Gain a backup quarterback, lose a defensive coordinator.

This is cold.  He didn’t even put his name in the transfer portal.

It’s also a fantastic hire by Riley.  Grinch did a great job at Wazzu.

    Lincoln Riley is learning.
    This is a huge hire for them.
    Considered one of the top DCs.
    Makes you wonder what Kirby is doing.
    Apparently not enough.
    Look at what Gundy did at OSU.
    Kirby needs to hit the RPMs and get his butt in gear along with his head.

    Take this slot to respond to Marshall comments.
    Nobody cares what coaches or players make.
    Most of us understand how an injury could impact a players college career and potential NFL career.
    Here is the crux.
    At what point does a “Baker” decide he needs to protect his [1] value, [2] body, and [3] and the potential ending injury.
    Not a problem for SECGC. Was that far enough out from February? Guess so. But not a bowl game that is closer.
    Frankly if that was his mind set then why not shut down your tool box before the UMass game.
    Say it again, when a player decides not to play due to injury risk re going pro, then they have made the decision to go pro by such an affirmative act.
    Needs to be removed from the program and all resources. Now a professional.
    NFL and NCAA better work out a solution or D1 football plus the bowls [could add in regular season games] will be negatively impacted.

      You really don’t know the answer? Are you intentionally dumb or does it come natural?

      He was playing for titles that meant something to him and to his teammates. Cleary the Sugar Bowl trophy did not count among those he considered valuable. Perhaps it was even more widespread than we knew.

      No doubt you’re convinced Baker wouldn’t have played in the playoffs or Monday night, right? I mean damn!

      Yeah, let’s keep forgetting that Baker gave up being a 2nd (probably late-1st) round pick to come back for his senior season. Instead of thanking him for an extra 13 games, on top of the 3 years he’d already given us, let’s piss and moan because he chose not to play in a consolation-prize bowl game that doesn’t matter to anyone who grew up in the BCS era.

      This is a business. Baker (and any elite college football player, really) came to Georgia to position himself for a career in the NFL. “Education” and the “college experience” are ancillary benefits. He’s here to learn, to receive high-level training, to demonstrate his abilities for scouts, and to ultimately land a job in the NFL, a job with a very limited shelf life.

      For Georgia’s part, they recruit high level high school athletes with the promise that their coaches and training staff are capable of preparing them for the NFL. Despite the NCAA’s b.s. advertising slogan of “going pro in something other than sports” good players at good programs are focused on going pro and coaches are selling the next wave of high school talent on the big dollar figures that await on Sundays. It may sound cynical, but it’s the truth.

      Jaylon Smith lost about $30 million in guaranteed money & signing bonuses when he tore his ACL in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl. He’s one of the lucky ones – the Cowboys took him in the 2nd round primarily because the Cowboys’ team doctor was the one who did his knee surgery.
