Less glitz at G-Day

Herbie’s not coming this year.

G-Day time, TV: UGA announced that the G-Day intra-squad football game on April 10 will start at 2 p.m. and be televised on CSS.  Georgia’s home baseball game vs. Ole Miss on that day will be moved to 4 p.m. to accommodate fans who want to attend both events.

Somebody on the dawgpost heard that they were only allowing season ticket holders to the G Day game. Surely this isn’t true. Can we verify this?

Nope. It’s a charity fundraiser. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. The attendance record for a G-day game is just over 30k, so we would need to triple that before we start thinking about limiting attendance.

I like the way they schedule it… definitely would like to attend the baseball game afterward. If you’re going to Athens you might as well make a day of it.

Anybody know when tickets will go on sale? I much prefer ordering them ahead of time.

Just glad someone is televising it that day so I can tape it and watch that night before the next day’s articles scrutinize it in depth. Wish CMR would take heed that attendance would increase if he would just choose any other weekend. It is a fun game, and a nice way to spend a Spring afternoon.

I know the questions for next year primarily revolve around the defense, but the only one that will probably be answered is the QB battle. I don’t think CMB will go into summer without making a decision on QB again.

Mac, barring catastrophic injuries to two of the three QB’s, it’s hard for me to think of any way CMB or CMR would officially name a starter among the three until mid-August at the earliest even if they know who the #1 guy is after Spring practice.

Otherwise, how else would CMB and CMR keep all three properly motivated and stop one of the two redshirts from transferring? Doubt that Richt can pull off another D.J. Shockley miracle of not transferring. As an example, when Quincy Carter named by Donnan as starter a couple of days before the ’98 opener,

You may be right, although I don’t see ZM backing off if he isn’t named #1 and I don’t see LG in the mix at the end of Spring (and I was a fan who looked forward to his stepping forward until I saw his play last season.) Assuming I am right about this being a 2 horse race, I feel one will be named the #1 QB coming out of Spring. Bobo has stated it was a mistake to share reps into August in 2006, so I feel the lesson has been learned. Certainly if the competition is very close, I doubt there is a leader named before early August. I don’t see either of the RS Frosh QBs leaving if they aren’t named the starter, bith know there is a chance the other may fail, or get injured. That is something I see more likely to happen if one of them lights it up Year 1 and the other realizes he may spend his career as a backup. I have no inside info but all reports are both of these men are dedicated, straight players, and ZM’s mother works in BM.

I had thought for awhile that it was Murray’s job to lose but I’ve certainly read good things about ZM so it ought to be exciting. My only thought about naming a starter between those two after Spring is that it could give one the ability to transfer before the start of next season. But you are most likely right that if any transfer occurs it would probably be after this season if one of them absolutely lights it up.

It seems that CMR is one of the best, if not the best, at dealing with QB’s on potential transfer issues. When he was at FSU, he seemed to have his QB’s lined up on the runway to start their junior and senior years on a regular basis without many of them becoming discontent and transferring.

The interesting alternatives are that if both are bona fide, as they each appear so far to be, use them interchangeably even more so than CMR did with Greene and Shockley at the minimum (an unlikely event) or at the extreme (a practically impossible event) send in each play by alternating QB’s as Spurrier did at Florida part of one season.

Agree with you. While I don’t see the rotating QBs like SOS did, Bobo did say he could accept a dual QB system, not scripted, if that was best for the talent we have. It should be an interesting spring, primarily due to this battle. A starter may not be named, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see one listed as the #1 going into August. Basrd on his comments, a decision should be expected in early August to get one of these players a majority of the reps. We may have a cupcake for an opener, but that is all the breathing room we have in September.
