Brat-gate turns out to have little bite, at least with regard to the football team.
Athens-Clarke County police said this afternoon that University of Georgia football players were not the offenders in a March 28 incident in a taxi van.
“One football player was in the taxi, but the investigation revealed he acted as a peace maker and tried to calm the situation,” Athens police said in a statement. “The other males have been identified as residents of Heard County and warrants are pending. Additional information will be released when the warrants are issued.”
That “peace maker” bit sounds funny to me. Whoever that kid is, his new nickname should be “Peacemaker,” in reference to this thing:

Also, they sky is falling:

It’s an illusion.

Wow. What a relief.

While the peacemaker business would normally sound a bit fishy (if say, the incident occurred in some other college towns which will remain nameless), history leads me to believe that if the football player had anything at all to do with it, the A-CC police would have charged him with something.

What in the H does this have to do with the playoff debate? 😉

Can we safely assume that it was Dontavious Jackson in the vehicle?
I hope that the exoneration gets as much national media attention as the original story, but I won’t hold my breath.

this reminds me of when charles grant got arrested. he was initially charged with solicitation (for $20 i get what?). he was later charged with pandering (for $20 everyone in the car gets what?).
the benefit of others has always been in our players’ hearts.

Breaking news from the AJC: Mark Richt still does not have control of the team.

I am glad this played out the way it did. Especially given the media was so calm during the preliminary stages of the matter.
One wonders why they were not so reticent during the Duke Lacrosse player incident?

Well, the obvious difference in the Duke matter was that the players were actually indicted.

Incorrectly so, it would appear.

No doubt, but you were questioning why the press jumped in to start with.

I think the press was all over the Duke case long before there were any arrests.

Appears everything is being handled correctly by the police & by CMR. Glad to see it being resolved. Does not surprise me since that always been the result(s) in the past..Proud to be an old Dawg.

Considering that our players are usually arrested once a week, it shouldn’t surprise people that the allegations could have been true
I never said anything about it though I thought they were probably true (though kept it to myself unlike others)

Thank goodness. We really couldn’t have any more players kicked off the team without it causing a problem in the fall.

The football player was still in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. He dodged a big one this time but he needs to go to bed by 11:00 PM since it is during spring practice. Maybe he was just a walk-on.

1. I thought that the cab driver indicated that he supposed football player was named “Derek”?
2. I have not heard that the peacemaker was “friends” with the folks from Heard County.
3. Is not possible that the football player just hitched a ride from downtown in the taxi van and happened to get in at the same time as these other folks?
4. Now that it has been reported that no one from the football team is in trouble for this incident, one needs to compare Richt’s handling of the media vs. ole Urban. Obviously Richt did not like the way the press insinuated the football players were involved. But yet, he made no threats against the media for reporting the “facts” of a misinformed individual. If this was Gainesville, Urban probably would have burned the newspaper to the ground and eaten the hearts of reporters.

Where is Kimberly Nash and the Bleacher Report gang? Well said Coach Richt. Like Coach Richt said once before, some people have been in the arena and some have not. Maybe the latter simply need to buy a ticket, watch, and cheer when prompted by the cheerleaders.
Coach Perno must be going to the worst year of his life. Hang in there Coach Perno! These guys should play better than what they are. Coaching can only carry you so far. At sometime when the cleats hit the dugout and before you go on the field, you need to get 100% mentally into the game. These guys just can not do that. Mental toughness is something they lack. Only they can answer that. I’d think about that if I was on this squad.
