I was hoping Mike Leach’s new book would drop a few bombshells and it looks like I won’t be disappointed.
… thanks to Texas Tech’s status as a state-funded institution, emails obtained through open records requests by Leach and his attorneys show a concerted effort by Craig James and paid agents of the ESPN analyst to materially impact ESPN’s editorial approach to Leach’s untimely departure from Texas Tech.
Leach reports in his new book that even before a complaint against Leach was lodged by Craig James regarding the coach’s alleged mistreatment of his son – former Texas Tech football player Adam James – Craig James had hired Spaeth…
Honestly, I don’t see how James’ and Leach’s respective careers as commentator and coach won’t suffer as a result of this. But in the meantime, the ride sure will be entertaining. Maybe we’ll get a movie out of it.

UPDATE: An exerpt about the Adam James incident is here. In case you’re wondering how it goes, well, “My biggest regret was not cutting Adam James.”
The movie will be called “Pirates & Ponies, A true story”

If Brad Pitt is starring in a movie about the general manager of the Oakland A’s, there’s no way that this WON’T be turned into a movie. Heck, it’ll probably be 3D.

Craig James is pure Texas scum. And as we know, everything is bigger in Texas.

This is going to turn into another Super Bowl XX for Mr. James!

Who would play Leach and James? Danny Devito as Leach?

I’d cast Mike Starr (Goodfellas & Dumb and Dumber) as Leach and get Steve Carell to play Craig James. I’d pay to see that.

I’d go with a younger Leach played by the fat guy and Craig played by McLovin

Now that’s excellent casting!

I see this as a “Dirty Work” reunion — Norm McDonald as Leach; Christopher McDonald, whom you know better as Shooter McGavin from “Happy Gilmore,” as Craig James.

I’m reminded of 2 sayings: (1) “Never wrestle with a pig–you both get dirty and the pig likes it.” (2) “There really is no such thing as bad publicity.” Let it go, Leach. Short of getting a judgment against James for $5 Million (the only thing you really can do to him) all you are doing is giving the guy more notoriety. ESPN has already established that it isn’t going to fire him. The public doesn’t give a sh!t that you got shafted.

I give a shit that any college coach gets shafted when a talking head from ESPN can influence the environment for and carry through with the dismissal. They are reporters and “analysts” (since I’m a scientist this misnomer for trash talkers makes it hard on the fingers to hit the keys–the mind keeps interfering) of events in sports ,not political tacticians of college coaching jobs. This is beyond reproach We should be influencing the advertisers to get rid of some of these jokers on tv. Maybe Leach should sue the advertisers for enabling such crap on ESPN.

CBS should put Leach on the 3:30 SEC games

He’s got some great comments. Unfortunately, CBS would have him mildly sedated before they’d ever let him do the Saturday 3:30’s though

Or he could mildly sedate himself with some of Mac’s favorite elixir.

I’d listen to him on both counts although he needs my favorite elixir of 100% agave tequila mixed with a little orange liqueur and a smidgen of agave nectar. It leaves you with the passion for hot speech, but with your mouth frozen slightly agape. I’ve dubbed it “The Poor Man’s Drambuie/Grappa”.

Can’t belive you just put up video of some crappy ACC team beating UCF.

I didn’t even watch the whole thing to know what the final score was until after I posted it. At least, when UCF loses to an ACC team, it’s going to be a loss to the longtime football powerhouse NC State. Thank goodness Gus Malzahn didn’t get Russell Wilson, though.

As entertaining as the argument is about James and Leach, the bigger issue in all this is TT’s claim of sovereign immunity. Why the hell would ANYONE sign a contract with them, regardless of what service/product they offer? I just cannot see how that can be upheld. And if it is not, I like Leach’s chances to prevail a lot. Probably have to buy his book.
