- I’m not sure how serious this will turn out to be, but wouldn’t it be a helluva black eye for college football if both teams that played for the last national title wound up being punished for recruiting violations?
- CFN’s spring practice look at Boise State includes this: “Spring attitude… Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, Georgia.”
- He may be an Auburn partisan, but Jerry Hinnen’s got excellent taste in SEC football venues.
- Matt Hinton takes a look at Aaron Murray and likes what he sees: “Based on the pace he set in his first season, though, he’d still get my vote as the best quarterback in the SEC going into the second.”
- In the wake of SI.com’s report on criminal behavior by college football players, it’s not terribly surprising that Stewart Mandel goes here. And quickly, too – his Montana buddies must be really perturbed.
- Paul Myerberg looks back at Georgia Tech’s 2010 season and finds that things went downhill in all the places where the Jackets’ best talent departed. Funny how that works.
- Travis Haney calls Spurrier’s decision not to sign Mauldin and Montgomery to LOIs “a calculated, smart move”.

Do you sense that Travis Haney could fit in quite well as Red and Black reporter? Someone must tell him that readers don’t respect waffling. Stand by your story, you wrote it and stop justifying what you write.
Just wish the Tavis Haney’s and Scott Morre’s of the world would disappear for awhile, they getting rather tiresome.

Guy is pathetic, doesn’t get why the world is against poor, innocent AubieCanes. Couldn’t have anything to do with the wording that ANYONE soliciting money on behalf of a player (yes, family is included in that) makes that player ineligible. That happened at Miss State, that player was Cam Newton, and The aU was advised. Knowing that, they chose to play him against everyone but Chattannoga, case closed. Ineligible=vacated wins, loss of SEC title, and should be some schollies, bowl sanctions (similar to USC). If phone tapes show other problems are involved with money/recruits, it would be nice for the NCAA to give them the death penalty for decades of cheating. We need to clean up CFB, and it should start with the poster child of scummy programs. Sadly, the SEC didn’t act on fairley the fairy so nothing will be done about that disgraceful exhibition of a program out of control. Thanks Slime.

-First is the admission by the school. Auburn declared Cam ineligible for violation by Cecil and asked NCAA to rule Cam eligible.

Doubt that many here are Tider Insider-ish for various reasons such as:
1. Have to think up and then remember a User Name.
2. Have to think up and then remember a Password.
3. Have to ask self why pay money to get to do #’s 1 and 2.
4. Never get involved in a land war in Afghanistan or Alabama.

Thankfully they chose to use a picture of Sanford Stadium when the stadium is not full due to the students still nursing hangovers from Friday night. Must have been one of those nooners against a Western Carolina or Idaho St and they are still in bed.

Unfortunately, there were several “nooners” to choose from in 2010. Games at that time will never show our best atmosphere.

As a visiting fan, my favorite games at Sanford have been the day games. They definitely enhance the experience.
It helps that I’ve typically sat in free, club-level seats.

Sorry, but I must object to your use of “students” here. The empty section is the fraternity section, and a good portion of them don’t really exhibit many qualities that would make them “students”. Blame the frat bros if you want, but the general student section is packed.

Can anyone explain payments to “recruiting services”?
I’m guessing this isn’t the same thing as Garner having an account with Rivals (“Hebron is a ‘Can’t Miss’, better offer him fast”).
IMHO it smacks of NCAA duplicity, but maybe there is some legit angle for paying “bird dogs” that I can’t come up with.

You can pay people for recruits’ personal information: name, phone number, address, relatives, relatives names, personality, coach’s information, etc. You can also pay for footage and highlights across the country. For example, Xos (don’t they do video for SEC games?) offers tapes from all across the country.
Oregon paid way too much for what they got from the one guy, unless he directed Seastrunk to them.

Though not part of this report, I just wonder if the Atlanta adventure of S. Garcia is more of a reward by some boosters for the once in a lifetime opportunity of reaching the SEC Championship. I cannot imagine what it could have been if they won it. The event seems to be as close to a XXX film if not more.

I thought Aaron Murray was incredibly good in every game but one last year, especially considering he was a rs freshman. But it’s that one game that really concerns me, and it was his last game.
It wasn’t just a mediocre outing, it was hideous. He was missing open receivers by 10+ yds.. Everyone has a bad game now and then but this seemed not only out of character but way off the charts for him.
I don’t get the feeling that many people are very concerned about this, and maybe I shouldn’t be either, but I’ll feel alot better when he has a good outing under his belt.
Unfortunately, unless you consider the G-day game a true test, his next real outing is vs. Boise State.
Here’s hoping it wasn’t AM in the UCF game at all but his evil twin brother or a stunt double, and that we’ll never have to see either again.

I thought something was wrong with Murray’s arm in the bowl game. He usually puts a lot of zip on the ball but did not in that game–and it seemed to worsen as the game progressed. The pass he threw into the endzone on the last play of the game was as bad a wounded duck as I have ever seen from a QB anywhere, anytime. Since UGA had no running game to speak of (courtesy of the O-line’s failure to block) that left the Dawgs in an offensive wasteland that the UCF defensive coaches picked up on and exploited. Hence, only 6 points scored against a C-USA team by an SEC team that had scored 30+ points numerous times against mostly SEC defenses. Let’s hope the arm trouble was only a temporary anomaly.

Haney is far from alone in what he’s doing. The SEC local beat is filled with people like Haney who will spin the very worst behavior of the coaches that feed them. To not do so is to face the wrath of the coaches and millions of fans, roadblocks to their careers in their given market, and much more.
