Kiffin watch: live by the paycheck, die by the paycheck

The problem with hiring assistant coaches like they’re mercenaries is that sometimes they behave like mercenaries.

Who is FSU going to hire at DC?

Anyone else find it funny that two UGA grads will be coordinating defenses in the national title game, while we go to Shreveport because we have no defense?

      Kirby Smart.

Five questions about these two DGD coordinators, one comment on Shreveport and two stolen Aggie jokes:

      1. With all due respect to Muschamp, didn’t we beat his defense every now and then when he was DC at Auburn? How in the world did he get named to be the Jimbo Fisheresque Head Coach-in-Waiting at Texas? Was Sexton his agent?

      2. With all due respect to Kirby, isn’t Saban always the de facto DC at Alabama regardless of who carries the DC title?

      3. Didn’t Muschamp and Smart get their present jobs as a result of having been directly trained by Saban?

Things to do in Shreveport when you’re dead:

Rest assured and do not trouble yourself with past concerns about our leaky defense because like sands in the hourglass of the eternity since the West Virginia Sugar Bowl, it is water that has passed under our bridge of sorrows. Our defense and Rodney can take care of itself. We’re playing Texas A&M which I’m pretty sure will be our only Bowl opponent in history that does not have a winning record. The Aggies failed to kick ass this year like we did.

There was an Aggie that was down on his luck. In order to raise some money he decided to kidnap a kid and hold him for ransom.
He went to the playground, grabbed a kid, took him behind a tree and told him, “I’ve kidnapped you.”
The Aggie wrote a note saying “I’ve kidnapped your kid. Tomorrow morning, put $10,000 in a paper bag and put it beneath the pecan tree next to the slide on the north side of the city playground. Signed, An Aggie.”
The Aggie then pinned the note to the kid’s shirt and sent him home to show it to his parents.
The next morning the Aggie checked, and sure enough a paper bag was sitting beneath that pecan tree. The Aggie opened up the bag and found the $10,000 with a note. The note said, “How could one Aggie do this to another Aggie?” [Thanks to Nikki Ponce]

Shelby Metcalf, basketball coach at Texas A&M, recounting what he told a player who received four F’s and one D:
“Son, looks to me like you’re spending too much time on one subject.”

1- Texas was afraid Auburn was going to hire Muschamp away as HC. 2- Yes. 3- Yes.

P.S. I wouldn’t be so quick to discount the Aggies in the bowl game. They looked pretty good against Texas (at least for a while), the bowl game is the difference for them between a winning and a losing season and we’ll be playing the game 3 coaches short.

My only point here is that when you puff your chest out about stealing coaches from other programs by throwing money at them, don’t be surprised when that gets turned around on yourself.

I don’t necessarily see these coaches jumping just for money. My guess is that these guys got paid to go to UT, saw what Jr. is all about and got out at the first great opportunity that came their way. If that wasn’t the case, wouldn’t they have stuck around when the matched the pay?

It was just a comment senator, nothing more. Wasn’t really responding to your take, but the coaching change itself.

Very true Senator. I doubt Jimbo and Miles are sticking out their chests like Kiffin did.

Speaking of assistants….since UT just lost two of their asst coaches and recruiters…what are the odds they make a serious run at Garner…again? Does Richt announce his new DC after the bowl season is over? Is the supposed rift between Kirby and the UGA brass so big that they don’t even attempt to make a run at him?

    • TD, with regard to RG to UT, the rumor I’d watch is the one making the rounds now that Pete Carroll will go after Coach O and bring him back to USC.

If that happens UT will then have lost 3 assistants and their held together by gum staff will look awfully weak to recruits.

MDT, while an assistant may slough off from Lane every now and then like skin from a snake, i think it’s important to keep in mind that getting shet of an assistant would not seem to cause Lane to ever lose any of the ‘street cred’ that Little Wayne annoited him with. Therefore, i would expect that there would be no adverse effect on Lane’s superpower recruiting skills. Except in Pahokee of course. That’s now Eddie Gran’s exclusive territory.
