Recruits say the darndest things.

The Wall Street Journal, bastion of capitalism, asks a simple question and gets a simple answer.

… we asked recruits themselves what they’d like to be paid. Surprisingly, not all of the class of 2012’s top football and basketball prospects think they should get a paycheck that goes beyond scholarship-covered items… defensive tackle Quay Evans of Morton, Miss., said $200,000 a year would be an appropriate sum.  “We work hard,” Evans says.

200 grand a year?  Gee, that’s more than Cecil Newton wanted.

Damn, Quay! That’s QB money, not D-line money! Get a grip!

Lol…That would buy him about a half dozen homes in Morton!

I’m sure John Bond has kept up with inflation.

Now Quay, are you being ironic with that number or for serious?
Thank you ESPN (and various others) for these attitudes. Wonder what sum Pollack would have asked for coming out of high school?

Note to NCAA his name is Quay Evans and you can bet a years pay he will happily take whatever a Booster will give him.

Dear Quay, I also work hard. I don’t make $200,000 a year, and I didn’t get a free college education at the institution of my choice. It was also harder for me to get laid than it will be for you once you get to whichever campus you select. While I’m all for a stipend to cover living expenses for college players, and I’m also for college players getting a cut of any money made directly off of their names or images, your figure of $200,000 a year is laughable.

If you’re in a negotiation and have to throw out the first number, you better make sure it’s a big number.

Quay Evans is Cam’s cousin and Cecil’s nephew no doubt.

you’re right on the nose, Big Shock. You can negotiate down, but you can’t negotiate up. Maybe Cecil was selling Cam too cheaply; you have to figure a Heisman, an SEC title and a BCS trophy are worth more than a mere 180 large.
