After reading what Mark Bradley and Jeff Schultz have to say about the recruiting classes for Georgia and Georgia Tech, I’m confused.

Bradley says I’m supposed to be worried about the fact that Rivals isn’t particularly impressed with the 2010 group coming to Athens.

When you get used to a school lighting up the recruiting board, it’s significant when it doesn’t. It’s significant when Georgia doesn’t land a single 5-star recruit. (That last happened in 2007.) It’s significant when an Auburn program in Year 2 under Gene Chizik lands 13 spots ahead of Georgia in Year 10 under Richt.

Schultz, however, says all that star stuff is overrated.

This is not to diminish the need for great athletes. But a college program makes the players, not the other way around.

Okay, now that I’ve removed my tongue from my cheek, let’s get past the silliness to make a few points about today’s developments and the AJ-C bloggers.

  1. It would have been nice for Bradley to acknowledge that the change at defensive coordinator that he championed had an effect on Georgia’s class.  Would it have been better for Martinez to stay and for one or two of the kids who retracted their verbals not to have done so?  I think we know what Bradley’s post would have read like if that were the case today.
  2. Something to keep in mind as you ponder the recruiting rankings:  Georgia signed the smallest class in the conference, by far.  (No other SEC school signed less than 21; Auburn signed 30.)
  3. David Hale gives us something else to factor in:  Richt says Richard Samuel will move to linebacker. Says he was “anxious to make that move.”
  4. Schultz makes a good point about Tech’s recruiting rankings – Johnson’s system is going to preclude signing certain types of top shelf talent on offense, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not doing an effective job putting a class together.
  5. That being said, that won’t explain Tech’s shortcomings in attracting defensive talent to the Flats.  You can knock Chan Gailey all you want (and, believe me, I do), but one thing he did an excellent job at was finding defensive talent.  It remains to be seen how that plays out, especially with Giff Smith’s departure.

If there’s a bottom line here, it’s that I can’t say I’m particularly surprised that Georgia’s incoming class doesn’t match the level of some of its predecessors, at least on paper.  A disappointing two-year run for the program, an unfair “hot seat” meme that no doubt made the rounds and a historic change to the defensive staff all contributed to that.  But as Paul notes, it’s not like a bunch of stiffs are coming to Athens this year.  Don’t let yourself get wrapped up in the departures so much that you lose sight of what kids like Jakar Hamilton will (hopefully) bring to the table.

UPDATE: Additional food for thought, via Hale:

1:41 PM — Garner: “We could have gone out and signed other guys if we wanted to meet that number and fill a quota.” Instead wanted players that would fit Grantham’s scheme.

1:42 PM — Richt on Grantham & Lakatos: “They really understand what they want and what they’re looking for, and they’re great evaluators.”

1:44 PM — Richt: “Timing of the hire, taking as long as it did, it did put a strain on these guys who had committed.”

********************************************************************

UPDATE #2: Bradley addresses my first point.

… We cannot know how good Da’Rick Rogers will (or will not) be at Tennessee, but we can know this: Georgia was never going to play for another SEC title with Willie Martinez coaching its defense. If firing Martinez and two assistants made for what recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner called “some difficulties,” that’s a trade-off worth making if in fact Todd Grantham, Martinez’s successor, is as clever as advertised.

Look, you dumb woofing jerks, stop flooding my e-mail box. I’m too busy looking at por…recruiting news to respond.

All I’m saying is that Richt was a stupid idiot who deserves to be tossed off a cliff, because he should have kept a cardboard cutout of Willie Martinez in the locker room. Just to fool the recruits into thinking Willie was still there.

Billy Donovan would have thought of it, because Billy Donovan is the best coach in the world, and the 2007 Florida Gators are the best basketball team of the last 25+ years*.

The AJC Sports Crew would be pissing in their collective pants with excitement if Tech had our recruiting class. That’s not a theory, I’ve been following recruiting long enough to remember Tech actually having a Top 25/30 class and I remember Bradley and Co. writing: “Techies: Lords of All They Survey” type articles, it is a joke but I guess they’ve got to keep the Tech fans reading.

Clearly some perspective is in order. Yes, recruiting is critical, but no, a team’s precise ranking in the services doesn’t actually affect anything, particularly when a small class is involved. If UGA was 30th, or something, I’d worry, but we did pick up 9 four-star recruits, which ain’t bad. Our average star-count was the same as UT’s. And you don’t have to be one of those people who act like recruiting doesn’t matter to recognize that Cizik and Dooley have a lot to prove as actual coaches.

