Another week, another set of data points to fill in the conference picture.
- Alabama. Cool stat, for more than one reason: Alabama hasn’t trailed at any point in its last 53 quarters of play, which is the longest streak for any FBS team since 1950. (I’m sure you can pinpoint when that streak started.)
- Georgia. You know you’re having a good day when you cover a better than four-touchdown spread with three minutes to go in the first quarter.
- Arkansas. Sam Pittman’s the early favorite for SEC Coach of the Year, right?
- Florida. The Gators have an offensive identity, and it’s good enough against most teams to offset Grantham’s shortcomings.
- Ole Miss. Early bye week for Junior’s team, which gives them plenty of time to prepare for Alabama.
- Texas A&M. Sure, the injuries didn’t help, but that offense simply isn’t dynamic enough to overcome a hole like the one Arkansas dug for the Aggies. Hard to believe this is a serious statement, but they miss Kellen Mond.
- Auburn. Epic comeback against *** checks notes *** Georgia State and a quarterback controversy? That’s a good game, if you’re someone who doesn’t care for Auburn.
- LSU. It wasn’t pretty, but they won their conference opener, which is an improvement already over last season.
- Kentucky. Survived and advanced in a conference road game. Okay, still tied for first in the division.
- Mississippi State. For an offensive-minded coach, the Pirate sure doesn’t seem to be dialing up a lot of points so far in 2021.
- Missouri. The Tigers aren’t Vandy-level bad on defense, but they’re pretty bad.
- Tennessee. Tried to make a (meteor) game of it early, but allowed Emory Jones to get comfortable enough to turn in his best performance of the season.
- South Carolina. Played hard at home, but their offense is so, so anemic.
- Vanderbilt. Truly on a different level from every other team in the conference. Sheesh.
No matter the season out come, your # 3 option is on solid ground…I, I, I don’t care for auburn…#AUBURN SUCKS!

I’ve seen enough of Florida to know Grantham is still there. Tennessee had receivers wide open all over the field most plays. They just don’t have a QB that can throw it anywhere near them. Also, I wonder how many times EJ can get hit by SEC LBs at full speed.

Auburn sucks and should have lost.

That call in the Auburn game might be one of the worst calls by an SEC crew that I can recall. They shouldn’t be allowed to call another game this season.

Yep. The Panthers got absolutely jobbed. #TheCheckCleared

The replay that ruled that trapped ball a catch was about as bad (blatant dishonesty) as it gets. Even the Auburn players and coaches and fans were shocked when they got that call.
Georgia State outplayed Auburn.

On Mond, awful can make you long for decent. I didn’t watch much of the game once it became clear that A&M was going to have major difficulty scoring at all, let alone cutting into the 17-0 lead, but how did Spiller only have 12 carries? Was he hurt?

What’s the story with Mizzou? Drink was pretty arrogant at media days, so i kind of expected them to be at least decent?

I think they miss Ole Barry who is the DC at Arkansas, personally, but then again, who GAS what any tigers think? All of them…MO,LSU,Aubutt, Clemson etc.

Not only did Auburn need a furious comeback (and some home cookin’ from the refs) to beat Georgia State, they unloaded their WRs coach on Sunday. A staff shakeup four games into your tenure at a new program doesn’t strike me as a positive omen.

Harsin is already burning through some of his life lines… very curious cutting a coach 4 games in.

Their team got whipped up front on both sides of the ball by the 106th-rated recruiter in college football…
But yeah, it’s the wideout coach that needed to go.

I’ll be watching the Bama Ole Miss game pretty closely this weekend. I know that the spread is sitting at around Bama -14.5 but the total of 77.5 seems a bit low. It wouldn’t surprise me a bit if Ole Miss went into Tuscaloosa this weekend and won. It would surprise me a bit if the final wasn’t something like winner in the high 40s/low 50s and the loser in the low 40s.

Incidentally, Vandy should be like Villanova. Member of the SEC for sports not called football and FCS for football. The Vandy vs. UConn game this weekend is truly the Toilet Bowl to see which is the absolute worst FBS football program in the nation.

Why? Why all the vitriol for Vandy? I see it all the time – but it’s a guaranteed conference W most seasons, and the seasons when it isn’t just goes further to prove the lunacy of the “they’ll never matter” mantra.
They play the spoiler game from time to time… those teams are great.
But people who are perfectly happy scheduling UAB or Northeast Charleston State School for the Blind shouldn’t have problems with Vanderbilt. When they actually went to bowls a couple of times in the ’10’s, it was the feel good story of the SEC!
Besides, all the CFP money has finally turned into upgraded facilities there. I doubt they’ll ever have a leadership that cares enough about football to turn them into a Kentucky-or-Arkansas level competitor… but they’re putting money into the program now.
Maybe they’ll be bottom-level competitive, make some bowl games, and pull some recruits.
Besides, on the rare occasion that Vandy pulls a high-level recruit, it’s usually at the expense of Tennessee or Bama or some other SEC program who isn’t Georgia, and I’m FOR that.

Vandy is competitive in many sports. Football isn’t one of them. Any school in a league like the SEC that terminates the entire athletics media relations department (save one person) in favor of integrating those communications into the overall communications of the institution isn’t serious about football and shouldn’t reap the millions of dollars they do as member school payouts. They shouldn’t be a football member.

You know, all summer we were saying around here “this team could be the greatest, all that’s missing is to see if anyone emerges as a star on both sides of the ball”. I think we are close to having our stars/impact players. We’ve got Bowers, Ladd for now and of course Davis and Carter, Tindall.
I think we should move to #1 next week.

Jordan Davis is clearly a star. But Nakobe Dean is an absolute stud as well. Only SEC linebacker to grade out at 80 or above in both run defense and pass defense.

Arky needs to rest their QB this week and let that freshman get more snaps. Good to prepare for the long haul in the west.

My top five (with comment):
1. DAWGS — hands down! I don’t need the bogus AP poll or Coaches poll to tell me what my eyes see.
2. Arkansas — Kicked Texas’ ass. Kicked Jimbo’s ass. There’s a new KING in Texas that resides in Fayetteville, AR. The Pit Boss is a welcomed in all 17/18 year olds homes south of the red river after the past three weeks. Me thinks Arkansas can handle Alabama. But not enough @ QB to overcome DAWGS.
3. Alabama — a yawner in Tuscaloosa Saturday. Gave up 14 points. This Bama defense leaks like a sieve. I really think Kiffin has something special dialed up Golding. Golding is the most hated man on the Capstone right now. He may be put before the firing squad come Sunday.
4. Ole Miss — Big test cometh. been in my top five all season. Can they overcome the Bama homefield advantage?
5. Kentucky — just win baby. A “covering” win v. SC. Levis was not good. But damn they can tote the rock. Host FL Saturday @ Kroger. I think they (KY) have better than a chance.

I tried to explain the concept of a meteor game to my kids this weekend, and I think they were slightly horrified. “So you want EVERYONE in the stadium to DIE?” Apparently my sickness is a recessive gene.

I know fans, ours and around the SEC, are tired of Vandy cashing checks with no football investment. Now Vandy fans are expressing their opinion it is time for the administration to spend or get out of the SEC.

Well, they’re putting $300 MM into athletics facilities and they just got a nice locker room, so they ain’t just sitting on cash these days.
