“When I was running the play I was asking myself why in the world we were running this play.”

Make sure you read Patrick Garbin’s post about one of my favorite games of the Georgia-Florida series.  It’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

That defensive play was symbolic for the 1976 defense, gang tackling and swarming to the ball. I recall there was only one starter heavier than 230 pounds. No way a slow white boy like Johnny Henderson is supposed to run down Earl Carr. Notice how he adjusted his angle a few steps before the grab.

I was there and it was exciting but nobody thought UF would go for it. Karma is a bitch and we have been paying for Dooley’s luck for 20 years now.

I don’t care what happened later: Goff always will be a Damn Good Dawg.

And, by the way, remember those “shakers” of crepe paper stapled on wooden dowels? You could kill with those things.

that was my first UGA-Florida game attended. Wes Chandler of Florida was absolutely killing us in the first half, and Florida (if the mists of time havent confused me) ran an interception almost all the way back late in the first half, leaving Chandler just enough time to reach out and spear a catch for a TD before halftime.

For you younger UGA fans, this is what it was like to go down there and know you were going to win, no matter how good or how talented or how fired up they were. We knew it, they knew it. UGA expected to win, Florida expected us to win, and we usually did. Spurrier managed to flip the psychology of the series. We’ve had a rough time of it the last 20 years, but so has everyone else they play. There’s no reason we can’t get the upper hand back, but first we have to stop going down there making excuses and hoping we can win. Spurrier didnt let Florida hope they could win. Neither did Dooley let UGA hope they could win. We have to believe, they we have to make it happen, not watch what happens.

Good open field tackle by Johnny Henderson. That’s how you tackle a stiff arm. Did you see the entire sideline run out on the field after that play? That can’t happen anymore. Mr. Wagers would of chalked up 50yrds of flags.

Can’t get enough. And by the way, I’m pretty sure the girl just past the 4:00 mark is singing “and to hell with Georgia Tech.” Good girl.

Johnny Henderson was a stud. When I was in high school I worked with Squab at every home game. (Yes, I was an understudy waterboy.)

One game – I can’t remember who we were playing – Johnny blocked a punt, but the kick dislocated three of his fingers. Dr. Mulherin stuck Johnny’s hand in an ice bucket and then reset all three fingers right then and there. Wasn’t until halftime that he got them taken care of properly, but he didn’t miss a play.

That’s what being a Junkyard Dog was all about.

    Woof!

I hate that we have to watch 30 year old clips to try and remember a time GA vs. FLA wasn’t so miserable of a series. 😦