The Da’Rick thing is overshadowing UGA’s Signing Day, and I have to say the defection was remarkably predictable. Aside from the BFF issue, I strongly suspect the kid finally looked at Georgia’s WR depth chart and concluded that he’d be spending 2010 riding the pines or wearing a red shirt. And few skill-position 5-stars–kids who expect to be instant college stars, and who are already counting their NFL money–are going to be happy with that prospect. I was surprised when we signed him in the first place.

We have some potential beasts in this class, but in the end, I’m more interested in seeing how the semi-new coaching staff deals with the Top Ten Recruiting Class Talent that’s already in Athens.

I’ll throw in a “drink the Kool-aid” post, take it for what it’s worth, but Richt’s “worst” signing class may have ben his best. 2001, 15th or 16th ranked, and we signed:

    Shockley
Pollack (Yes, we signed him in Richt’s first class no it wasn’t with Donnan)
    Davis
    Gibson
    Greg Blue
    Odell Thurman (I think)

And probably a few more, just what I could remember off the top of my head.

Point is … rankings/schmankings. I’m more encouraged with the revamped staff. What’s the point of bringing in top 10 classes if they’re instructed with MAC level coaching?

I agree about the coaches, but the rankings do matter. At 3.5 stars per recruit, we’re insignificantly different from UT, Auburn, and LSU. Even Alabama, at 3.62, isn’t that much higher than we are. Only Florida, at 3.88, is significantly higher than our class.

Overall, I think we’re better off with Grantham in charge of 3.5 star kids than with our old staff in charge of 3.7 star kids.

But saying, “Pollack wasn’t a 5-star, so who cares about 5-star kids,” isn’t the way to improve the program.

  7. Given the choice, I’d rather have Georgia’s coach and Georgia’s signing class than Auburn’s coach and Auburn’s signing class. I wonder which option Mark Bradley would pick. (For that matter, I wonder which one Auburn fans would pick.)

      True ‘nuf, that.

Can I offer a bit more perspective on this issue(with the caveat that I generally lean toward the “glass-half-full” in life)?

For the upcoming 2010 season (and spring football), we now have:

      (1) a head coach who must be itching to show exactly what he is still capable of on the field (in practice and in games) and, despite his 90 wins in 9 years, to “prove himself” to his staff, his players, and his fans;
      (a) and I think we all remember what happened the last time he felt that way (hello, Evil Richt);

      (2) an equally determined coaching staff made up of hyper-motivated new guys wanting to show their stuff as well as holdovers who may be feeling a little heat;

      (3) players who have even more to prove than in years past (simply because of the general feeling that these have been two “down” years) and who have been assured by the incoming DC that playing time will be based solely on merit (practice with your hair on fire and you play);

      (4) a bunch of incoming freshmen who will definitely want to show how the “worst recruiting class under Richt” can bust heads big-time; and

      (5) the “easiest” schedule we’ve had in quite a few years.

Not to get all “Circle of Life” on you, but sometimes the “down” can be good for you. If you’re always “up,” you can get complacent and feel entitled. Being “down” makes you re-focus on your goals and commit yourself to doing better – much, much better.

UGA is gonna surprise the hell out of a bunch of folks around the country on the football field this fall. Book it.

And watch Richt, Grantham, Garner, et al. get after it on the road to Signing Day 2011.

Big Picture – – I not only think our Signing Day is good substantively (i.e., we got some serious players), I think it’s good for us.

    Scott Bernarde,

    Thank you.

Demetre Baker sounds like a fish out of water at linebacker, and a very small one at that at 5 feet something and less than 195 lbs.

Brent Benedict is yet another injured player, and a serious injury. We have had quite a few of those, you know. Isn’t athletic another word for small OL ? You are certainly right Scott saying that our OL has underperformed, especially at blocking for the run and at falling on fumbles.

Michael Bennett sounds like a player who might get in a play after we have given up 29, 31 or 42 consecutive points and get to line up against our opponent’s 3rd string cornerback. I think we call running plays on those downs nowadays, don’t we ? I can hear the boos reigning down as I ask, we call running plays on those plays, right.

Brandon Burrows great another Defensive End, we signed 5 DE today, and another injured player we can nurse along. Best of luck Brandon. We are counting on you, even if you are a little undersized at DE, perhaps that’s why you haven’t played with your injury.

