    Is this “rats jumping off the ship” or or a lateral move for a guy who is under pressure ’round here? Who can we hire who would think this may be a lame duck situation? Reminds me of when Donnan hired Gary Gibbs as DC. Gibbs D wasn’t bad but Donnan got fired after that year.

        Yep, just saw that. That raise makes Austin look really good!
        On our situation, some are saying Mac McWhorter…seriously??? Then again, we move Coach T back into S&C. Too bad Wayne McDuffie is no longer with us…RIP…

        Yeah, I don’t think UGA could justify matching that, not only to give him a substantial raise when output on the field has been where it’s been the past two years, but also having a position coach’s salary higher than his coordinator. The natives would be restless in both cases as well.

    Mack Brown is dragging a net through the SEC and Searels was one of the coaches caught in it. Hard to believe Searels was shopping around his resume after this season, but who knows.

    Position coaches are coaching for their jobs every year, so Richt’s situation probably has less to do with it than is being speculated. If you’re a good coach on a bad staff and the axe falls, you don’t stay unemployed long. If you’re a bad coach on a bad staff and the same thing happens, you go into trucking. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

    One of our OL recruits told the AJC, that Richt told him, that Richt’s phone was “blowing up” with coaches calling who wanted the job. Let’s hope that’s true, and that Richt chooses based on merit rather than convience.

    That’s the key right there. Richt’s biggest weakness has always been his lack of merit based judgement when it comes to coaches under him.

    Is there any way to throw Bobo into the deal as well? Surely Mack could use a little help on offense, right? 😛

    There was a pretty good hire on paper the last time we had an OLine coach leave for greener pastures. Let’s hope that continues (and maybe helps the run game too.)

    A blessing in disguise. Searels’ units may have occasionally overachieved but primarily underachieved. A qualified, merit-based hire will inject much needed new energy into arguably the most important unit on the team.

    Garner will be moved to OL coach ( the position he coached at Tennessee) and a new DL coach with 34 exp. will be hired. That’s what my sources are telling me (various crazy internet rumors)

    McDuffie was a very good coach and man. If you had to have a person on your side that could get it done this was the man.
    As I posted earlier. I like Trickett, Spencer, or Markuson. But if you want a fire brand, Carolina has the coach. My first choice would be Trickett, then Spencer. If I was an O line coach who wanted to make a name, I would not ask permission to contact, I’d be on the plane now.
    This late in the season it will take some $s, a coach that feels real good and solid where UGA is going [first evidence is this recruiting class, second is the AD, and someone who is convinced UGA is taking its football program to a very high level]. CMR maybe shutting the door again. Personally I think he is on a mission now. If there has been a weakness in UGA for me it has been the O line and a power running game. This hire will be a big factor for UGA, and in a way a great blessing for Searels to leave. CMR needs to put more coffee on and crank up the phones. 2011 is beginning to look damn good.

      Really? I don’t mean to be an a$$, but the only thing different than 2010 thus far is 4 unproven AJC Super 11’s, one less AJ Green, one less Justin Houston and a new O-Line Coach. How is this looking to be damn good? As for the power running game, I don’t think Searles was coaching the Running Backs.

      I had the same belief as you last year and the year before. Proof is in the pudding and I’ll believe it when I see it.

            all this talk about being “on a mission” is humorous but already becoming tiresome.

            a day late and a dollar short – the time for him to get his stuff together was after 2009 season or after the let down in 2008. Not when his job is (finally) on the line.

            We heard all this same bull (and i bought into it) in 2007 when we saw evil richt. Look at how things have gone since then…
