Nice while it lasted

I’m having a sad right now.  Why?  ‘Cause, this:

Yeah, “may” could be doing some heavy lifting, but still…

As far as the Addae news, it sounds like Kirby’s already working on Plan B.

Say what you will, Georgia football isn’t boring these days.

I would think the Todd Monken news is the reason they have Buster Faulkner as an analyst. Just my opinion.

Damn. I’d hate to see Monken go. Addae either for that matter.

    • I would, too. As productive as Georgia’s offense was this season, I feel like we still haven’t quite seen Monken’s scheme run at peak efficiency.

Then again, the fact that Monken was hired at all could be a sign that Kirby has finally gotten religion on opening up the offense and won’t be making James Coley-type big-dumb-football hires anymore. At least, that’s what I hope.

RR my exact sentiments…Saban has been successful loosing coordinators for years…time for us to Man The Fuck Up! The “G” is a powerful thing…we will get the best out there and we will always compete🐶🐾

Monken is the best OC UGA has ever had. If Monken leaves I’ll be praying Bobo isn’t his replacement

  4. If true about Monken, I would think the current offensive depth chart would be enticing to some good options to replace him. Hate to see him move on already though.

Nope. Nothing gonna bring me down off this high.

Also, hasn’t Kirby been “on the mutha” about this since Monken got here? A young, exciting offensive mind in Buster Faulkner, who may have some new, fun wrinkles of his own to further spreadify our offense is already on staff.

    Not worried. Just joyful.

Snark aside, I like your take.

We’re in the 5-year grace period man, trademark pending – Bill Simmons.

I told y’all that about 25 years of sports misery, starting with the 1996 World Series and the Ray Goff years and Jim Donnan and all of Richt’s near misses and the Braves constantly losing in the postseason and the Falcons and the Hawks and then having my hockey team stolen from me by an asshole Commissioner who decided to save a bankrupt team in the desert because Wayne Gretsky was involved with them… all that stripped my faith away… I had no faith, only the expectation to look up and see the anvil falling on my head.

That’s gone for now. The Braves winning was great, but the Dawgs winning restored my faith.

Well, five years may be too many these days. Just ask LSU. But I understand your point and appreciate it.

Orgeron was bringing his new girlfriend and her kids to practices and allowing them to “participate.” The sexual assaults as well were a factor. A Lot going on there.

I must know and hang out with more corn dog fans than you….but the could care less about Coach O hauling 2 bit hoes to practice on a blocking sled. It’s the not-winning they couldn’t take. Bigger sacks of shit than auburn fans.

I know it’s not a done deal but, I was truly hoping Monken had found his home for the remainder of his coaching days.

I don’t know Monken, but you have to figure he accomplished what he wanted to do at the collegiate level and wants to go back to the League. Plus, you don’t have to screw around with recruiting. No NIL, no having to re-recruit your entire roster after every year, etc…

I can never tell when these things are real or designed as click bait. I have to think that if Monken wanted to he could have been in the NFL somewhere anytime he wanted. It’s not like we set any offensive records while he was here, but the personnel is getting better. How much do you make in the NFL as an OC?

This is the new normal in CFB. Kirby’s going to keep earning his money this off-season (is there an “off-season”?).

He talked about this in the interview with Reece Davis. There’s no downtime. The problem is finding the good people left in CFB that haven’t moved to the NFL for better work/life balance.

  12. Radi reporting that the Monken rumor is much more rumor than fact right now, and he’s not currently in any talks with any NFL teams at the moment. That could change certainly, but he seems happy in Athens.

I would hate to see Monken go, but my only request in a potential replacement is that they have to commit to continuing to throw to the tight ends. End of story.

Absolutely gotdam right, oh Frozen One. Y’all need to enjoy this as if it will be the last NC for awhile. Mr Tom and I were discussing this last year. Had you wagered me $10,000 on January 2,1981, with Herschel Walker coming back for two more years, that it would be four decades before Georgia won another NC? I would’ve taken that bet with 10-1 odds.
I have faith that Kirby and the Dawgs will earn more Championships in the next few years. But I ain’t betting. Nothing is a given.
Have fun with this, girls. Celebrate good times!

Absolutely, RR. Like Robert Earl sings:
Got this old black leather Jacket
Got this pack of Marlbro’ Reds
Got this stash here in my pocket
Got these thoughts here in my head…
The right to run until I gotta walk
Or until I have to crawl…
I got this moment that I’m in right now, and nothing else at all
Enjoy this moment, Dawgs. I damn sure am.

I said last summer and I’m seen nothing to change my mind. Kirby Smart is rewriting the record books for Georgia football. He’ll be the winningest coach with the most National Championships at Georgia. He’s home there is nowhere else he wants to be. Recruiting and striving to win are in his DNA. We have entered the Golden Age of Georgia football. Enjoy the ride.

If I was a coach on our staff, I’d be pissed if my agent wasn’t floating rumors about me taking another job. Just about every unit was exceptional and they should all be in for nice raises. Gotta fight for your share.

Our offense was 9th in the country in scoring offense (38.6 ppg), 4th in ypp (6.98) and 25th in the nation in total offense (442 ypg), all while effectively playing our second string the whole year at WR, TE and QB (not a knock on Stetson). Damn that’s impressive.

  17. Speaking of coaches did any of you watch the replay of the NT game with Jimbo and staff providing commentary? Asking because James Coley is in the room and I’m not sure I’ve ever been less impressed with a coach and his commentary. The entire event is an opportunity to interview and wow people with your knowledge and analysis and the dude has side conversations about ice cream. There’s clearly still some bitterness about his Georgia experience. That or he’s just a doofus.

I heard the entire thing with Jimbo was unimpressive because it was just Jimbo talking and his hand-picked assistants agreeing with him.

They should have added a contrary opinion or two to the mix. Lane Kiffin and Mike Leach would have been great fun with a fuddy duddy like Jimbo.

      ESPN messed that-up for sure.

Coley needs to go sell insurance or something. He’s clearly nothing more than a good recruiter (aka salesman) and doesn’t have much in the way of coaching ability.

I don’t know if it’s being over 50, but damn, I just know that next year will be a thoroughly different team and coaching staff. It’s stressful as hell because for us old folks, DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING after you won it all. Just not the case anymore. We could go 7-5 next year in a snap.

Holy crap…. In the last 5 years Kirby is 57-6 against all coaches not named Saban. 4 of those coaches are no longer HC’s… Mullen, Muschamp, Ed O (2x) Herman, Malzahn is the only active HC and he ain’t beating Kirby again.

God, I would HATE to lose Monken! I still don’t think we’ve seen his fully operational offense and that’s the side of the ball where I would worry about Kirby making hiring mistakes.

Coley is the only whiff Kirby has made so far, and we still won the east only to lose to a generational
LSU team. Kirby immediately corrected that mistake. I have no reason to believe Kirby isn’t on the mother.

Coaches leaving for a step up while not ideal makes sense. Players who grade high leaving for the NFL while not what we want makes sense. Players who a down stuck down the depth chart leaving for playing time elsewhere sucks but makes sense. Jalen Kimber leaving has got me totally stumped. He would have been starting but for injury/surgery. He almost assuredly would be starting next year opposite Ringo. The only thing that I can think of is that he is home sick. The DFW metroplex is a LONG way from Athens.