Marc Deas, an undersized inexperienced at his position, out of position, player. Good thing we have a good defense. 185 lbs. Defense. Can I get back to you on that ?

Jalen Fields top 250 player. Not sure I have heard that ever said about a player before Scott, that he is top 250. I have heard of top 50. Top 250. Well, another DE. We signed 5 DE today and Jalen Fields no one is sure what position he will play ? This might not be the best use for a 5th DE signing today. When you say he is almost 260 lbs., is that another way of saying he is slow and slotted for Defensive Tackle, if we feed him some corn-fed beef ?

Kenarious Gates still learning how to play football. Stole him from Kentucky. That’s where we are now in recruiting Number 100 player at his position. I guess that’s good right ?

Jakar Hamilton. Not usually a big fan of signing JUCO players to play 2 years and gone, but this is a good one. They usually are. In a class ranked barely in the Top 25 of every rankings, it normally inflates your rankings to sign good tough defensive players especially in the backfield. I have studied his words and we might have some issues here. Before our new Defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham could find his way to Athens from Dallas in 7-days, Jakar spoke up. You want to know the truth ? Jakar could be a problem with his mouth. And, he might not be very smart. Football player in a poor recruiting class ? Yes, he is that. Any baggage here Scott, because I think I hear some.

Kolton Houston 270 lbs OL. No I don’t think so. Scott, you say he needs work on his blocking techniques. Thanks for coming Kolton. Best of luck sir.

Ken Malcome running back who is slow you say Scott. You know we had some of the best running backs in the nation in the state of Georgia this year. We didn’t sign any of them after we scratched our collective heads on Offensive Coaching Staff trying to find someone, anyone who could run and not fumble behind the OL you said Scott was questionable at times. Yeah, like when we tried to run the ball except against very weak porous defensive lines such as Texas A&M and Georgia tek.

Hutson Mason is a work in progress. Why not call it like it is ? You mentioned 1 player earlier number 250 player you said, well Hutson Mason is not one of those, even. 3 Quarterbacks who none of them have any experience and are not ready to play all freshmen you say Scott ? Excuse me, we had no QB ready in 2006, in 2007 we said maybe our QB can be consistent promptly losing 2 of the games to start the season in our own division with losses to both, none in 2009 and now none in 2010. What’s different about this year ?

Dexter Morant. Pinch me. Did you say another Defensive End please Scott ? Is that all we gave scholarship offers to, DE ? Or was it that if any DE in the nation accepted, we took him ? Another DE ? 5 in one recruiting class at DE ? Trying to remember now, in the 1-gap 3-4, how many of these DE get to play at a time ? 6-7 and only 240 lbs you say he needs to bulk up. Skinny as a rail is not usually what you hear about a player who will play on the Defensive Line. String bean might about describe 6-7 and 240 lbs.

Alec Ogletree, great one. Play right now. Did he make us sign his runt of a twin who is 5 feet 9 inches tall ? I just don’t understand all that Alec. Can I say that sir ? Is it a sore spot ? Alec 6 feet 3 inches. Twin 5 feet 9 inches. Great Scott. There is something wrong with this picture.

    Alex.

    Covered that one.

Ronnie Outlaw. My God. 6’ 5” and 170 lbs ? Is he from Ethiopia ? Someone hand him a bowl of grits. This guy is malnourished. Sorry Scott. You say he needs muscle ? Have him put some rocks in his pockets.

Derek Owens. 5 feet 9 and 180 lbs. he weighs MORE than Ronnie who is a foot taller. Oh, we are going to have him defend the 6 feet 5 inch tall SEC receivers. Wonderful. Can we buy him a ladder ? Scott, please don’t tell us he has no speed. Short, slow and hey maybe he is Academic All-America ? Oh, no needs work jamming taller receivers with his lack of speed and someone on this “coaching staff” recruited Derek Owens to play in our secondary ? He’ll fit right in.

Garrison Smith. Good one. What’s that 2 I have said that about, so far ? A whole entire recruiting class and we have 1 Safety and 1 Defensive Tackle. Well, we need you son. Get out there and get after it. You will have a great NFL career, even if we lose to Florida again every year you’re here, and to the vols every other year and Kentucky a couple of times, and never get to play against one Final AP Poll Top Ranked Team in a Bowl Game.

