Les Miles says buh-bye to Ryan Perrilloux:
LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, who had legal and disciplinary problems throughout his college career, was kicked off the team.
Coach Les Miles said Perrilloux “didn’t fulfill his obligation as an LSU student-athlete.” Perrilloux was a backup to Matt Flynn for the Tigers, the defending national champions.
“Ryan was given every opportunity to be a part of this football team,” Miles said Friday.
That certainly makes things interesting in Baton Rouge this year, non?
I wonder if this will hurt RP’s standing with the ladies.
Seriously, it’s times like this I’m reminded that there are no depths to the stubbornness of some people. This kid had an opportunity to step into the limelight and set himself for a big payday in a year or so. And he had a coach and school that seemingly bent over backwards to enable that. Now, poof…
At least he got to go to the White House.

Gotta say I’m pretty shocked. I said earlier, short of Ryan burning down an orphanage on Christmas Eve, Les Miles wouldn’t have the cajones to do the right thing and get rid of him.
Very glad to say I was wrong.
I don’t get this kid. I don’t know how he can self-destruct like this and blow the best opportunity he’s ever had. So sad.
Hopefully he’ll finally learn his lesson and get his act together.

Not that I’m trying to come off as some Nostradamus here, but I had inklings the kid would be a monster of a discipline/personality problem from the moment LSU signed him.
On the other hand, the Texas Longhorns have gotta be feeling like they dodged one hell of a bullet.

Good for Miles, although he was a little late in taking action. RP has been a cancer since he first arrived on campus, and he continued to ignore the obvious consequences. At this point, Miles had little choice if he were to have any credibility with his team.
This will further damage his financial opportunity with the NFL as they now factor character issues in the equation (look what happened to Bowman in this recent draft.) LSU will overcome this, but it certainly tightens up the West race for 2008.
