Spring practice is over, but it sounds like Jeremy Pruitt will manage to stay busy.
Defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt played a large role in the commitments already on board for Georgia in the 2015 class. Pruitt said his recruiting area will be Northeast Georgia and the Florida Panhandle through Jacksonville. He will also see as many defensive recruits that he can.
Turfwise, he’s duking it out with the Carolina schools and FSU. Should be fun to watch.

Speaking of recruiting, one of the common reasons cited for our chronic OL issues is that the state of GA tends to not produce elite OL talent, especially tackles. Frustrating then that the year we actually have 2 in-state 5 star tackles, we can’t land either one.
Not saying that as a direct criticism of Friend, it’s just frustrating. Hyatt was always going to Clemson no matter what anybody did, but sure would have been nice to land Edoga.
I know you don’t get caught up in recruiting, Senator, and of course we’re still in it until the kid signs, but he sounded pretty set last night.

Did you read Edoga’s comments? He wanted to go to a school with engineering, which UGA doesn’t have. We’re lucky he didn’t end up somewhere else around here where we would be competing with him.

No elite tackle is going to Tech. Also if you have serious academic ambitions you take the Stanford offer. That’s the one thing Tech folks don’t get, they’re a great engineering school but they are not and never will be an elite university.

Plus Stanford’s recent track record with Olinemen is pretty good, and certainly blows the NATS’ “just fall down, but aim for their shins” approach out of the water.

No I didn’t see where he said that. But again, I wasn’t saying it as a criticism of anyone, just a point of frustration that when we actually get a couple of 5 star tackles in our backyard, which never happens, we can’t land either of them. Regardless of the reasons, it’s still a bummer.

I think he said aeronautical engineering. Probably choices like that at Auburn and Bama. Maybe he will get “hurt” like Jarvis and come back home to UGA when he realizes he is not going to be an astronaut.

uT, Texas A&M, and Florida too. Ga Tech’s PhD program competes with MIT. I think I read where he wants into something other than outer space design (astronautical engineering). He would be a big ass astronaut. Air Force and Naval Academy have some serious undergrad programs in the field. I have a nephew in that field and a bro in law that graduated from Tech’s EE program. We don’t talk sports. 😉

UGA has a college of engineering since 2010(?). As an aside, I’m an engineering graduate from UGA and have enjoyed a 30+ year career in the space program. Numerous UGA engineers at Warner Robins ALC and with Georgia Power. Engineering is available if the kid wants it.

Don’t give up on the kid until he signs the dotted line Rev. A very reputable UGA blogger has been saying for a long time that Edoga would commit elsewhere last night, but eventually sign with the DAWGS. He does not miss many predictions and I have been reading him for several years now.

Seems like a pretty far-flung territory to me. And is NEGA really seen as a hotbed of football talent? I’m a “ridge runner” from those parts myself and, yes, we’ve had a few over the years — the Swillings come most readily to mind — but it just doesn’t seem like the hilly parts of the state are as fertile as the flatlands when it comes to football talent.

are you speaking of the Swilling boys that went to Furman? Talented? Yes. SOCON dominants at Furman. Being a ridge runner myself, I concur that there is some talent to be found here amongst the Blue Ridge, but not like in the ATL and south, you can throw a cat and hit a blue chip 5*.

“He will also see as many defensive recruits that he can.” Wow. Great to see the ABH is keeping up with the AJC in doing a great job of writing and editing these days. And yes, OL recruiting has been a weakness. I actually think OL play has been surprisingly good in the last few years consideriing the lack of depth and blue chip recruits (not that I put much stock in 5 star ratings).

Pruitt is in charge of the same area Todd was in charge of. Even though Stephens has fell off as of late, Elbert, Wilkes, and Lincoln re also in his area. There is some talent in these spots for the 2016 class.

Oh. Well, I’ve never thought of Wilkes and Lincoln counties as Northeast Georgia — I generally think of it as Stephens County (my birthplace) and northwards — but if that’s how they’re defining it, it changes the picture significantly.
Lord, I wish we could have gotten Tauren Poole. Hell, I wish we’d have just GONE AFTER Tauren Poole. He was a great and talented kid whose talents got squandered at UT.

The DAWGS are recruiting Mecole Hardeman rising junior @ Elbert. Pruitt is the one recruiting him. He has several SEC offers already, and expects to get more. Tauren Poole would have been great for the DAWGS he was a special kid watched him play all four years at Stephens.
Elbert has a few coming through that will be D1, and Lincoln always has a few.

Not sure how much CJP can do about OL recruiting, but we need all the help we can get with DL recruiting. Drew a few years ago, and Carter this year, are about the only top DLs from GA that we’ve landed in a long time. Missed on Russell and Williams this year; Lawson, Adams and Nkemdiche the year before; Tuitt, Whitaker, and others recently too. Considering Garner was our DL coach, he did a pretty lousy job of landing GA DLs for several years.