T.J. Stripling, good one. Hey, we’re all the way up to 3 now. Lost 7 defensive starters, our Quarterback, never really settled on a Running Back all year last year playing favorites and redshirting or trying to our best running backs while he can’t figure out who can run behind our OL without fumbling, and our 1 wide receiver on the whole team in years is gone to the NFL after this season after being injured for almost the entire second half last year, and hey we have 3 shots at a great player in this recruiting class we’re up to now with TJ Stripling. Some dimwit in here told me he would never see the field. More on that later when he hits the field, right ?

Mike Thornton. Where the hell did we get him from ? Hey great. 1 wanted another DL player with Garrison Smith. This is good news. Thanks Scott.

Scott, sir, it is a down year.

    Our worst recruiting class ever.

8-5 Shreveport bowl game year against a team who doesn’t even have a winning record, and no defense, unranked in the AP and Coaches’ Polls.

Lost several to the NFL again.

Now this. No one at recruiting Signing Day.

    God Almighty.

What’s up is that the recruits in this Sovereign State of Georgia hear all the boos reigning down on our Offense. We did well on defense this year.

No offense recruits. What’s up with this ? Uh. Not the boos but the poor Mike Bobo play calls and WASTED TALENT.

Is that it Scott Bernarde ? No more Signings ?

    It’s hard to believe.

    In this state of Georgia.

    Damn it.

After an 8-5 Shreveport year we Lost to Florida again, Lost to the vols again, Lost to Okie State even Houston beat, Lost to LSU again (Did we lose to the entire SEC?) and hey after we Lost to Kentucky another of those 6-Loss teams we lose to nowadays in the DOWN UGA FOOTBALL PROGRAM.

The way you wrote your post almost caused me to have aneurysm. Take a deep breath, step away from the recruiting message board, and YouTube highlight packages.

This is why I don’t over analyze recruiting season. Yes, it helps to have talented players. However, there are so many variables (injury, coaching, distractions) to take into account before labeling a class a bust.

Give it time to simmer. IMO, the best recruit UGA received was Grantham.

But here is my beef. Families of recruits, alums, booster find it tough in these economic times. But, the Athletic Board approves a pay increase for Evans. Since he has been AD show me where there has been any improvement in the big 3 of the men’s programs. Not in their records for sure. And it does not look like there will be a big turn around in those programs for awhile. Please explain to me how they justified that expenditure.

I hear a lot of excuses for this recruiting class, but what is clear is that we have recruited far better every other year, and it is just as clear that we have wasted that talent with an inexperienced poor coaching staff on both sides of the ball offense and defense and on special teams for 10 years now.

3 losses a year including more than 2 Top 10 Final AP Poll SEC teams, and 1 UNRANKED team in the Final AP Poll Top 25 every year for a Decade now.

In 14-game seasons now, we have had more than 11 wins just 1 time in this Decade.

Note that we have accomplished this 3-8 vs Top 10 Final AP Poll SEC teams and 17-19 vs Top 25 Final AP Poll teams in the 9-Year Coach Richt Era with GREAT RECRUITING.

Now, the recruits do not listen to us any more but to the negative recruiting against us, and we sign exactly 0 impact players on the Offense, who it seems cannot line up and run a play without a penalty, or if they do either fumble or throw an interception. 4 very good opportunities to fully expect All-America type players on Defense. That’s good, but why can’t we sign any top Offensive Players ? We didn’t get them on Offense last year and now we don’t get them on offense again this year.

There is no way you can blame the recruiting class on the AJ-C.

    Biased ?

    Yes they are.

They have been you say for 40 years, and it has been longer than that by my reckoning; but we have recruited far better every year of this 10-Year Coach Richt Era now this year, so what the AJ-C has said has not only not affected us in the past, but it is the exact same comments everyone is saying including all of us that this class is not good.

We are Officially now in Decline.

With great recruits, we were less than stellar against the Top 10 Final AP Poll Opponents in The SEC at 3-8 in the Coach Richt Era. We also were 17-19 vs Top 25 Final AP Poll teams. And, threw in for good measure 8 Losses to UNRANKED teams, one a year, in addition.

Now, we cannot recruit for the Offense to save our souls.

But, all we needed was to fire Willie Martinez.

We have to have an 11-year NFL veteran coach the defense but the offense can all be coaching out of position with none of them 1 day in the NFL coaching and the entire Sanford Stadium booing the play calls on Offense.

