I like it. Murray has to be considered the best QB in the East.

Murray, only because I would prefer to build around a QB.

Aaron Murray, definitely.

Lattimore, without a doubt. You can hide a lot of deficiencies when you know you have a solid running game. See UGA O-line blocking deficiencies and Moreno, Knowshon for example.

You can have the best running back in the world and still suck if you don’t have a good QB. Example – Steven Jackson.

By the end of August, here’s hoping the answer is Big Bad John. Defense wins championships folks.

Get back to me on that question the end of this year. We’ll see if Murray has enough to win big.

Murray’s a no brainer if the question is posed as is: “Which player would you build your program around?” for a few reasons. You’d be looking at:
-age (you can’t build a program around a 1-year player, so you want someone young)
-experience (while you want someone young, you can’t choose an unproven commodity that has never played meaningful snaps)
-position/infuence (while a OG might be the best player on the field, they just can’t influence the game like a QB, RB, or DL can.
-excellence (obviously you’re looking for a great player)
So it’s not just the best player, but who can build around the best for the next few years. I’d choose Murray over Lattimore for a couple reasons:
-Murray’s likely to stay 3 more years and Lattimore only 2.
-Injuries. I’m just not sure Lattimore can stay healthy yet.
-I just think QB is more important.
I’m an old-school, I-formation guy that loves the tailback, but in this day and age, it is very rare to find an elite QB on a crappy team. It is much more common to find a 1,300 rusher on an average team. The best teams in the league last year were Auburn, Bama, LSU, & Arkansas. The best 3 QBs played on 3 of those teams. Oregon and Auburn had 2 of the best QBs in the land. I just think it’s a QB’s game right now.
Having said that, I’d like to think my answer by late September will be Mr. Crowell.

He certainly earned that last year. We’ll see how he does with this crop of receivers.

I can’t take anything away from Lattimore’s skills, but I have to go with Murray (even if Marcus is the better player). Here’s why:
A RB – even a dominant one – can’t influence a game on both sides of the ball like a QB can. A QB can slow a game down or speed it up, move the ball around from the inside out, and adjust to what a defense gives. Those factors stack the deck in favor of the QB so much that even a great RB will be challenged to overcome a merely excellent QB. The Goal Line Stalker could do it, but not many others.
Lattimore may be the best we’ve seen in a while (or he may be no better than Dyer, Knile Davis, or even Crowell), but a RB has to be way better than a QB to warrant building a team around him.

I’d say Jim Bob Cooter but he graduated so I’ll go with Murray.

The first two names I thought of were Murray and Lattimore. I’d take Murray simply because of position.

I would take Murray, but I prefer building a team from the inside out. No QB or RB can do it without the linemen.
