“We have not been comfortable with the current system.”

For some reason, I keep getting this image in my head of Jim Delany reading a copy of this, crumpling the paper up and neatly tossing it in the trash can.

I thought they were merging with CUSA to create the Conference West Mountain USA anyway? They can just start their own playoff.

Will they ever quit trying to get their hands on other people’s money? Stupid question. I know.

I’d like to hear an explanation of how Craig Thompson thinks he can find 16 teams that are capable of making an argument that they’re the best team in the country in any given year. That’s my litmus test for a playoff. Under his plan, you’re going to hear a bunch of whining from team #17 about how they’re better than team #16, but that isn’t even the point. The point is always “can you make a legitimate claim that you’re better than everyone else in this field”. If not, then you don’t need to be a part of a playoff.

  5. The mid majors will whine all the way to the bank. But I doubt if the major conferences will even listen to him. They may pretend but seriously.

I think the motive behind the Mountain West’s commissioner pushing this idea MAY come from the losses of BYU, Utah, TCU, and the Big East currently courting Boise. Cause I don’t really remember hearing anything from him before all the conference realignment nonsense. Maybe he should have made the push for it when his conference was in better shape.

Boise joining the Big East would be just crazy. What about all the other sports? The travel would be prohibitive for one thing, not only for football. The Big East is probably the weakest of the Big Six conferences. With all the defections who can say that the Big East is even going to keep its slot in the BCS? Last season the UConn inclusion in a BCS Bowl was ridiculous. Sit tight Boise. The Big East needs you waaaay more than you need them.

  7. Great idea to have 16 teams. That way we can end up with a team that is 8-4 regular season win it all because they earned it in a playoff. WOOHOO!!!