Do you think just maybe that the players, the recruits, and not the AJ-C have made a statement to UGA to all of us Bulldog Fans that our Offense is wasting talent, calling poor play calls, and not preparing our players to play and that therefore the Offensive Players in this state and beyond do NOT want to play on Mike Bobo’s FAILED OFFENSE ?

      You lost me here.

Two solid QB prospects (though I admit they haven’t done anything for us yet)

      Charles who’s had an impact

Ealey who’s had great impact (I wanted to show the number of fumbles he had compared to the rest of the team, but I can’t find a single site that shows individual fumbles…)

      Wooten who’s made an impact

Branden Smith has made some plays (though I don’t think we’ll see him on offense too much)

Marlon Brown is a top recruit

What do you want them to do?

When Stafford started playing in 2006, we weren’t bad off and Stafford didn’t have the weapons that Murray/Mett will have. Too be honest, I’ve always thought Stafford played with a chip on his shoulder and above his means, so I expect Murray (assuming he gets the start) to protect the ball more than Stafford did.

Ealey will continue to get better around an OL that’s all returning and progressed as the season did. Were the DLs they faced weaker? Probably. Does that confidence mean absolutely nothing? No way.

Charles and Wooten were just getting started last season. They’ll have another spring practice under their belts and be even better.

One of the biggest problems I’ve had with our offense the past few years is not with Bobo, but the people under center. Joe Cox was a great guy, but he didn’t have the time nor the talent in his favor to excel. Stafford had great talent, but he’s so cocky, you never know what kind of ridiculous throw he was going to try to make. Watch him in the NFL and you see the same thing. He doesn’t protect the ball, but instead tries to make all these miracles happen that blow up in his face. I saw it first hand for several years. Yes, his interceptions were relatively low, but the ones he threw were both stupid and as costly a throw could possibly be.

However, with Murray, I’m expecting a mix between the two. I’ve never met him, but people I know that have say he’s a humble and great person. I predict a formula of talent and smarts that translate into wins, even in the clutch.

And please don’t forget about Samuels move to LB. He was a great athlete, but his biggest problem was holding onto the ball. Now that he’s freed of that responsibility, what’s not to love from a previous 5 star athlete now looking to make hits?

    LSU

    MIAMI

    MICHIGAN

    PITTSBURGH

    WEST VIRGINIA

    AUBURN

AND AT GEORGIA, WE THROW HIM THE FOOTBALL 10 TIMES.

    10 PASSES

    IN A 13-GAME SEASON.

    DAMN IT.

PLEASE QUIT TRYING TO DEFEND THIS COACHING STAFF ON OFFENSE.

    WE SUCK AT TALENT EVALUATION.

    WE PLAY FAVORITES.

THERE IS NO WAY ANY OF THE 3 DOZEN SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS Rantavious Wooten GOT WOULD HAVE ANY OF THEM THROWN ONLY

10 PASSES TO ALL SEASON LONG.

    B.S.

Branden Smith has made some plays (though I don’t think we’ll see him on offense too much)

AGREED ON HIM TOO, GUESS THE ISSUE SINCE YOU HAVE ALREADY ALLUDED TO IT WITH BRANDEN SMITH.

    2 PASSES FOR 7 YARDS.

13-GAME SEASON, TOP RECRUIT IN THE NATION.

    SPEEDSTER WITH OLYMPIC SPEED.

AND, WE DESIGN OUR OFFENSE TO THROW BRANDEN DAMN SMITH 2 FOOTBALLS FOR 7 YARDS RECEIVING.

    B.S.

    WE DID RUN HIM.

    HELL WE RAN EVERYBODY.

ANYTHING TO NOT PLAY WASHAUN EALEY.

Marlon Brown is a top recruit

    GREAT SCOTT MARLON BROWN.

SERIOUSLY, YOU PICK THESE GUYS OUT SPECIAL FOR ME ?

EVERY SINGLE PLAYER I USE AS AN EXAMPLE OF

    WHY YOU

SHOULD NOT COME TO UGA ON OFFENSE

RECRUITS DON’T COME TO ATHENS NOW THIS YEAR.

NO MEANINGFUL RECRUIT BECAUSE OF EVERY PLAYER YOU HAVE NAMED HERE.

GUESS HOW MANY PASSES WE THREW TO THE NUMBER 1 RECRUIT IN THE STATE OF TENNESSEE AND THE NUMBER 2 WIDE RECEIVER IN THE NATION ?

