Ladies and gentlemen, your new SEC football officiating coordinator is Steve Shaw, a proud graduate of the University of Alabama.
Somehow, this doesn’t sound nearly as impressive as Shaw probably thinks it is:

Best what; crooks? Fathers? Bowlers?
Because I damn sure know he didn’t mean best refs.

I hear what you’re saying, but Steve Shaw is the most fair ref in the SEC, if not in all of college football. He’s a good man & he’s always conducted himself as such. Congratulations to him & good riddance to Redding.

I’ve never had a real problem with Shaw, and I guess he pretty much was forced into that statement by Slive. Could be worse (Penn Wagers)…

I agree that Shaw is one of the better SEC refs, so I guess he’s a good pick. But that just means he won’t be on the field anymore, which leaves room for Penn Wagers’ unemployed brother-in-law to get a job. Bummer.

I am really pleased with his selection. He always impressed me as being a straight shooter and I never got the feeling that his crew ever was biased against UGA in calling games. Maybe this will result in fair officiating returning to UGA SEC games. Methinks he will not tolerate the Penn Wagers and Marc Curles of the world officiating in a one-sided manner. He might even clean house. Plus–he’s not a Techie.

Change. The most overused word in the dictionary. The SEC a decade or so ago had top refs. Redding and Wagers are pretenders.
By Thursday CMR will have good idea where his program is going. Let’s see if he is still excited. I do agree with Belue about recruiting. But do not fall into that trap of thinking you have to have all stars. Plus I have an idea, but can not post. His assessment of the D line could be accurate. If I’m a recruit in that area I’d look at the roster and the guys who will be playing behind me, the coaching staff, and the scheme. When you see an Alex Ogletree and the returning LBs your motor should drive the RPMs over the red line. If talented and as a true frosh you could be in the high numbers in SEC. You will get to greet the opposing RBs and QBs on their side of the line of scrimmage.

From those of us who have seen the high explosive ordinance fall we agree with you CMR. It is very hard to blow anything up when your program is barely a fire cracker. The last time this program to blowing an opponent up was the Hawaii game, and that should have been a total annihilation. Very close to closing the book on UGA football like I did in the Goff era. When your HC says at a presser we are hiring a nutritionist.
When they get their asses handed to them by Boise, SC, MSU, UT, UF and Auburn next years, you can imagine what the opposing bulletin board will say. Coach that comment is part of the problem. Even if the program was going to do that I would not have commented but let it silently happen. S&C, a training table for meals, tutors, and whatever the mind can conjure up besides playing on the 100×53. Please post along with the buffet what the dawgs will eat this year. Thanks.

You lost me when you said “they” instead of “we”.
Changing our colors to pink and neon orange couldn’t make me stop being a dawg, though it’d be a shame to give up how good I look in those red pants. I have taught my sons to shout the battle cry of the redcoats after a loss and we’re walking out of a stadium: “Once a dawg, always a dawg. How sweet it is.”
Frankly, I don’t GET your kind of people. Be mad at the coach, but cheer like crazy in that dome on Sep. 3. If you can’t do that…turn in your “G” car tag.

I agree that Shaw is a great ref, maybe the best. He will be a good addition. The downside is that he will not be on the field anymore. Ahhh, progress.

Praise the Lord. Shaw is the only good ref in the SEC. When I saw him on the field I knew we were going to get an even shake. Now if we can just get Curles and Wagers fired may life could end happily.

I have no problem at all with that selection, he is the best in the SEC (not to set a low standard) and I hate that he will not calling games. But someone has to clean the mess up that Gaston and Redding allowed to happen. Just hope being near Slime doesn’t rub off on him. I am confident he knows better than what waas said in that statement. He was just taking one for the team to get in Birmingham where he could make a difference. The SEC has become the worst officiated conference in CFB, although the Big 11 made a run at them this past week.

Yeah, this is a double-edged sword. Glad for Shaw, he’s a good one. But hate that he won’t be on the field anymore.
