Deangelo Gibbs is taking his talents to Tennessee. Not his defensive back talents, though.
DawgNation can confirm that Gibbs is enrolled at Tennessee and will move to the other side of the ball and play wide receiver for the Vols. The news was first reported by 247Sports’ Grant Ramey.
Best of luck to the kid; hope he finds his way.
Nice to see that the Vols want some of that sweet second chance action that Auburn had been hogging to itself.
With the transfer rule changes and appeal process, everyone is ‘Second Chance U’.

A Husker Du reference in your title? Or am I over-interpreting?

Close. I was riffing off “When Blue Turns To Grey”.

Of course! I was thinking “Pink turns to blue” – not sure why I had such a grim tune on stuck in the old braincase.

Wish DG all the best. Had high hopes for him coming in.

What was the actual reason he was removed from the team? Don’t know. Asking.

Yeah, it’s been kind of weird. We, meaning those of us outside of the arena, haven’t really heard the reasons why he was in trouble.

Well, we should at least find out if vol players actually have to attend class. That was just one of Gibbs’ um, ‘burning’ issues in Athens.

Well, good luck to him. I hope he helps them beat the Gators and maybe finally get over the Vandy hump. (I giggled typing that.)
If he plays against us, I hope his cousin steals every pass, and the others are dropped.

I felt he was a very smooth and talented receiver coming out of HS. Wish we had tried him there but our needs were always greater as a DB. I wish him personal success, obviously not against UGA, but there does seem to be a few things going on off the field that may make him a better fit in Knoxville. Had high hopes for him when he signed but we basically got nada.

Not sure it would have mattered where we tried him.

Damn that Chaney, stealing all our 5 stars. . .

If UT is still the same old UT, the players can just drop the classes at anytime and get an incomplete. UT has the strangest drop system I have ever heard of. Half their National Championship team had dropped their classes that year.

Here’s a thought. If Fields is successful in getting a waiver on the grounds they’re appealing, then couldn’t Gibbs, and therefore any minority athlete from UGA?

Yep. Don’t even have to be an minority. A “hostile” workplace is hostile to everyone, not just minorities.

When at coached at West Forsyth, we played Peachtree Ridge in the playoffs Gibbs’ junior year. On tape, and then live in the game, he was the best defensive back I had ever seen on a high school field. Such a shame he never got things going in the Red & Black.