    2 PASSES FOR 15 YARDS.

    GOD ALMIGHTY.

IF THERE EVER WAS A POSTER BOY FOR WHY YOU SHOULD NOT COME TO UGA ON OFFENSE, MARLON BLOODY BROWN IS HE.

MAYBE YOU DIDN’T READ ALL THE CRAP HE GAVE THE OFFENSIVE COACHES DURING THE SEASON THAT THEY DIDN’T THROW HIM THE DAMN BLOODY BALL ?

EVERY RECRUIT IN THE NATION READ IT.

    I READ IT.

    DA’RICK ROGERS READ IT.

What do you want them to do?

    HOW ABOUT USE THEM ?

    COACH THEM ?

PUT IN THE DAMN GAMES ?

    START THEM ?

THROW THEM THE DAMN FOOTBALL ?

NOT WAIT UNTIL 3RD QUARTER OF THE 5TH GAME TO DECIDE TO RIP THEIR REDSHIRT OFF.

OR WORSE YET, PLAY THE BEST RB WE HAVE HAD IN 3 DECADES 2 YEARS.

    2 YEARS.

LOOK AT MARLON BROWN AND TELL ME WE NEEDED TO THROW 2 PASSES TO HIM FOR 15 YARDS AGAINST THE VOLS ?

When Stafford started playing in 2006, we weren’t bad off and Stafford didn’t have the weapons that Murray/Mett will have. Too be honest, I’ve always thought Stafford played with a chip on his shoulder and above his means, so I expect Murray (assuming he gets the start) to protect the ball more than Stafford did.

    MURRAY IS NOT READY.

WE DIDN’T GET MATTHEW STAFFORD READY EITHER.

WE CERTAINLY DID NOT GET ZACH METTENBERGER OR AARON MURRAY READY FOR THIS SEASON, AND THE REPORTS ARE THAT AARON MURRAY DID NOT PRACTICE. HE MADE GREAT GRADES.

WE DID NOT GET JOE COX READY.

WE CERTAINLY HAVEN’T PREPARED LOGAN GRAY AND NOW AFTER 5 YEARS IN THIS FAILED OFFENSE, THEY SAID THEY ASKED HIM TO PLAY WR.

    THIS WAS FUN.

WANT TO MAKE MY POINT FOR ME SOME MORE ?

    THANKS.

Ealey will continue to get better around an OL that’s all returning and progressed as the season did. Were the DLs they faced weaker? Probably. Does that confidence mean absolutely nothing? No way.

    OFFENSIVE LINE ?

    GOOD LORD.

WE HAVE SQUANDERED OUR SCHOLARSHIPS ON THE OL FOR 10 SEASONS NOW.

FIRST, WE GET 7 GUYS IN 1 CLASS AND GO THE NEXT 4 YEARS WITH 2 EACH.

THEN, WE GET 6 GUYS IN A CLASS ON THE OL.

NEXT YEAR, WE GET 7 OL.

THEN, BACK TO 2 EVERY YEAR.

OUR OL HAS SUCKED BLOCKING FOR THE RUN. ALL COMING BACK ?

WE HAVE 6 OL WHO ARE JUNIORS AND 2 IN EVERY OTHER CLASS.

Charles and Wooten were just getting started last season. They’ll have another spring practice under their belts and be even better.

IF WE START THEM AND NOT PLAY FAVORITES, WHICH I HAVE ZERO CONFIDENCE IN BASED UPON THEIR B.S. FAVORITES THEY PLAYED STARTING OTHERS AHEAD OF THESE VERY GUYS YOU BRING UP WHICH PROVES MY POINT THAT ON OFFENSE, WE NEED AN 11-YEAR NFL VETERAN AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR.

One of the biggest problems I’ve had with our offense the past few years is not with Bobo, but the people under center. Joe Cox was a great guy, but he didn’t have the time nor the talent in his favor to excel.

EXCUSE ME. JOE COX WAS SICK. HE ALSO HAD A SHOULDER THAT NEEDED SURGERY. WE RECRUITED 2 QUARTERBACKS LAST YEAR. 2. 2 IN A CLASS THAT INCLUDED 5 OFFENSIVE RECRUITS (6 PERCENT OF 85 SCHOLARSHIPS.) I SAID THIS TIME LAST YEAR PUT ZACH METTENBERGER ON THE FIELD AND PLAY HIM IN GAME ONE. EVEN WITH THE FLU, EVEN WITH THE SHOULDER INJURY, OUR OFFENSIVE BRAIN TRUST PUT JOE COX OUT THERE WHEN WE HAD TO FLY HIM TO THE GAME IN A PRIVATE PLANE. ZACH SHOULD HAVE PLAYED. NOT REDSHIRT.

