Baylor coach Kim Mulkey believes money will be the main reason the NCAA will continue playing basketball this season and hold its men’s and women’s tournaments amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“The answer is this: The season will continue on. It’s called the almighty dollar,” Mulkey said after the sixth-ranked Lady Bears lost 75-71 to Iowa State on Saturday night. “The NCAA has to have the almighty dollar from the men’s tournament. The almighty dollar is more important than the health and welfare of me, the players or anybody else.”
‘Ya think? And I thought it was something, something doing it for the kids.

If you aren’t comfortable coaching, then don’t. If the players aren’t comfortable playing, they have the option to opt out of the season.
No doubt, the NCAA and its member institutions are having a spring sports schedule for the money of the basketball tournaments and the College World Series. Hell, even the golf championships are going to be broadcast live by Golf Channel (I believe the top 5 individual seniors for the season on the men’s side are going to get limited Korn Ferry Tour exemptions. Others below that will get exemptions to the lesser tours run by the PGA Tour.).

The NCAA may put on the fencing championships for the good of the athletes, but pretty much all of their big championships that generate cash flow occur in the spring.

She spoke the truth, expressed an opinion, and the reaction on this blog is to call her a hypocrite for doing her job? How can she influence change by quitting? She has a seat at the table and is using it. Coach K is saying exactly the same thing very publicly including his XM radio forum and makes the distinction clear that he has a responsibility to the school, coaches, kids and parents even though he disagrees with how things are being handled.
Quit (and be silent) or work (and be silent) are not the correct binary options here. Damn, people.

I just find it patronizing someone bitching about the money getting paid by same money. I’ll buy you a soda pop sometime somewhere and maybe I can explain better. I don’t think we are at odds about this, i just can’t make you see what I mean.

As someone required to work at risk, I can understand the quandary.
You know its not safe. You also know you can’t say “l’m not showing up,” at least not without lots of adverse consequences.
So you can feel coerced and unsafe and also cash the checks.
I just don’t see the inconsistency. Your preference is that health and safety would be a higher priority, but if the muckity mucks in charge think different what can you do?
I don’t think shutting up or going broke have to be your only acceptable options.
I also think there was a whole lot of misogyny displayed on here today which is quite unfortunate imho.
