When marketing strategies go bad…

Tell me you didn’t see this coming from a mile away.

The one thing that Bellamy said could keep him from signing with Georgia is the uncertainty he feels about how long defensive coordinator Todd Grantham will remain in Athens. Bellamy said other schools have used Grantham being connected in reports to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator opening to put questions in his mind.

“The thing is right now I don’t want to sign somewhere and then have the coach bounce after signing day,” Bellamy said.

Bonus chutzpah points to be awarded to Kirby Smart if he was among those using that pitch.

Grantham could have put those rumors to bed publicly but he didn’t.

Most definitely. I was originally in the camp of ‘why dignify a rumor with a response’, but no longer. I think it is hurting us down the stretch…

      • I never understood UGA’s silence on this issue. I did not not see CTG’s reluctance to speak out on the matter as a positive situation for us. We’re getting what we asked for in this instance.

Cant believe Richt is in on the cover up. Grantham may yet prove to be a staggeringly good liar or there’s no story here. Its irritating that this continues to be an issue. Bellamy seems to be the only recruit talking about this. Have any other defensive recruits gone public with what they are being told? I haven’t heared any of them speak to it and they have as much riding on who their coach is as Bellamy.

  3. The 01/17/13 report says Grantham interviewed for the job. McGarity said that night that Grantham had not contacted him about interest from/in Philly as he is contractually obligated to do. So… maybe take it all with a grain of salt? Maybe “interviewed” was more like a phone call that went something like “You interested?” “[In taking a pay cut to run my defense ragged with your offense on-and-off the field in a flash?] No. [But, if it gets me a pay raise, you can let your media friends know we talked.]”

Stranger things have happened, but I doubt Grantham is leaving for this opportunity.

my understanding is that he got the hard sell In Eugene. I think that they want him pretty badly out there. I am sure they were putting the fan to the CTG to Eagles flames when you look at who used to coach where.

CTG to Eagles still has legs. He’s only required to notify UGA once financial discussions with another job offer come into play. The fact the eagles have been silent as well makes me nervous. He may just be waiting to open up dialogue until after NSD. I hope not

…if you also remember CTG had a “private” conversation with Bellamy over a week ago in regard to those rumors… he was told not to discuss. For Bellamy to still have doubts is not good.

We get MSU’s co-dc and CTG basically says nothing. Smoke meet fire.

I have a hard time believing CMR would be a party to any form of deceptive recruiting, which the ‘CTG to Philly’ story infers. Bellamy isn’t rated much better or worse than any of our other 30 commits, so I don’t believe we’d lie to get him.

people…look where he just visited. Oregon. Who used to coach there and is now at the Eagles. Chip Kelly…i can’t imagine Oregon telling a recruit that they know that Chip and Todd are working on a deal, but I do know that Oregon wants this kid bad.

Ok, DP, spit it out. Are you saying Grantham to Oregon? I’m stupid, yes. What sources are you citing? I dont have pay services for recruiting and haven’t heard anywhere that Oregon is persuing Grantham. If he’s going, why wouldn’t he report it and publicly take Bellamy and whoever?

He’s suggesting that Oregon is telling Bellamy that Grantham is gone and that Oregon knows this because of its connections to Kelly.

          ding ding ding.

Listening to people in Eugene this would be a big get for them. They want this guy. Pulling a DL out of the south would be huge for them.

Or that Oregon is saying that even though they know it is not true to get him. Once it does not happen they can claim the negotiations just fell apart because once he sends his LOI he is committed.

Like clockwork, the AJC recruiting day UGA hit piece is out…

    http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/uga-sports/2013/feb/05/reports-ugas-todd-grantham-interview-saints/

And as usual, it is pure B.S.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8919487/new-orleans-saints-plan-hire-rob-ryan-defensive-coordinator-according-sources

But they will sell a lot of papers on the made-up story, get a lot of online hits, and maybe swing a recruit who doesn’t do his homework.

Yellow journalism. It’s what they do best.
