What the article does not explain, though, is that this is something they do every year. I remember when I was in school, they did this around town about 4 times per academic year.

  4. Gotta bring in revenue to justify their existence. It is slim pickins in the summer there. Would like to see the fines total during the academic year.

  5. FYI

That is a pretty good scoop for the Red & Black. ACC and the State Patrol will be doing he same thing – what a little birdy told me. Everybody gets to feel that little extra measure of safety tonight 10:30 – 12:00.

Its only going to get worse. So many businesses are leaving Athens-Clarke to set up shop in Oconee that the only revenue left will be generated by the ACPD Fighting Barney Fifes.

Could this be one of the reasons why the businesses are leaving? Good police protection is one thing. Hassling innocent citizens is quite another. I have to believe this type of police activity negatively affects dining and nightclub/entertainment business in a big way.

I tried to send a positive message to UGA and Athens Police–letting them know they are being seen in a bad light that is damaging–I was prepared to be really positive and understanding—and maybe helpful–the fact that I could not get thru is really disappointing

Interesting that CMR called an early morning, full pads practice, followed by picture day, on the morning after these roadblocks.

If the boys were having too much fun last night, I suspect they weren’t having much fun this morning.