HIS INTERCEPTIONS AND FUMBLES IN COLLEGE AT UGA WERE 51.

SAME NUMBER AS HIS TD PASSES 51.

NFL IS NOT LOW NUMBERS EITHER, BUT THE WORST IN THE LEAGUE.

    4 FUMBLES

    20 INTERCEPTIONS

    13 TD PASSES

    QUARTERBACK RATING 61

IT DOESN’T GET ANY WORSE THAN THAT.

    WE TAUGHT HIM NOTHING HERE.

However, with Murray, I’m expecting a mix between the two. I’ve never met him, but people I know that have say he’s a humble and great person. I predict a formula of talent and smarts that translate into wins, even in the clutch.

    FRANCOIS-MARIE AROUET DE VOLTAIRE (1694-1778).

“MAN NEVER IS, BUT ALWAYS TO BE BLEST.”

WHY IS THAT WHEN WE HAVE NOT GOTTEN ONE SINGLE QB READY TO PLAY SINCE DJ SHOCKLEY IN 2005 FIVE YEARS AGO NOW, THAT I AM TO BUY IN ON THE FACT THAT A GUY WHO DIDN’T PRACTICE IS NOW READY TO STEP IN ?

    WE HAVE 3 FRESHMEN QUARTERBACKS.

LOGAN GRAY SENT OR ASKED TO GO TO WIDE RECEIVER.

    NO OTHER QB.

DID YOU GET THIS PICTURE YET ON OFFENSE ?

    SUMMARY :

    (1) 3 FRESHMAN QB
    (2) NO ONE ELSE
    (3) NO QB READY SINCE DJ SHOCKLEY 2005

DO YOU MIND IF I WAIT AND SEE HOW THIS WORKS OUT WITH 3 FRESHMAN QB ?

I RECALL MATTHEW STAFFORD AS A FRESHMAN QUARTERBACK FOR UGA. HE WAS GOD AWFUL, AND HE WAS THE NUMBER 1 DRAFT PICK IN THE FIRST ROUND WITH OVER $40 MILLION DOLLARS GUARANTEED.

    FRESHMAN QB MATTHEW STAFFORD :

10 FUMBLES MATTHEW STAFFORD 6 LOST FUMBLES 2006

    13 INTERCEPTIONS MATTHEW STAFFORD 2006

7 TD PASSES MATTHEW STAFFORD 2006

13 GAMES PLAYED MATTHEW STAFFORD 2006

And please don’t forget about Samuels move to LB. He was a great athlete, but his biggest problem was holding onto the ball. Now that he’s freed of that responsibility, what’s not to love from a previous 5 star athlete now looking to make hits?

RICHARD SAMUEL COST US THE GEORGIA tek GAME WHEN HE FUMBLED AT OUR GOAL LINE AND GAVE THEM THE WINNING POINTS.

RICHARD SAMUEL IS THE A FAVORITE OF OUR COACHING STAFF, ANYWAY.

RICHARD SAMUEL STARTED ALL THE FIRST 6 GAMES OF THE SEASON AS OUR STARTING TAILBACK EVEN THOUGH HE HAD LONG SINCE PROVED THAT NO ONE ON OUR OFFENSIVE COACHING STAFF COULD TEACH ANYONE HOW TO HOLD ON TO THE FOOTBALL WHEN CARRYING IT.

    IT’S NOT JUST RICHARD SAMUEL.

NO ONE CAN TEACH ANY OF THEM HOW TO HOLD A FOOTBALL.

    THEY DON’T KNOW HOW.

WE HAVE LED THE NATION IN FUMBLES EVERY YEAR.

WE HAVE LED THE NATION IN INTERCEPTIONS EVERY YEAR.

WE HAVE LED THE NATION IN PENALTIES EVERY YEAR.

