If you weren’t already feverishly hoping for the Dawgs to whip some Gator ass in Jacksonville, this ought to do the trick.
The producers of Fox’s Big Noon Show, where Urban currently employed, asked each co-host to pick their “breakthrough team” in 2020. Urban’s’ choice was easy: The Florida Gators
“I think they should be in the playoff,” Urban said of the 2020 Gators. “I think it’s time. Dan’s built a good program. But I spent six years at Florida. Georgia is a BIG game. Until you beat Georgia you can’t say a thing. And I think this is the year.”
Which adds even more fuel to the fire for the Oct. 31 WLOCP in Jacksonville in what promises to be one of the most-discussed SEC games of the year starting with spring football.
As for the Bulldogs, Meyer says: “Georgia has a good squad but it’s a transition year at quarterback (Jamie Newman) and with the offensive coordinator (Todd Monken). If Dan can keep that team healthy I think they’ll be there right at the end.”
I agree about Georgia, given that its entire focus is going to be on Kirby Smart’s ability to create the new chemistry around the coaching staff and a new quarterback in time to compete at the highest level for the Bulldogs’ big game in Tuscaloosa Sept. 19.
Like Urban said, “you gotta beat Georgia.” Keep in mind that Newman has never taken a snap in the SEC.
You know the Celebration still eats at whatever’s left of his soul. Good.

He traded that in one dark night at the coaching cross roads. Once done that deal can’t be broken.

It’s so fashioned to pick Florida right now. And easy too, no ones going to remember and no ones going to call you out on it on Nov 1st.
The heartbreak Florida is being set up for is great though

I think it is fashionable because a lot of pundits are of the age where they began following college football in the early 1990s and UF as a power was ingrained in them.
Kind of like me and Nebraska. My memories of college football growing up include Nebraska being a nationalmpower and I still think of Nebraska as a power just a recruiting class away. Thirty year old fans think of the same Nebraska team a whole lot differently.

Fashionable silly phone. But yes. Why are they setting up Georgia as the underdog though? Or are they playing it both ways?
This is all set up perfect for a total dominating game. And Newman is a senior, and have 8 games! In the SEC by then. To include Bama and AU. I think he’ll be adjusted y then. Or he won’t and won’t be playing.
The narrative, as usual, makes no sense.

Right, and the love for Trask which I can appreciate (although it sure sounds like the same thing said about Franks) might be lessened if he can’t overcome some large losses at WR and the front 7 on D. (We will see if Cox can set an edge finally with Newman as well!)

So they are holding on to something that a coach they now loathe said? Kind of tells you where they are these days… Meyer is a strange duck, and that’s an insult to a strange duck…

Winner! He is Frank Burns if Burns had ever been able to get his ducks in a row. Mullen on the other hand is running around looking for Captain Tuttle.

Sadly, the Gators owned our last Corch.

I don’t give a damn about what a guy who employed and covered for Zach Smith and gave Aaron Hernandez a scholarship has to say about anything.

The 2008 list of players that had “issues” is insane.

What drives me nuts about that is that the media totally gave him a pass about the issues. If Kirby has to morph into Corch to win UGA a national championship, I frankly would say no thanks. It’s not about the Georgia Way … it’s about common decency.

I am just befuddled as to what, exactly, the gators are bringing back from a team that we whipped pretty soundly last year, that would inspire anyone to think they would make the playoff this year, much less win in Jax. I get that it’s a “transition year” for us on offense, and that they may see that as their opening, but really- how could our offense be any worse than it was last year? I really can’t envision a scenario where, especially by late October, our offense won’t be better than it was this year. SMH…at any rate…FTMF.

Agree. Corch math: Losing your 6+ best players + three average/poor recruiting classes = playoff contender!

Florida’s got a talented team. I don’t think it’s a stretch to project that by November, they could be ranked as high as #2. In the SEC East.

Name any 3 fu players you consider an above average talent.

I’ll start: Kyle Pitts, Trevon Grimes and Kaiir Elam.

And you believe any of those 3 are better than the Dawgs at the same position?

Love to hear whom you think UGA has at tight end who’s better than Pitts.
Look, do I think UF, overall, is more talented than UGA? No. Do I think UF is a good team? Yes.

I am taking a bit of a wait and see attitude toward Newman, but I am hopeful by a lot of smart people saying he will be pretty good (CMR among them). I am not saying that the result will be the same, but it seems a little like the feeling UT had after Manning left and Tee Martin took over (or even UGA with Shockley). I think they are similar QBs in some ways, and I think we will be fine at the QB position. A few pretty good QB coaches such as Lincoln Riley wanted Newman (and Vandagriff to come) for a reason.

I like how much pressure the Sideshow Portal Master is under to win that elusive “big game.” Last year we saw what those nerves will do: 3 time outs in the first few minutes of the game.

Our D is going to be lights out, and our offense cannot be any worse than last year (can it?), and we still whipped their ass. UF fan reminds me of Georgia fan in the 1990s.

“If Dan can keep that team healthy I think they’ll be there right at the end.” This comment reminded me of something. Mullen loves QB run on 3rd and short. Not always a great recipe for QB health in the SEC.

I do think Corch is right that the Gators will be right there as second best at the WLOCP.

With the fence going up in fla., corch with spouting trivial dribble about FU being in the same game with UGA, plus being on a first name basis with the hc at FU…..it’s looking mighty dim for UGA this year, the angst presented for me towards those asswipes makes this my go to game this year….#FTMF see you in Jacksonville 2020

That’s some Pat Dye-level bulletin board material. The more expectations and pressure on Mullen and the Gators going into that game, the better for Georgia.

Bottom line is UF will be playing a team in UGA that returns the bulk of the D that had us trailing ever in only one game in the last 8 after USC and gave up one rushing TD all year. That isn’t just 7-1 after that loss, that’s 7-1 with 7 games never trailing on the scoreboard.
We could lose (see USC 2019 et al) but UF didn’t show us anything like that type of dominance to be overly concerned about in 2020.

Corch is only placing additional pressure on Cousin Eddie and you know it’s intentional. Corch doesn’t want Cousin Eddie to succeed. Yes Corch is that petty and mean spirited.

And on what does he base his irrationality? Only that, ” I think its time.” Well, frog lips, if that’s the criteria, then “I think its time” for UGA to win another NC kicking gator butt in the process.
