Georgia, still on his mind

Mark Richt’s reportedly made a hire to replace his defensive line coach who departed for greener pastures in Tuscaloosa.

InsideTheU has learned that Atlanta Falcons defensive assistant Jess Simpson is expected to be Miami’s next defensive line coach.

Simpson is billed as one of the most successful coaches in Georgia prep football history. He was the head coach at Buford High for 12 seasons and won seven state titles. The Auburn graduate spent the 2016 season as Georgia State’s defensive line/assistant head coach.

Interesting move, no?  I would assume that means Miami intends to recruit Richt’s old stomping grounds more heavily.

Richt is still loved by many, and everyone and their brother recruits South Florida (not that Georgia is much different). It is a very logical move to widen his net.

They will try. Ultimately it’s still a shit program with an awful game day experience and a campus that’s not “Miami.” Good luck.

    Current #1 recruiting class with 25 bazillion 3 stars….

One would think that Thomas Brown could cull some GA talent….Monster recruiter Jess Thompson should put them over the top.

Here’s the list of Buford Wolves to have signed with UGA during Richt’s tenure:

    Aaron Scranton
    Trey Chandler
    Dallas Lee
    Kolton Houston

DGDs all, but I doubt Kirby is shaking in his boots.

    • I don’t think a guy like this is limited to contacts with his old school. If he coached that long, assuming he’s not a complete asshole, he’s probably got a network of other coaches around the state who find him credible.
