Two things about this:
- That’s why Alabama is in the CFP instead of FSU this year.
- CBS made a ginormous mistake walking away from a deal with the SEC.

Say good bye to the have nots, haves.

UPDATE: By the way, don’t take your eyes off the prize here.
If Baker thinks that’s gonna sail through without litigation… well, knowing the NCAA’s track record, he probably does.

UPDATE #2: Here’s a minor clarification from the NCAA…
Woo, baby. FSU and Clemson may have just found their ACC exit strategy.

Kirby’s post-game speech after the loss is something.
His emotions are clear and powerful. Helluva way to deliver the message.

We’re a couple of days past the selection committee’s determination and, weirdly enough, I’m not angry about the way Georgia was treated, but I sure am puzzled.
The Dawgs have opened as about a two-touchdown favorite over FSU in the bowl game. Take that for what it’s worth, but it does raise this question ($$) in my mind:
“One of the questions that we ask from a coaching standpoint is, ‘Who do you want to play? Who do you not want to play?’” CFP committee chair Boo Corrigan said. “We are looking at where we are today. Not where we were three weeks ago or eight weeks ago. [The former coaches] got a significant voice in the room. We went around and around late last night and came back again this morning to do it again. We came back with Florida State at No. 5.”
But if we’re going to introduce that factor into play, then why would the committee put Florida State ahead of Georgia in the same ranking? There’s not a coach in college football that would rather play Georgia than the Seminoles at full strength — much less in their current state.
You may think that’s of little import, but ask yourself where Georgia would rank if the committee had applied the same standard to the first four spots. I have a hard time seeing how the Dawgs wouldn’t be in the CFP if that was the measuring stick — which, of course, means Boo is full of shit. Not that I’m surprised, or anything…

Georgia’s fumble in the SECCG was brutal, to say the least. But you know what makes it even worse?
It was set up perfectly. If the execution had been there, the result would have been a big gain. Don’t believe that? Well, maybe this will change your mind.
Obviously, I blame Bobo.

Welp, there are no undefeated teams with a net ypp of 2.0+, so I had to go to Plan B. I looked at the net ypp for the field of undefeated and one-loss teams in the playoff hunt. They are as follows:
I used the lowest net ypp of the undefeated teams as a base line. That was Washington’s 1.68. I then struck the two one-loss teams that were underneath that figure. That gave me a final ballot of…
As a reminder, I’m not picking teams to flesh out a CFP field. I’m attempting to vote for the best teams in the country. I think running the table is a valid consideration and so is a net ypp over 2.0. Both are criteria that give weight to a meaningful regular season, which is how I believe you have to evaluate which teams are best.
I’m sure minds, reasonable or otherwise, will differ, but that’s how I went about my business this week.

Okay, I’m a glutton for punishment — I just organized this season’s bowl pool and sent the invites out. I do this knowing full well most of you are gluttons for punishment, too.
We’re in this together!
For those who don’t receive an emailed invitation, here’s the link where you can jump in and sign up to play.
Note that the games begin on December 16. If you don’t get your picks in in time, you don’t score.
Have at it, and may Gawd have mercy on your soul… or something like that.

Bud’s got a point here.
Although to call it the “height of hypocrisy” is probably a stretch. This is college football we’re talking about; there are lots of candidates for the position. But I digress.
