Seems so obvious now, doesn’t it?
I dread seeing what folks will be writing about college football a decade from now.

Here is what my 10 years of researching the Experience Chart has uncovered. There were 150 teams ranked in the Top 15 of the Experience Chart and 90 of them improved their record with 20 having the same record and only 40 of the teams 27% had a weaker record the next year. Teams ranked in the #16-30 slot had a 65.6% success rate with only 52 of the 150 having a weaker record. Teams in the #31-45 group were almost the same with a 64.24% success rate with 54 of the 150 teams having a weaker record. The rest of the upper half of the chart was solid at well with a 60.67% success rate and only 59 of the 150 teams having a weaker record.
The other end of the chart had even better success. Of the teams at the bottom 15 of the experience Chart 83.2% of the teams had a weaker or the same record as the previous year with just 20 teams managing to improve their record. Of the teams from #102-#116 only 53 of the 150 years managed to improve their record for a 64.9 % success rate of teams near the bottom having a weaker or the same record the next year. The next level of teams from #87-#101 had an even better 68.6% success rate with just 48 of the 150 teams improving their record. As you would expect teams in the next level (middle of the pack) were about a 50/50 proposition.
Now, even those numbers show some nuance. After all, there’s experience and then there’s experience. A team ranked highly in Bud Elliott’s Blue Chip Ratio ratings is likely to be better than a team like, say, Georgia Tech, even if it returns far less experience.
With that in mind, here’s how the SEC shapes up for 2023.
More and more, 2023 just doesn’t look like it’s shaping up to be Billy Napier’s year, does it?

UPDATE: And now, a little nuance…
Georgia and ‘Bama look a little stronger there. So does Florida.

This is one of those stories that I’m skeptical of its veracity, yet at the same time so desperately want it to be true.
T.J. Dudley has reportedly been dismissed from the Clemson football program. The linebacker was alleged to have marketed unauthorized images of teammates on his OnlyFans profile.
The former four-star prospect was to assume a significant position within Clemson’s defensive lineup for the upcoming season after a noteworthy freshman year. However, he won’t be continuing his college football career with the Tigers.
The news was revealed by “Beatin the Bookie” on Twitter.
“T.J. Dudley sold pictures via OnlyFans of unsuspecting teammates in the Clemson locker room…it didn’t go well with the team when they found out, he was then dismissed from the team.”
Believe it or not, there’s a punchline to the story.
In what will be a fresh start in college football, T.J. Dudley has committed to Ole Miss. The linebacker announced his decision via social media on Friday night.
Boy, if I were an Ole Miss player, I’d keep my head on a swivel in the locker room, that’s for sure.

Sources within the SEC indicate there’s certainly been chatter recently among the athletic directors about adding more teams — simply as a reaction to recent events — but there’s also a reality to the finances component as they ask each other if they’re willing to share revenue with more schools. There are certain sources of income beyond the television money that don’t fluctuate much — like the conference championship games, the baseball tournaments, etc. [Emphasis added.]
After all these years, it’s reflexive.
I bet you if you asked them off the record, to a man they’d all say this conference realignment crap is bad for the sport, but, hey, what can they do?

Hey, you ever have one of those moments when you think a great idea pops into your head, and when you go to touch pen to paper/fingers to keyboard, as you flesh it out, you realize it’s anything but? Happens to me regularly, so consider yourselves lucky that I manage to pull myself back from the ledge as I do from time to time.
Too bad I can’t say the same for Stewart Mandel here.
Th-th-that’s not promotion/relegation, at least not in the Premier League sense. Not even close. Those teams aren’t moving because of merit (or lack thereof) on the field. They just happen to be the lucky (or unlucky) ones who played the P5 version of musical chairs, broadcast rights version. In fact, it’s kind of insulting to the players to use that analogy, as if their play impacted the future of their programs.
As William Munny once said, “deserve’s got nothin’ to do with it”. Next time, don’t be so quick to hit the enter button, Stew.
