Coming soon, to an ESPN outlet near you…

Ah, jeez.

Finebaum, the polarizing personality of college football’s signature call-in show, is leaving the Birmingham, Ala., market where his contract expired in January, for Charlotte, N.C., and a national forum: ESPN. His multi-tiered platform will include a radio program on ESPN networks, 100 televised appearances annually on ESPN and a TV simulcast of his radio show on the ESPN-owned SEC Network launching in August 2014.

It was inevitable, I suppose.  What sucks is that now I’ll be stuck paying for him to be on the air.

If I run into that toolbar at Mac’s barbecue, I’m dumping that shitty North Carolina vinegar sauce on his head and figure it was self defense, if anyone asks.

There are good NC BBQ sauces, that vinegar stuff is not. White vinegar with some red pepper flakes is not a sauce.

Excellent suggestion. Macs is pretty great all the way and they’re franchising and expanding, so maybe they’ll make it down to Georgia sooner or later. Great beers, and all kinds of barbecue.

Sorry, I don’t get it. Just pour vinegar on your ‘cue if you like vinegar. Macs has a red sauce as well that’s great. Im not knocking Mac’s… Just the eastern North Carolina style of sauce. But people love it here and I just don’t get it, no offense Hogbody.

I partaken of Stamey’s in Greensboro & Lexington, Georgia Pig at I-95, Henry’s in Greenville SC, Dusty’s (deceased) on Briarcliff, that place down Capitol Ave., and a few others. Definite differences but all good.

Funny, I love BBQ like few others but I lived in NC for 22 years and never ate BBQ after the first 3-4 tries. Guess if I was born there I wouldn’t no better but, as a state, NC is the worst BBQ in the South.

Senator, we may have to pay a few pennies for him to be on their payroll but there are plenty of other TV options to watch at any time of the time. He completely blocked CFB from 3-7 on Satellite radio every day. I will gladly pay to open up that time slot to any alternative they come up with for those 4 hours.

Accident of birth I guess, one thing I have learned is BBQ is purely a local preference. There is no right or wrong, except for each person individually. I thought they should have sued folks in NC for calling that BBQ and giving it a bad name but as I traveled the country I found each region has their own opinion/preference and each is as good as the other (to that individual.) I loved my time in NC but chose to wait until I left the area for my Q.

At least ‘barbecue’ still means some kind of pork with sauce in North Carolina, and not a verb describing how you prepare burgers and hot dogs, like up north.

Amen. Even “bad” barbeque has to becooked for several hours, and even Yankees and Californians should know better than to cook steaks, burgers, and dawgs for more than 4 hours. Very curious folk.

I don’t see the Finebaum formula working on ESPN radio. No other ESPN shows are caller driven. They are cookie cutter politically correct boredom. I can’t see Finebaum going for that ESPN formula, plus he typically adds nothing.if callers ask him questions. He just goes to the next caller. I also can’t see him on a national network crapping on Richt or Miles. A more objective Finebaum will lead to a more boring Finebaum. I just don’t see it working.

Good point. How much lower can you go? If Washington DC is Hollywood for ugly people, I guess Finebaum is Craig James for homely obsessive college football fans.

Talk about targeting a specific demographic. Shiftless obsessive rednecks buy cars and beer, too, I guess. I can just see the marketing weasels in Bristol breaking down Finebaum’s audience for the advertisers: “See, his average listener is like the crazy tree killer, only out of jail.” I expect Ford trucks and Miller ads to be very handsomely priced on the ESPN Finebaum Show.

Win win deal, unless you’re one of those people with a three digit IQ and a sense of shame.

I don’t understand any of this. The first time I heard this guy was an accident while channel surfing. I called a friend and, I kid you not, said, “you have to turn on channel…., somebody is doing some sort of parody making fun of redneck Alabama fans, it’s hysterical.” My friend then informed me that it was a real show and those were real callers. It’s like trying to understand the audience that would be impressed by the recent twitter stylings of Brent Pease or the GT coaching staff.

He is being hired to set the South back 100 years. ESPN couldn’t dig up Lester Maddox so they hired this guy to troll for rednecks. I hope this is not an indication of the quality of programing the WWL is going to give us on the SECC.
