With the news that it will cost Auburn somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 million – in easy monthly installments – to buy out the contracts of its existing coaching staff when they’re canned (h/t Jerry Hinnen), I can’t help but harken back to more innocent times.
True, they have a national title to show for it, but that’s gotta go down as one of the most expensive MNCs ever.
You know what the saddest thing is? Auburn will have gotten a helluva lot better ROI than the Vols will ever see.
Chizik’s contract has some termination for cause language in it. Wonder how that’s defined? Betcha Auburn has people following him everywhere with video cameras and microphones. Betcha Ole Gene is bahaving like a monk; not one beer.

SOD, too. Watch out boys. If you’ve got something going on the side, you’d better swear off it ASAP.

I heard Nick Saban say when he first came to Alabama. “I don’t have an alcoholic beverage in public around here, cause people will say I am alcoholic.” Now Chiz, I hear is a saint or at least he was.

Gotta fleece a lot of people at Victoryland to pay that kind of buyout.

$10 million is a small price to pay for a national title.
How much have we paid in salaries since 1980?

I’m sort of curious: what is too big a price to pay for a national title? 😉

Your integrity. (Of course there is no National Title, but your integrity would be too much for an SEC title too….and that is the best you can earn.) The stench surrounding Auburn will last beyond my years. just like Miami’s has.

I dunno. How much money have we spent since 1980 to NOT have one?
What program wouldn’t spend $10 million to win a title?
The top 30 or so programs spend more than that to NOT win.

Auburn won’t be spending $10 million to win a title. It’ll be spending that to rid itself of a staff that couldn’t win a conference game this year.

Well, $10 million here, and $10 million there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.

What are you talking about?
The question was whether $10 million is worth a title.
OF COURSE IT IS.
That isn’t even a question.
We’ve probably spent $200+ million since 1980 for no title. What’s another $10 million to actually SUCCEED at the entire purpose of running a top tier program?

Everyone has paid the salaries of coaches and administrators to a big dollar tune to only find out that more is required than money.
The better question might be “How much money are you willing to pay and yet not win the MNC?”.

Derek Dooley is a DGD. Totally trashed UT’s program and gets to cash their checks to the tune of $102,000 a month until December of 2016.

It was all a part of the master plan! See Muschamp at UF for the next step.

Up next: Where does Kirby strike?

The (likely ill-informed) rumors on the radio this afternoon were that Kirby goes to Knoxville…and to save the Vols money, keeps Sal Sunseri, architect of the worst defense in UT history (likely) as DC.
Given that the OC and all the great offensive skill players will be gone, I am 100% in favor of that move.

Kirby sets UGA up to win the SECCG and to go to the MNC game. Good Dawgs, one and all.

+1. This Georgia Illuminati thing really is working great! SOD takes down UT. Muschamp leads FU fans on with early season wins then tanks the WLOCP not to mention last season’s loss in that game. We get BOTH Van Gorder and Willie in at Auburn and in just 1 year they completely wreck that program. Has Agent Smart gotten his instructions about how to ruin the Tide D for the SECCG yet? Now, if we can just get the right agents in at South Carolina and LSU…….

Tell Auburn I will make a contribution to the severance package for Trooper. Can’t wait to see his towel waving ass gone from the SEC. Of course, Arkansas might hire him, they have shown poor judgement before.

I wouldn’t doubt that Trooper’s payoff/buyout was going to artifically high since he knows where all the bodies/money is buried. It would not suprise me if he was retained to save the recruiting class.

I heard his buyout was somewhere in the neighborhood of $180,000….no wait, wrong story

(I guess this sort of fits here) I heard that Auburn actually rolled the trees in Toomer’s Corner Saturday night because of the Bama loss. Does anyone know if this is factual?

Didn’t both Tubs and Baby Bowden get packages worth more than the contractually required amounts? And didn’t both sign non-disclosures? Not that those two things were necessarily related or anything like that.
BTW, Senator, are we now officially rooting for Kiffin?

“…are we now officially rooting for Kiffin?” You bet your sweet a$$!!! At least in the ND-USC game. If USC makes it to the PAC 12 Championship game I’ll be pulling for the Trojans, too. BTW, I watched the Oregon-USC game the other day. The Duck got out to a 21 point lead at least in part because of bad calls by the refs, then basically traded scores with Oregon the rest of the game. Neither team’s D could really stop the other team’s O. If the Trojans can get off to a good start USC just might beat the Ducks next time.