BY THE WAY, AFTER OUR OFFENSIVE BRAIN TRUST FIGURED THAT AFTER WHAT THEY SAW IN THE GEORGIA tek LOSS THAT RICHARD SAMUEL WOULD REPLACE KNOWSHON MORENO WHO THEY ALSO COULD NOT FIGURE OUT TO EVEN PLAY, BUT REDSHIRT SO WE GOT TO SEE HIM 2 YEARS ONLY. AFTER THAT IT TOOK 6 GAMES TO FIGURE OUT, WELL MAYBE BuLLdawg IS RIGHT, MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE STARTED WASHAUN EALEY. AFTER THAT WHEN WE LOST ALL THOSE GAMES IN THE 1ST 6 GAMES WITH RICHARD SAMUEL FUMBLING AND GETTING NO WHERE BEHIND AN UNDERPERFORMING OL, AND BEHIND A SICK AND SORE-ARMED QB WHO COULDN’T EVEN PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAY BECAUSE OF HIS SHOULDER NEEDING SURGERY WE DIDN’T GIVE HIM. EVEN THEN, AFTER THAT, WASHAUN EALEY DID NOT GET TO START.

WASHAUN EALEY, OUR TOP TAILBACK STARTED 2 GAMES.

    TRY TO KEEP UP PLEASE.

    IT’S A FIASCO.

2 GAMES OUT OF 13 WASHAUN EALEY IS THE STARTER.

AND, NOT EVEN THE LAST 2.

GOD ALMIGHTY IS ALL I CAN SAY.

14 GUYS FUMBLED THE FOOTBALL 22 TIMES 2009.

22 FUMBLES BY 14 DIFFERENT PLAYERS.

DOES THAT SOUND LIKE COACHING ?

    DUH.

    IT’S NOT RICHARD SAMUEL.

IT’S THE WHOLE TEAM BECAUSE WE HAVE NO COACH COACHING THE POSITION THEY PLAYED WHEN THEY PLAYED FOOTBALL.

WE HAVE A GUY WHO WAS A TOP RUNNING BACK AS A COACH.

    HE COACHES THE WIDE RECEIVERS.

WE HAVE A GUY WHO WAS A TOP WIDE RECEIVER AS A COACH.

HE’S COACHING YOU GUESSED IT RUNNING BACKS.

WE HAVE A QB COACHING TIGHT ENDS AND THEN WONDER WHY IN GAME 12 OF A 13 GAME SEASON, THAT ORSON CHARLES IS THE STARTER.

WE HAVE A QB COACH FROM JACKSONVILLE STATE 1 YEAR, WHO IS OUR OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR.

WE HAVE A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR WITH 11-YEARS EXPERIENCE IN THE NFL AND PAY HIM $750,000 A YEAR 3RD HIGHEST IN THE NATION.

BUT, WITH NO ZERO NONE NADA IMPACT PLAYERS RECRUITED TODAY FOR 2010 ON OFFENSE, WE DO NOT NEED TO DO A THING WITH THE OFFENSIVE COACHING STAFF.

    JUST FIRE WILLIE MARTINEZ.

    • You can TYPE IN FURIOUS ALL CAPS all you want, “Thomas Brown,” but at the end of the day, you know what your little 5,000-word essays get you? A bunch of actual Dawg fans laughing their asses off at you.

Keep it up, though. Right up.

      1) You said I was wrong because what I said was right? Thanks.

      2) I have to agree about you typing so much, but saying so little. “Starting” has little to no impact on what actually goes on during the game. Who cares who starts? You said yourself that Ealey didn’t get a single carry until the 2nd half of the 5th game and only started 2 games. Guess who had the most carries for our team last year. Did it matter who started?

      3) There’s a certain wide receiver on our team that most people would say is pretty good. AJ Green was a freshman in 2008 and guess which WR had the most yards and tied for the most TDs in 2008. Now I don’t know what goes on in practice, but you’ve got to believe that the coaches are evaluating talent and determining who is the most game ready. It’s the same deal with a recruit, the way they practice and the way they play can be totally different. We ran a freshman back a few times in the OSU game. Why choose him over Ealey? Roll of the dice? Favorites? Einee-meenie-minie-mo?

Please don’t respond, you’ll probably just say a lot of stuff in capital letters and it would be to the benefit of all the Senator’s readers that we don’t have to suffer through any more of that. If you HAVE to respond though, try to do it in a reasonable manner. More people will listen, I promise.

you win titles with depth on the lines and we are closer every year to developing that.when you are already loaded at qback(murray was 2nd behind usc qback last year)running back and receivers, the next year’s class will not look as flashy but we got substance ,fla. lost a lot more players to grad. look at our roster for next year and we still have many underclassmen starting.thomas brown is an idiot!
