from the perfect storm. Saban in addition 2 loosing his top 2 defensive coaches over 3 year, also raided Texas and Louisiana last year. The Longhorns are finally spending on recruiting and facilities at a Bama level with a stable coach, and LSU is more stable than they were with Les Miles.

Bama has recruited well enough to just meet needs for a year. Saban just promoted a young coach to DC who has a solid reputation as a recruiter and we’ll see how the OC shakes out. I will call it a trend if the same happens next year.

I think the more interesting number than #9 is 0. 0 is the number of recruits from Georgia in the 2018 Alabama class. You gotta love Kirby’s Wall !!

This. The quality players Saban was getting from Georgia is what helped Bama to those #1 classes. Saban probably did as good as before in the other states he recruited. Missing that talent from Georgia hurt him this year…and helped us.

WTF did Pruitt leave bama for? He should’ve held out for twice what ut is paying.

20 of 22 now…..I never underestimate those bastards, history proves that out (series vs UGA). Not a good year for them, hope they have many more….as They are at the very top of my hate list. They won’t be down for long IMO, I think Pruitt is a helluva a recruiter & Fulmer has been there before (good combo imo). Not gonna make fun of them, as I respect the rivalry.

With that said, congrats to the Dawgs, best class that I have ever seen on paper….my guess is, they will be many more, there is a new Sheriff in town…..move over Saban.

Speaking of Tennessee, Mark Fox’s hoopsters are losing my religion in Nashville tonight. Defend him if you want, but he is not a good coach. He has the talent to go 20-16 but can’t coach to a 25-10 year. He is gonna cost the program 5 losses a year. We’re losing bad to a 8-15 (2-8) Vandy team and making them look like a tourney team. He just doesn’t have it. Not gonna get it, either.
